Babies spend a lot of time sleeping. Babies require around 9 to 12 hours of sleep every day during their first year of life, in addition to regular naps. The main issue is that they sleep in fits and starts, alternating between sleeping at night and napping during the day.

It takes 3-6 months for a baby's internal body clock, or circadian rhythm, to mature. They'll naturally desire to sleep more at night and be awake more during the day at this point. Sleep training may be the answer for sleepy parents who wish to encourage their children to spend more of their overnight sleep asleep consistently.
