The Impact of the Goods and the Services Tax on Foreign Trade were also explained on the basis of questions raised by Assistant Professor Dr. S. Usha. The session was an interactive one where the students posed many ques- tions and respected speaker clarified their doubts as and then it was raised. There was also a question raised on current issues - “When a calamity like that of COVID occurs whether the DGFT has any mechanism to curb imports from such coun- tries?”, to this Sri. VARUN MEHER SINGH, I.T.S. answered as follows; “Yes there is a Directorate General of Trade - Remedies that monitors and deals withsubsidiaries and counter measures during such calamities. Also, when notified by the DGFT about a certain event the DGTR issues a ban on the imports of certain product lines from the countries which impact the situation”. He also pointed out the important role of the Government in offering relaxations to traders while being strict in regulating the import of certain electronic goods and perishable items from specific countries during times of natural disasters. He also cited the ban on import of safety masks from China as an example. As we move towards utmost technological advancements in manufacturing and logistics, the need for availability of any regional product all across the globe has risen tremendously with the increase of immigration between cites and countries. This has in fact opened up a vast market for trading which once remained closed and within a nation’s boundaries.
