ADRIANA GRAUER The Grauer Design Group 3452 West Flamingo Blvd., Las Vegas, NV 89120 702-788-3255 grauerdesigngroup.com “Make something beautiful. Everybody, every client, has a dif- ferent idea of what beauty is, and we as designers are charged with the task of making that imagined beauty come to life, Each job is a unique and refreshing new challenge.” THE PERFECT FIT Word of mouth is how one couple from Venezuela found their imaginative designer, Adriana Grauer. She, also Venezuelan, was entrusted to use her architectural train- ing to mint a “Modern Scan” interior for the family of six. “They wanted to have a house where they can grow as they welcome grandkids,” Grauer says. Upon entry, this new 4,000-square-foot home in- trigues with open-concept living spaces that over- look the Intracoastal Waterway in Hallandale Beach, Fla. With her architectural background, Grauer integrated structural concepts into the design by using the same materials inside as out. She treated elements like main characters, and furnishings and fixtures like fine art. The designer sees space in volumes. “You don’t see flat. You see light, you see contrast,” she says. “You walk through this house and feel the spaces are all connected.” n Right: “The idea was to keep it simple, but each space with its own detail … to have furniture that is flexible,” Grauer says. 8 URBAN DESIGN I LAS VEGAS

Left: They wanted cozy, but at the same time, modern and timeless,” Grauer says. “We were given carte blanche and that rarely happens.” With her architectural background, Grauer integrated structural concepts into the design by using the same materials inside as out. Right: The buffet’s wood slats inspired other furnishings, too, like the foyer’s rose-gold mir- ror above a stainless steel and glass console. In contrast, the designer purposely broke rigid lines with playful lighting fixtures. URBAN DESIGN I LAS VEGAS 11
JENNY PROVOST Provost Design Group Las Vegas, NV 702-498-1520 provostdesigngroup.com “Designing is dreaming. To be invited in to design ones most- personal space is truly an honor. I feel proveleged to be able to create beautuful spaces where one can live and feel happy in their surroundings.” NEW MODERN Interior designer Jenny Provost’s introduction to her client — a businessman, who moved here from South Africa and became a major success — was a “short” conversation that lasted for a few hours. He had seen her work and visited her office where they met for the first time. “I felt like I was conversing with a colleague,” Provost says. “He may not have had the lingo and su- perlatives we use, but he could tell me what he wanted.” Provost soon realized that her client was not only a risk taker in business, but also in design. And that was some- thing she relished. The result of their relationship is this 7,000-square-foot Cape Coral home the designer de- scribes as “imaginative modern.” It started with the homeowner, a devoted family man with a young son, liking the cool sleek interiors he’d seen in Miami. But as Provost got to know him, she felt they needed something warmer in addition to lots of social spaces to entertain both clients and family.” n Right: The hospitality begins with the exterior. Guests feel wel- come even before reaching the pivoting glass front door, as the house itself seems to reach out and beckon family and friends to enter. 12 URBAN DESIGN I LAS VEGAS

Left: At day’s end, the master suite with a panoramic second-floor balcony ex- udes relaxation inspired by the soft lux- urious hush of the finest hotel rooms the couple has enjoyed while traveling. Al- though few homeowners still want wall- to-wall carpeting, these insisted on it. And while Provost likes a good test of her skills, she found the master bath to be a particular puzzle. To create extra storage space, she tucked touch-latch cabinets behind the wenge wood wall. 14 URBAN DESIGN I LAS VEGAS
Left: At the other end of this great room is the kitchen and bar area. Here, curved surfaces help moderate the crisp coolness of modern design. “If everything is angular, it can be jar- ring, so I started using circles to calm it down. We had a lot of fun with that,” she says. That’s obvious in the aquarium with its round portal, and the conical shapes that base the end of the island table and indoor bar. Right: The outdoors reaches out to the horizon when seen through a wall of sliding glass doors that open to the ele- ments with the touch of a switch. Sleek, custom-fit furnishings complete the space without interrupting the grand waterscape. URBAN DESIGN I LAS VEGAS 15

LESLIE SHERMAN Leslie Sherman Designs 3475 S Eastern Ave. Las Vegas, NV 89119 702-569-3664 shermandesigngroup.com “Less is more, color is life is the mantra that inspires all my designs.” PUSHING THE ENVELOPE Developers, architects and designers hoping to create a client’s dream home don’t always strike a unique note — sometimes fresh inspiration is missing. But with a keen eye for client inclinations and a forward thinking, “let’s create something new” attitude, the team of interior designers Leslie Sherman, interior designers Randi Scott and Tatum Johansson, architect John Cooney and builder Matt Knauf have melded their considerable talents to get it “just right” in the 12 high- end home projects they’ve created together. In their most recent waterfront project, a 5,400-square- foot, Award-winning model home on secluded Lake Las Vegas Cooney worked his magic to design a thoughtful, inspired and unique home. With a completely open con- cept floor plan, floor-to-ceiling glass walls, and ceiling heights ranging from 12 to 22 feet, the impact is striking. “Leslie and I wanted to push the envelope with this one, with a fresh, slightly edgy transitional coastal style,“ the architect says. n Left: Scott and Johansson worked with Sherman to define and create the home’s interior style. Starting with a fresh, soft, con- temporary vibe, the team chose a striking neutral and navy blue palette for maximum impact in the main living areas. URBAN DESIGN I LAS VEGAS 17
Above: “Design details and quality craftsmanship set this team apart,” he says. “We collaborate throughout the entire construction process to define unique features and select quality finishes.” One example of this is the box beam tongue- and-groove ceiling details that flow seamlessly from one room to the next. Scott and Johansson worked with Sherman to define and create the home’s interior style. Starting with a fresh, soft, contemporary vibe, the team chose a striking neutral and navy blue palette for maximum impact in the main living areas. “Our goal is to create a stunning home from every perspective,“ Sherman says. “Each home we build is custom, a work of art.” The interior furnishings in this home are in- tentionally dramatic. “The compelling architectural design and impeccable construction would inspire nothing less,“ Scott says. “We reinterpret key design elements and repeat, which provides a cohesive and well thought out finished product.” 18 URBAN DESIGN I LAS VEGAS

MARY GRANDE CONTEMPORARY PAINTED ARRANGEMENTS ARE METAPHORS FOR things in nature, both physical and spirtual. Elements and relationships come into being, evolve and phase out or transfor, just as in life. Like my painting, the process is fluid and organic, focusing on the evocative and poetic rather than the descriptive. Beginning with a feeling about or recollection of an experience, ongoing preoccupations and at times raw emotions, I began with auto- matic drawing - a series of gestural, linear movements that come from my interior - then move into shapes, movement and color to create a sense of harmony. 702-778-9098 • marygrandeart.com 28 URBAN DESIGN I LAS VEGAS

DESIGN + STYLE Up and Coming Trends F rom fashion to design, color, and more, it seems like trends come in and out of style before we get a chance to enjoy them. Interior de- sign trends in 2020 and beyond will center around wellbeing, comfort, and sustainability. January 1st has come and gone, but there’s still plenty of time to indulge in new looks. To help you make sense of some the best design crazes, we asked some of our favorite designers to share the top trends that are IN. 38 URBAN DESIGN I LAS VEGAS
