Cover Story Rebar Mill at Angul, Nation’s Pride Endeavour to provide World-Class Infrastructure On the auspicious day of April 28, 2022, Hon’ble Union Steel Minister Shri Ramchandra Prasad Singh dedicated the world’s largest Rebar Mill of 1.4 MTPA capacity to the nation at the Angul Steel Complex of JSP, bringing in new dimensions in business & sustainability. JSP has always focussed on world-class infrastructure by introducing a Coal gasification based DRI plant for steel making with an effective carbon capture unit, India’s largest and most modern Blast Furnace, Sinter Plant, Coke Oven plant, and now an ultra-modern state of the art Rebar Mill. The Hon’ble Union Steel Minister Shri Ramchandra Prasad Singh thanked JSP and its Chairman Mr. Naveen Jindal for his efforts to increase the capacity of the Angul plant to 25 MTPA by 2030. He also appreciated JSPL Foundation for its CSR initiatives especially on supplying Liquid Medical Oxygen nationwide during the 2nd wave of the covid pandemic. Mr. Naveen Jindal, Chairman, JSP said that with an investment of Rs. 900 Crores, one of the world’s most modern and largest Rebar Mill will set new benchmarks in making India self-reliant and JSP will produce high-quality TMT Rebars of different specifications for building quality infrastructure. It has already generated many direct employment opportunities and will generate lakhs of indirect employment in the future. He said that the vision of PM Mr. Narendra Modi for Coal Gasification is being transformed into a reality by JSP which runs the world’s first Coal gasification-based DRI plant with a 2 MTPA iron-making capacity. 12 | Jindal | May 2022
MD, JSP Mr. VR Sharma said that it is a futuristic company with a vision of producing at least half of its output through coal gasification which is the key to green steel making for a sustainable future. Since India’s focus is on rapid urbanization, the Rebar Mill will help create world-class infrastructure. TMT Rebar is the backbone of any reinforced cement concrete (RCC) structure and is anchored into concrete to bear loads of buildings, slabs, beams, and columns. The consumption of Rebars in India is currently estimated at about 42 Million Tonnes as per a report by Global consultancy Frost & Sullivan which was 24 Million Tonnes in 2019 at about Rs 1.2 trillion. Blast Furnace Creates History, Sets high Target ‘Blast Furnace ka waada 11000 TPD production Ya Usse Zayda’ is the quote that has been printed in every individual’s mind working at the JSP’s Angul Blast Furnace. On 12th March 2022, for the first time BLAST FURNACE had produced 11003 TPD liquid hot metal and the entire team celebrated this emotional moment as the target was awaited from a very long time. March 2022 is the only month in any calendar year in which JSP’s Angul Blast Furnace team has witnessed 15 times record breaking production figures. Jindal | May 2022 | 25
Employees & School Children Fire Safety programs JSP - Angul observed the National Fire Service Week from 14th to 20th April and during the period the Fire and Safety Department conducted a series of Fire Safety awareness programs, training and demonstrated rescue operations for employees and children of schools in periphery. Competency Development Workshop A Two days long workshop was held to spread the awareness and to ensure safety during lifting of the Equipment in O&M. The classroom training session was conducted by an expert agency M/s Action Construction Equipments (ACE) and was attended by Hydra Operators, Riggers and Job Supervisors. Successful participants were given a certificate of merit by the Agency. Training on Defensive Driving Held To create awareness among all Road users, a four days long workshop on “Defensive Driving Training”was organized for the employees of JSP, O.P Jindal School Children’ & heavy vehicle drivers. Homage paid to Fire Fighters The National Fire Service Day was celebrated at SSD-Punjipathra on 14th April in which homage paid to fire fighters who laid their lives to rescue people from fire. A show was done with displaying Fire Safety equipments by Fire & Safety Team. JPL achieved consecutive PLF of more than 70% Jindal Power Ltd has achieved consecutive PLF of more than 70% for the last 2 months. This is the best performance in the history of the station.The milestone achieved, is a testament to hard work and dedication. Behaviour Based Safety Training A 4 days long workshop was successfully organised on “Behaviour Based Safety” that addressed the pertinent aspects of co-creating a culture of Safety and adhering to best safety practices. The program witnessed an engaging participation from employees as well as Business Associates. Fire Safety Week observed at JPL Tamnar The National Fire Service Day observed on 14th April and in adherence to the tradition Fire Safety Week was observed to pay homage to the Fire Fighters who martyred for the safety of the people. JIPT offers courses JIPT (Jindal Institute of Power Technology)-Tamnar offers PGDC & PDC courses in Power Plant Technology. It is recognized by the Central Electricity Authority (CEA), Ministry of Power (Government of India) as a category-1 Institute and has started off with its campus placement drive for the year 2021-22. With a vision to extend maximum placement opportunities to the students in esteemed organisations, JIPT has been pivotal in shaping careers of the aspiring power plant professionals. World Autism Awareness Day World Autism Awareness day was observed on 2nd April by JSPL Foundation in nearby villages of Angul Plant. Autism is also known as Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in which a child faces problems in communication and behaviour. Blood Donation Camp A Blood donation Camp was organised in Coordination with District Blood Bank-Angul on 31 March on the occasion of the death anniversary of Bauji Sh. OP Jindal Ji. MOU for HIV/AIDS Awareness JSP signed MoU with Odisha State AIDS Control Society (OSACS) on 2nd April for awareness, prevention and treatment of HIV/AIDS positives. JSPL Foundation has taken various initiatives via OHS to ensure better treatment including referral to ICTC, check-up and counselling. A Training of Trainer (ToT) session was organized and sensitization sessionson prevention, testing, treatment and counselling were conducted in coordination with team OSACS. World Health Day Observed With the theme of “Our Planet, our health” World health Day observed on 7th April in village Kunjemura, Manjhapara, Kasdol, Amapali and Dongamauha in the vicinity of JPL-Tamnar. A health awareness rally was conducted in which more than 200 people participated. Session for Swasthya Sangini At Raigarh, a sensitisation Session was done for the swasthyasangini and health volunteers by the experienced doctors in coordination with JSPL Foundation. OPJS organizes Recitation Program for Tiny tots OPJS, Tamnar organized a fun recitation program for the new school goers, the tiny tots of KG 1 & 2. The program witnessed enthusiastic participation from all the KG students where the tiny minds had their maiden experience of speaking on stage. The program was a great success! National Safe Motherhood Day Observed National Safe Motherhood Day was observed on 11th April to make aware of families in the vicinity of Power plant in Tamnar. The aim of the program was to reduce maternal and neonatal morbidity through preventive healthcare. Agricultural Implements to Poor Farmers On the occasion of the death anniversary of Bauji Sh. OP Jindal ji on 31st March, Agriculture implements (Motor Pump, Sprayer machine and other material) were distributed among 20 Poor and marginal Farmers in the vicinity of Raigarh plant. Making Girls Self-reliant JSPL Foundation-Raigarh aims to make the girls self-reliant and under a special initiative it is supporting 6 interested girls from nearby villages for beautician course. National Health Fair organized for specially abled children In a series of programs being organized across the country under the Amrit Mahotsav of Independence, the National Health Fair for specially abled childeren was organized at Asha-The Hope campus by Special Olympics India- Chhattisgarh in collaboration with JSPL Foundation at Raigarh. In this, arrangements were made for health check-up, treatment and encouragement of mentally challenged children of Raigarh district. 80 children of the district were benefitted by this. In the camp, 14 specialist doctors from Raigarh, Bilaspur and Raipur Medical Colleges provided their services. Officers of Special Olympics India Chhattisgarh, including officer of Social Welfare Department Mr.VinayTiwari, Director of Unnayak Seva Samiti Mr. Siddhant Shekhar Mohanty and DGM CSR were present. Talented students of OP Jindal School rewarded Prize distribution ceremony was organized in the auditorium of O.P. Jindal School, Raigarh. For the last two consecutive years, this award was being postponed due to the Corona epidemic. All the selected students of the session 2019-20 and 2020-21 were rewarded by the invited guests and the principal. Deepika, Prashansha Bansal, Poorva Saxena, Riddhi Dutta and Tania Patel were awarded with a scholar gown and roll of honour. It is noteworthy that Vibha Patel, Sagnik Kole and 66 students were awarded Scholar Gold for their 100% attendance for ten consecutive years. Observation of World Autism Awareness Day Autism is mainly characterized by its unique social interactions, non-standard ways of learning, keen interests in specific subjects, inclination to routines, challenges in typical communications and particular ways of processing sensory information.The stigmatization and discrimination associated with neurological differences remain substantial obstacles to diagnosis and therapies. Dr. Manju Mishra (Gynecologist) given health talks focusing on the healthcare needs and problems of women. Awareness generated among 50 women during the session. Jindal School, Patratu added one exclusive feather in its cap on academic front when one student of the school named as Rishika Agarwal of class X, has shone brightly as she has got selected for YUVIKA – 2022, YuvaVigyaniKaryakram, a promotional programme for young scientists wherein over 2 lakh students had participated across the country.
