How to export DVR footageTo export camera footage from your DVR you need access to either the DVR menu ora web browser. This guide will cover both methods.USING THE DVR MENUFirst ensure your DVR is plugged into a suitable monitor via either the HDMI orVGA ports on the back of the device, you should see a screen like the one below.A mouse will be required to operate the DVR directly. The USB port on the front isdesignated for this purposeand is not to be confused withthe USB port on the back ofthe DVR.To download footage directlyfrom the DVR you will need aUSB pen drive. The pen driveUSB port can be found on theback of the DVR under ‘videoout’Right click anywhere on the main screen and a list options will appear, select ‘Menu’There are two different ways in which you can select and export the footage yourequire. Which is preferable depends on the type of footage you wish to acquire. Onemethod is better for obtaining footage from multiple cameras or specific time blocks. DVR MENU - BROAD METHOD For the broader method, first select ‘Export’ from your menu screen.Below is the screen that will appear. Use this screen to select any cameras and searchparameters you wish to use. Start/end time and date is found on the bottom of thescreen. Set the relevant information and click search.The search results will appear in a screenlike this one. Tick the cameras you wishto use the footage from then hit Export Your USB pen drive should be automatically selected, if not then select it from the dropdown menu next to ‘Device name’.Create a new folder or select one already on your USB stick. Hit export again. This menu will then appear. ‘Video and log’ is the standard option however if you wish to download a media player file onto the USB stick at the same time then select ‘Player’2|Page |Mast Digital Guides|
Finally allow the DVR to complete the export process. Click ‘Ok’ to exit the screen. Your USB drive now contains the footage you selected. Success! DVR MENU - PRECISION METHOD For the precision method, first select ‘Playback’ from your menu screen.Now you will need to select the relevant cameras you wish to record Once cameras have been selected choose the date of the footage you wish to inspect. Cameras can be playing footage from different times/dates if you wish.similar to a media player. Your screen should now look like3|Page this. To obtain accurate footage you need to clip the original footage into smaller chunks.You can make as many clips as you like and they can be at any desired length. Theadvantage of this method is you can see the footage live whilst editing it.Start off by navigating to just before the desired start time and click play.When you want to beginrecording the video youneed to hit ‘StartClipping’ on the bottomleft part of the screen.The DVR is now recording the footage as you are watching it.There are various ways in which you can speed up the recording window, asdescribed below. Use this button to fast forward the recording. Click it multiple times to increase the forwarding speed Use this button to fast forward in 30 second intervals Use this button to skip forward to the start of the next dayFinally, when you want to stop the clip recording, hit the ‘Stop Clipping’ button. After you’ve created the required number of clips, right click the centre of the screento exit.An alert should appearnotifying you that thereare video clips to besaved, hit yes. On this screen, you will be able to view all of the clips you made earlier. Select the ones you want to use and hit ‘Export’. Alternatively, hit ‘Export All’ if you intend to use every clip.On the next screen, you need to select which device and folder you want to export to.Your USB pen drive should beautomatically selected, if notthen select it from thedropdown menu next to‘Device name’.Create a new folder like Ihave or select one already onyour USB stick. Hit exportagain. USING A WEB BROWSERFirst ensure your DVR is connected to your local network, you can check this usingthe SADP tool provided by Hikvision, shown below.After identifying your DVR on the list of local devices, note down its IPv4 address.Note: If you’re unsure which device is your DVR, you can check the device serialnumber against the one displayed in the SADP tool to confirm.Now double click on the IP address of the DVR in SADP to be automatically directedto the DVR login screen.Alternatively, you can enter the IPv4 address into a web browser manually.To do this, enter the IPv4 addressfollowed by ‘:HTTPPort#’For example, when attempting toaccess the DVR highlighted above,you would type ‘192.168.1.100:80’‘192.168.1.100’is the IPv4 addressof the DVR and ‘:80’ represents itsHTTP port number.*It’s worth noting at this point that you need to be using a supported web browser toview your camera feeds (chrome/edge not supported). You should now be redirected to the login screen of your DVR. Use this interface to search for and download your footage. Set the channel no, desired file type, start and end times then click search. This will bring up all clips relevant to your search parameters. First select the file then download the clips of your choosing directly onto your PC. WEB BROWSER - PRECISION METHODTo apply the precision method, you first need to set andassign the correct grids to your feed/feeds.To change the grid size, use the button on the bottom leftof the screen. Select the size of grid you require.After you’ve selected your desired grid type, you need toassign cameras to respective sections.To assign cameras to a grid positions you must first leftclick the grid to highlight it yellow, then select a camera by clicking the small camera icon to the left of the camera names. Once camera/cameras have been assigned, start date and time can be selected for eachcamera separately. Achieve this by selecting the date on the calendar found at the topright of the screen and navigating to required time using the media player tools.To begin recording be sure toset each feed to playindividually first.Once all feeds are playing youare ready to begin clipping thefootage.The clip will begin recording any feeds being viewed as soon as you hit ‘startclipping’. The computer will catch all footage displayed in the grids.There are various tools found on the viewer, some of these are listed below. Use this button to fast forward the recording. Click it multiple times to increase the forwarding speed Use this button to view the footage in slow motion. Use this button to view still frames and move through them one at a time (good for acquiring face shots)Once you’reready to finishclipping, simplyhit the red ‘StopClipping’ icon.A file containing the clipped footage will automatically be downloaded by your webbrowser when you stop clipping.
