RCGSC ON NOURISHMENT Effective management of food intake and nutrition is the key to good health. Understanding good nutrition and paying attention to what you eat can help you prevent or improve your health. Food and nutrition are the way we get fuel, from which our bodies get energy. We need to replace the nutrients in our bodies with a new supply every day. Water is an important component of nutrition. Fats, proteins and carbohydrates are all essential. Maintaining key vitamins and minerals is also important for maintaining good health. A healthy diet helps protect against all forms of malnutrition as well as non-communicable diseases including diabetes, heart disease, stroke and cancer. A large portion of a healthy diet should consist of fruits and vegetables, especially those that are red, orange or dark green in color. Whole grains, such as whole wheat and brown rice, should also be included in your diet.Unhealthy diet and lack of physical activity are causing global health risks.Good nutrition also includes avoiding certain types of foods. Sodium is overused in processed foods and is dangerous for people with high blood pressure. Trans fats found in fried foods, solid fats and margarine and processed foods can be harmful to heart health. Refined grains and refined sugar are also bad for long-term health, especially in people with diabetes.
RACVC ON NOURISHMENT Health is one of the greatest assets that one could ever own. An adequate well- balanced diet is vital for the overall development of an individual. The downfall in the nutritional pyramid has been evident from the pre-pandemic period as well. We have to prioritise addressing malnutrition for holistic nourishment. A proper awareness among people enable them to combat undernutrition, improve the immune system, and reduce the burden on non-communicable diseases. Nourishment is not just limited to subjective in nature. We can apply it in real life by paying attention to the moment or by utilizing every opportunity that we come across. Suppose when a bowl is broken it’s put back together with the cracks being filled with gold creating a beautiful lining. This is to emphasize the beauty in what was once broken, we believe that something has suffered damage and has a history, which makes it more beautiful and the same goes for human beings. Everything that you have been through and everything that you are going through doesn’t make your life uglier, although it may seem that way when we are going through it. We are not broken beyond repair, we can pick ourselves up and learn from what’s happened and become a better person from it because of the struggle that you have been through, you can wear your scars proudly as a badge of honour as if to say, look of what I have been through made me what I am today and I can get through anything now.
