THE GATHERING OF GOD’S PEOPLE Greet Your Friends and Our Guests The Concerns of the Body Diana Howe, Lay Leader The Morning Prelude “How Beautiful” arr. Joel Raney flute, Cindy F. Thomas GOD CALLS US TO WORSHIP he Call to Worship— L: The Earth is the Lord’s and all that is in it, the world, and those who live in it. P: for he has founded it on the seas, and established it on the rivers. L: Who shall ascend the hill of the Lord? And who shall stand in his holy place? ALL: Those who have clean hands and pure hearts, who do not lift up their souls to what is false, and do not swear deceitfully. +The Hymn #546 “The Church’s One Foundation” +The Opening Prayer— O God, you summon the day to dawn, you teach the morning to waken the Earth. For you the valleys shall sing for joy, the trees of the fields shall clap their hands. For you the kings of the earth shall bow, the poor and the persecuted shall shout for joy. Your love and mercy shall last forever, fresh as the morning, sure as the sunrise. Great is your name. Great is your love. Amen.
WE CONFESS OUR SINS The Call to Confession The Prayer of General Confession— Our Lord Jesus has said, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.” This is the greatest and first commandment. And a second is like it: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” On these two commandments stand the law and the prophets. As God has instructed us in these great commandments, and because we have not lived in full obedience, let us now confess our sins to God, trusting Christ as our Savior and Lord. Moments For Personal Confession Words of Assurance and Pardon The Hymn of Response #2164 “Sanctuary” The First Lesson WE SHARE THE WORD Ephesians 2:11-22 So then, remember that at one time you Gentiles by birth, called “the uncircumci- sion” by those who are called “the circumcision”—a physical circumcision made in the flesh by human hands—remember that you were at that time without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers to the cove- nants of promise, having no hope and without God in the world. But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ. For he is our peace; in his flesh he has made both groups into one and has broken down the dividing wall, that is, the hostility between us. He has abol- ished the law with its commandments and ordinances, that he might create in himself one new humanity in place of the two, thus making peace, and might reconcile both groups to God in one body through the cross, thus putting to death that hostility through it. So he came and proclaimed peace to you who were far off and peace to those who were near; for through him both of us have access in one Spirit to the Father. So then you are no longer strangers and al- iens, but you are citizens with the saints and also members of the household of God, built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the cornerstone. In him the whole structure is joined together and grows into a holy temple in the Lord; in whom you also are built together spiritu- ally into a dwelling place for God.
+The Act of Praise #808 (Response #2) Psalm 89:19-37 +The Affirmation of Faith #881 The Apostle’s Creed +The Gloria Patri #70 The Morning Prayer…………………………………………..….....The Lord’s Prayer (using trespasses) +The Gospel Lesson Mark 6:30-34, 53-56 The apostles gathered around Jesus, and told him all that they had done and taught. He said to them, “Come away to a deserted place all by yourselves and rest a while.” For many were coming and going, and they had no leisure even to eat. And they went away in the boat to a deserted place by themselves. Now many saw them going and recognized them, and they hurried there on foot from all the towns and arrived ahead of them. As he went ashore, he saw a great crowd; and he had compassion for them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd; and he began to teach them many things. When they had crossed over, they came to land at Gennesaret and moored the boat. When they got out of the boat, people at once recognized him,and rushed about that whole region and began to bring the sick on mats to wherever they heard he was. And wherever he went, into villages or cities or farms, they laid the sick in the marketplaces, and begged him that they might touch even the fringe of his cloak; and all who touched it were healed.
