Section A Matunga – India’s first All Women Station
About Matunga in Brief In July 2017 in a bid to empower women, Central Railway appointed all women staff at Matunga station making it the first station in the country to be run entirely by women personnel. This unique feature helped Matunga station find a coveted place in the “Limca Book of Records”
Graced by Hon’ble Railway Minister The Station was dignified by the presence of Hon’ble Railway Minister Shri Piyush Goyal ji on several occasions. Late Smt .Chandrakanta Goyal ji, mother of Hon’ble Railway Minister was also fond of Matunga Station and blessed the station staff with her graceful presence and kind words.
Enhanced Amenities For Staff The station has been provided with enhanced amenities like Staff Restroom, Sanitary Napkin Vending & Incinerators for the convenience of staff .
Enhanced Amenities For Passengers The station is provided with amenities like Escalators, RO Water Purifier. Signages, Seating Benches, Fans and Air circulators for the convenience of passengers.
Station Beautification Initiatives Station Manager Smt Meena Santi, and her team have put in good efforts for Station Beautification through initiatives like the eye catching “Buddha Painting” & development and maintenance of serene “Green Garden”.
Tribute to Corona Warriors Salaam Rakshak – Gratitude art for Covid warriors, is an ambitious initiative chalked by Project Mumbai. The team of artists have depicted on walls the efforts made by Railways for the public at the time of Covid-19 pandemic. The artwork has been carried out at 19 stations in CSMT – Thane section including Matunga. This is the Largest Gratitude Art done in India to honour the corona warriors of society including Railways.
New Aesthetics Station aesthetics of Matunga is further improved by beautifying “Station Facade” and providing illuminated “I Love Matunga” signage on 26th January 2021.
Upcoming Projects Several new and innovative projects are underway to further improve station aesthetics and provide better amenities for passengers and staff. The Lions Club of Mandvi East, Mumbai has initiated projects ,viz. Pink Toilet, Nirbhaya Room, Selfie Point etc which are underway presently.
Section B Stalwarts Of Mumbai Division !!
Smt. Mumtaz M Kazi (Diesel Driver) First woman in Asia to drive a diesel engine train. Made her way to Limca Book of World Records in 1995 as the first lady Diesel locomotive driver. Received 'Nari Shakti' award in 2016 from President Dr. Pranab Mukherjee for her commitment and servive to Indian Railways
Smt. Rekha Mishra (RPF Sub-Inspector) Credited with rescuing 953 destitute, missing, kidnapped or runaway children. Received “Nari Shakti Puraskar” from the Hon’ble President on 08.03.2018.
Smt. Surekha Yadav (Loco Pilot) Became First Ladies passenger train driver in 1988. Asia’s First lady train driver to run the Deccan Queen from Pune to CSMT, in 2011. Awarded prestigious First Ladies Award at the Rashtrapati Bhavan in 2018.
Smt. Shweta Ghone (Guard) First Lady Guard of Central Railway. Part of all women crew to man Train no 12534 “Pushpak Express” on 8th March 2020
Sports Stars Hockey Players : Ms. Ayolika Paul (Shooter) Ms. Rajni Ms. Monica Ms. Sushila C. Ms. Vandana Kataria In Sports too, Sportswomen from Mumbai Division have been at the forefront in bringing glory and laurels to the Division and Indian Railways. Our sportswomen are representing Indian Railways in various sporting events, viz Hockey, Shooting etc in India and around the globe.
Section C Women Centric Facilities
Facilities at stations Separate waiting room for women passengers at CSMT, Dadar , Lokmanya Tilak Terminus, Kalyan, Panvel, Lonavla and Igatpuri stations Provision of Baby feeding room in waiting rooms. Provision of Nirbhaya Room at Mulund Station. Separate ladies toilet provided at all suburban stations.
Facilities on trains Four Ladies Special trains (02 services on Main Line and 02 services on Harbour Line) Three coaches earmarked for lady passengers in 21 trains (11Up and 10Dn trains) Ladies coaches escorted by GRP from 21.00hrs to 06.00hrs.
Facilities on Trains Provision of CCTV in Ladies Compartments of 35 Rakes. Talkback system commissioned in two rakes. Same Proposed to be provided in other rakes in phasewise manner.
Section D Leading from the Front
Tejaswini – Ticket Checking Batch All Women Ticket Checking squad - “Tejaswini” comprising of 40 TCs in 5 batches Dedicated to check in Ladies Coaches of suburban trains Render assistance to passengers , especially lady commuters. Redressal of grievance of passengers at local level .
“Meri Saheli” – RPF Squad There are 2 teams comprising 3 RPF in each batch. To provide safety and security to women passengers during journey. The team counsels and updates women commuters about the use of RPF Helpline number 182 & GRP Helpline number 1512 Also counsels about precautions to be taken for safety and security during journey
“Smart Saheli” – 24/7 WhatsApp Group To provide holistic security net to build confidence among women commuters. Created WhatsApp groups which will be active 24/7 Observe matters affecting women security, suggest ways and means to improve security. Propagate the facility of 182 RPF helpline amongst the commuters Faster redressal mechanism to the grievances of women commuters.
