SOUVENIR BOOK OF THE FEU-NRMF COLLEGE OF MEDICINE CLASS OF 1973 Foreword January 2023 will be the 50th year celebra on of FEU-NRMF College of Medicine, Class of 1973 as the Golden Jubilarians. This piece of memento was painstakingly compiled and prepared, albeit in an amateur manner, but nevertheless captures the precious and treasured moments in the lives of these medical doctors, encompassing their student days up to the present me. Fate has it that this batch of physicians lived and made their mark in different countries, being involved in various fields of prac ce, yet thriving in such disparate and challenging environment. Contributors of facts and informa on can only gather this much for our souvenir program. Our only wish is that we all enjoy reminiscing our cherished moments, have a hearty laugh, and therea er remain to enjoy each day of our earthly life. This commemora ve composi on would not have been possible without the inherent crea vity and labor of love by the following: 1. Dr. Remedios A. Magkasi, our former Pathology professor. The batch is eternally grateful for impar ng her beau ful and crea ve mind, doing this task unselfishly and relessly leading to the comple on of the ar s c page lay-out clearly evident in our souvenir book. 2. SURIO, MD ~ 05 President, FEU-NFMF, College of Medicine Class of 1973 NEW Curriculum Turning back the hands of me, the even ul year of 1973 cap vates most my musings. That very same year, more than four hundred students of the FEU-NRMF College of Medicine graduated. A ending the commencement ceremony, finally brought forth the realiza on of lifelong dreams, along with acknowledgment of being a full-fledged physician. Stamped firmly at the end of each of their names is the much-coveted acronym “MD”. Fast forward to the present and five decades later, the same batch of “73 where all of us belong to, truly marks a significant milestone. It is our Golden Jubilee Celebra on which is appropriately themed “Racing to our 50th Year and Beyond”. The Ins tute of Medicine, In fact, was an idea conceived as early as the incorpora on of Far Eastern University in 1934. Dr. Nicanor Reyes, Sr., founder and first president of FEU, dreamt of an Ins tute of Medicine in line with his vision of building up FEU, already a pioneer in progressive non-sectarian educa on, into a school dedicated to help in na on-building in as many areas of service as possible. The member of the medical community became the Ins tute's first administra on with Dr. Lauro H. Panganiban as Dean; Dr. Aureo F. Gu errez, Director of the Far Eastern University Medical Clinic; and Dr. Ricardo L. Alfonso, Director of FEU Hospital. To formulate policies and The FEU Chapel to supervise the opera on of the hospital, the above- men oned administrators were joined by Teodoro Evangelista, President of the Far Eastern University; Nicanor Reyes, Jr., Execu ve Vice President; Don Angel Palanca and Hector del Rosario as members. Each ins tute of FEU was required by then President Teodoro T. Evangelista to have its own vision, mission, and values aligned with that of the university. It was then changed in 1971 when the FEU Ins tute of Medicine, FEU Hospital, and School of Medical Technology were incorporated under one non-stock, nonprofit corpora on known as F.E.U. – Dr. Nicanor Reyes Medical Founda on, Inc. ~ Sheltered Area in school grounds where students can stay and study.
