As patriotic, Christian Americans with a burden especially for military veterans, the Mercy Mountain Boys founded “Operation Rucksack” last year. As an extension of their ministry, this charitable, non-profit organization provides backpacks filled with much needed personal items to homeless male and female veterans of our nation. Earl Green outreach of “Operation Rucksack” is making a huge, positive impact on a people Mitch Sands who seem to have been largely neglected and forgotten - our brave, selfless,Donny Weatherford military veterans. Mitch Rogers Speaking of charity, the Mercy Mountain Boys unanimously agree that it appears the body of Christ, as a whole, has forgotten its real mission in building the Kingdom of God. “The church has been so preoccupied with arguing over issues like who has the right doctrine, sings the right style of music, and wears the right clothes - looking down its nose at those who are not ‘like us.’ So-called religion has created a great chasm between those who are supposed to be brothers and sisters in the family of God. We complain about how there is too much government in our lives, but if the church did as we were commanded to do according to Malachi 3:10 (Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house...), we could eliminate many entitlement programs. And, in caring for the needy, we prove the love of God by our obedience.” Since going full-time in 2007, the guys have traveled thousands of miles across the country and have experienced both the joys and challenges of a touring ministry. Earl says they’ve learned some valuable lessons along the way and have seen the faithfulness of God through it all. Recalling one memorable incident, he shares, “I was driving at the time and we had been on the road for a few hours between Mississippi and Texas when I decided to make an unplanned stop. We always do a safety walk around the bus each time we stop, and as I was making my routine inspection I noticed we were missing five lug nuts on the drive axle. I immediately yelled for Donny to come around and take a look - he couldn’t believe the wheel was still on the bus!” He continues, “I drove very slowly to the next exit where there was a truck stop - only to find out that the parts we needed were not available there. This was frustrating because we were still four hours away from our concert scheduled for that evening. After we all sat on the bus for a while discussing what to do next, Mitch decided to go inside the truck stop to make a phone call. A few minutes later he comes running back to the bus terribly excited and exclaims, ‘You’re not gonna believe this, boys!’ He explained that when he went inside to make his call a mechanic approached him and said he could fix our problem. The bus was repaired and we were back on the road within 45 minutes! Praise the Lord! What an awesome blessing!” The guys have been blessed with numerous awards and accolades throughout their careers, and the group has enjoyed radio success with their music. In recent years, the Mercy Mountain Boys have garnered four top five Country Gospel hits on the national charts - Drinking From The Well, Me Against It All, Soldier’s Letter, and Give The King A Call. Their current radio single entitled, Come On Back, is climbing the charts at a fast pace with virtually no promotion behind it. The group also produced a companion video to the current single and can be viewed on the group’s website and Facebook page. While the Mercy Mountain Boys are truly grateful for their accomplishments, it is evident that their mission goes far beyond accolades and charting songs. They strongly desire to fulfill Christ’s command to reach out to a lost and dying world with the same grace and mercy that has been extended to them by their Heavenly Father. www.mmbband.com www.facebook.com/MercyMountainBoysJerry Guy
