Literary Week Literature is a source of knowledge, entertainment and above all moral lessons that stimulate healthy growth. The theme for 2023-24 was ‘The Power of Literature.’ The event took place from 18th to 20th May. The English Department conducted a series of activities including special assembly where the students of class VIII presented the early works, contribution as well as advancements brought about by some of the most prolific literary icons in history. The characters portrayed were- William Shakespeare, Jane Austin, Sarojini Naidu and Rabindranath Tagore. Poetry recitation was held for students of class VI to VIII. All contestants recited their self-composed poems. To conclude the week, an Inter House Debate Competition was conducted for students of class IX to XII. It was a highly anticipated event. The topic of the debate competition was ‘Happiness is more important than Success.’ All participants were well prepared and presented their arguments with conviction and clarity. The judges were impressed with the performances and had a tough time selecting the winners. After much deliberation Nile House was announced as the winner of the competition followed by Euphrates, Tigris and Jordan House. To inculcate the habit of reading, the department also organized a book fair. It was a week of flurry and excitement, with the children being fruitfully engaged and getting exposure to literature in different ways. In an age when people are replacing the book with television, computer and smart phones, it was a delightful sight to witness students enthusiastically contributing to the literary week.
