Standing on the edge of what the future might hold, Greg was serendipitously met with the perfect opportunity. An elderly farmer was looking to find somebody with the desire and work ethic to restore Sullivan Creek Ranch to its natural beauty while continuing to raise cattle. This was just the opportunity Greg had been waiting for. He ultimately bought the property in June 2016, and his vision of creating a ranch-to-table experience has been unraveling ever since. Not only has Greg cultivated Sullivan Creek Ranch to uphold the greatest standards in beef, he has also fostered a sense of community that is not typically seen in the ranching industry. “I truly believe more people should see where their beef is raised, and shake the hands of the ranchers doing it”, Greg remarks. Once a year, he hosts a Steak and Sunset event where people can learn about Akaushi beef, enjoy a five star meal, and appreciate conversations with like minded people. This year’s event, which was held on Septem- ber 28th, was successfully sold out. Greg also hosts a spring branding. Next year will be the third annual event. Greg would like to continue his ranch-to-table vision with full transparency to customers as to how their food is raised and managed. He would also like to develop a trading post on the ranch to include oth- er producers in the area. Ideally, the trading post would be a “one stop shop” for residents of Cullman where people could find local products like honey, crafts, produce, and more. Greg would also like to host sea- sonal field day activities and Veteran’s outreach programs. The hope is that Sullivan Creek Ranch will grow into a fully functioning ranch that greets guests with open arms all week long. Greg lives under the philosophy that “a rising tide lifts all boats”. As he works to develop the agritourism industry on his ranch, the hope is that other farms will follow suit. Steve Leslie Concert At Terri Pines Country Club By Charles Hollis It was just a word of mouth thing. Telling friends and family and a little social media help from friends and family. Next thing you know a Steve Leslie concert broke out at Cullman’s Terri Pines. And that word of mouth thing? A crowd of about 80 music fans turned out Saturday, Nov. 2, to listen to the Grammy winning songwriter perform his James Taylor Tribute, which started two years ago in clubs in Nashville. For almost two hours the crowd, many of whom had never heard of Leslie, who has written songs for artists such as Kenny Rogers, George Strait, Dari- us Rucker and Ricky Skaggs, heard Taylor classics “You’ve Got a Friend,” “Fire and Rain,” Up On The Roof,” and Carolina In My Mind.” Those who came may not have known Leslie when they arrived, but after listening to his smooth baritone voice and watching him handle the acoustic guitar, they left with an appreciation for his talent. And, of course, his performance of Taylor’s iconic songs.
