Meerkat hi res

A meerkat is not a cat. It is a mongoose.

Meerkat babies are called pups, but they are not dogs. When the pups are born their eyes and ears are not open.

Their mother will give them milk when they are little.

Meerkat pups have baby-sitters to look after them when their mother goes out of the burrow to get food.

She could bring them back a spider, or a snake, or a snail, or a scorpion.

When the meerkat pups are bigger, they will go out into the sun to play.

There will be some meerkat guards to look after them. If there is danger, the guards will bark.

Then all the meerkats will run into the burrow to be safe.
