Seniors Katy Lorentz and Frances Whitworth// EDITORS IN CHIEF have shared the title of Editor-In-Chief for the 2019-2020 school year. The responsibilities for this position are varied and substantial, and require creativity, precision and attention to detail to execute. At the start of each month, the duo directs a brainstorming session to determine what articles will be written and assigns staff reporters to each. Then throughout the month, they edit drafts for each article to check for quality and fix errors, before sending them off to advisor, Ms. Gerianne Bartlett, for a final review. At the end of the month, Lorentz and Whitworth construct the front page of the newspaper, and assist other editors in formatting the other pages. This requires them to stay long into the night, working to ensure the paper is accurate and well-made. Both Whitworth and Lorentz began their newspaper careers their sophomore year as staff reporters. Whitworth continued on to Editor-in-Chief last year, while Lorentz was made the Feature editor. Each demonstrated their strong work ethics and creative ability in these positions. Thanks to her hard work and success in Spartan athletics and academics, Whitworth has committed to Davidson College to run cross-country and track. She plans to major in either biology or chemistry so she can go on to work as a physical therapist in the future. Lorentz also plans to major in chemistry, and will be attending University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in the fall. She wants to attend medical school eventually to become a pathologist or find a research based career in the medical field.
