Embracing change Exploring possibilities Home Based Learning (HBL) 2020 is certainly an unforgettable year for teachers, students and parents as learning was moved from school to home in Term 2.During this period, our dedicated teachers overcame a steep learning curve to design and deliver online lessons. This could not be possible without the partnership with our parents who set up spaces at home and supported their children so that they could focus on learning. In this segment, we will take a peek into the lives of our teachers, Miss Jasmine Yap and Mr Lim Wee Shan, and some students during the FHBL period.

Home Based Learning An interview with our teachers, Ms Yap and Mr Lim. How do you think HBL has shaped your A peek into Ms Yap's study room. view about Teaching and Learning I need my Bro, give me space too, some space (T&L) via the use of ICT tools and you know. please. platforms? Ms Yap: The whole period has paved the way for the use of ICT in the classroom. Teachers were previously deterred from using ICT in their lessons due to technical difficulties/ steep learning curve with the various platforms and tools. After being thrown into the deep end of the pool, we've learnt to stay afloat and make the best out of the situation. Now, we are able to implement this use more effectively in our lessons because we know what works and what doesn't. Mr Lim: The FHBL helped me to better identify the right tools to deliver my lessons. Some ICT tools that I thought highly of previously turned out to be not the most ideal ones and I had to tweak to select a more suitable tool. How do you think this journey has Sorry, my work is more improved your teaching and learning? important. Mr Lim: One concrete takeaway for me was how HBL preparation trained me to consider lesson flow in a different way. I came back to school realising that I had more ideas for scaffolding new concepts to be taught. Ms Yap: By analysing students' responses online, I knew what was effective for their learning. It also got me to rethink my practices in the classroom as well.

Home Based Learning An interview with our teachers, Ms Yap and Mr Lim. Share with us one 'high point' or memorable experience from this journey. Ms Yap: It would be the live session with my students. After the class, I allowed them to remain online for a while to catch up with each other. They started bringing their pets and siblings on screen. That was an enjoyable few minutes! It gave me an insight to their lives outside of school. What were some reservations you had going into FHBL? Mr Lim: Honestly, I had no reservations. In fact, I was very thankful for the opportunity to spend time with family since I became a newly-minted father! Furthermore, I felt that the challenges allowed ourselves, the parents and even our students the opportunity to rethink our own assumptions about school life and to make changes in our lifestyles so that learning could continue. There was a steep learning curve but I felt I was mentally prepared for it.

The life of TNPS students during HBL

How was the HBL learning experience different from ?learning in school Sophie: It is different learning at home without my teachers and friends. I missed the classroom atmosphere. My parents became my teachers during HBL. Ieaaktlrhwelppeiaertayrems,spssyaciorgsoeenImdlmhfpf-aeblodnEeurmttsmesymrdomaebrtnyyheaetpdtaiohHmroiBeneLmn.gItes.

How was the HBL learning experience different from ?learning in school Rithika: It was a brand- new experience which gave me an opportunity to do my academic, co-curricular and personal works in a balanced manner. I was able to finish my HBL assignments well within the allocated time. Hence, I could play more with my little sister who is two now. My parents allowed me to do more artworks which I wished for but only after finishing the homework. I was also very much excited to see my teachers on video teaching us. Joyleen: HBL was very different because when we have some questions we do not know how to answer, we cannot ask the teachers immediately. We had to be more independent.

Emran: I have an elder sister in P4. She is always with me and helps to answer questions I may have. We can also focus better with each other around. I especially like PE sessions when my sister joins me. Was the experience the same for your siblings? How were you able to help your siblings? Sophie: My sister is only in Sophie & her sister Toddler class. Her HBL is doing some light only colouring, cutting and stretching. pasting. She did not have to sit for hours to complete her schoolwork. I helped her to complete her artwork at times.

Wstihabyseolyitnsuohagueamsrb?eeslxHeipbfootelowirnrihygewoesneu?lcprree Rithika: Though my two-year-old sister did not have HBL, I was sure that she had a wonderful experience as she had more play time with me during this HBL period. My sister had lots of fun distracting me while I was busy with my HBL work but I did not mind. After completing my HBL work, I taught my little sister her ABCs, 123s and shapes. I was able to be a role model for her when she saw me studying on my laptop, writing my assignments, and doing oral practice. bmrJootoeySthatloehcemteehorneruwht:ttneiiMiommladlyccewehoiryfssamo,hhtiIuatieemwnnfhdodgo.iore.dumrmlndeyot

WELCOME TO TNPS! TNPS was honoured to host Minister for Education, Mr Lawrence Wong when he popped by for a school visit on 28 October 2020. Through Minister Wong’s interaction with our students dauring the class visits, he discovered how our students deepened their learning about the environment through hands-on experiences in the Green Food Garden and Art lessons. Minister Wong even had a try at harvesting vegetables from our school garden with the Green Champs! Our P5 and P6 students warmed up to Minister Wong easily and shared with him their experiences during the Circuit Breaker. It was heartening to know that our students had stepped up and demonstrated resilience and adaptability to overcome the challenges they faced. Thank you, Minister Wong, for your time with us.

BACKTOSCHOOL! June 2020 was like no other! Instead of school holidays, it was the start of Term 3. Wearing of masks and shields, wipe-down drills and safe distancing was a new normal that we embraced as our students and staff returned to school. It was also the first time that the entire school cohort was not present in school at the same time as students returned in staggered intervals. Finally our school reunion happened in Term 3 Week 5. Themed ‘Rays of H.O.P.E’, we welcomed the entire school back with a big bang! We are so proud of our students who have displayed the values of Responsibility, Resilience and Care during their Full Home Based Learning and Safe Re-opening.

In addition to conducting face-to-face lessons, some teachers also used video conferencing to coach and guide the students individually or in small groups. Together, everyone played their part to keep our school a safe place as we embraced a new normal.

English Poetry Comes Week Alive! Themed \"Poetry Comes Alive\", our English teachers deepened our students' love for the language and sharpened their use of the Language through a plethora of fun and interesting poetry activities. Our teachers dressed as characters from popular nursery rhymes. Can you identify who they are?

National Day Celebration 2020 This year's National Day celebrations was like no other. \"Together A Stronger Singapore\", this theme reminded all of us that unity is key as we faced a challenging 2020. True to the theme, the spirit of unity was evident as we celebrated as one while we were gathered in our classrooms throughout the celebration. From the mass dance to the legendary TNPS cheer and wave, the physical barriers did not stop us from having fun and interacting with the rest of the school.

National Day Celebration 2020 Lastly, to end off with a big bang, the whole school came together for the finale with our very own TNPS UNITY Clap. This was the highlight of the celebration as the claps resounded across the entire school compound. Led by only the beat of the drum via the screen, there was synchronisation and synergy. We clapped and cheered as one united school. Indeed there is no mountain too high that we can't scale if we stand united. “ ... the celebration was “Students were very engaged and enjoyed packed with fun-filled the celebration. Despite not being able to activities and students sing / dance together in an open area, we can still feel the “NDP” atmosphere!” - Mr Lim really enjoyed themselves even Chee Xin though in a constraint of a classroom. CYBER WELLNESS In the year when students' screen time have increased tremendously and access to the Internet is needed for learning, our CyberWellness Team recognised that it was even more important to impart Cyber Wellness values to our students to prepare them to be responsible users. Harnessing on technology, the assembly messages were brought directly to the classrooms via GoogleMeet. During the session, our students learnt about the dangers of cyber contacts and the importance of a balanced use of technology. The Cyber Wellness Champions went into the classrooms to conduct interactive and exciting Kahoot! Quizzes which engaged our students and helped to assess if they had understood the content of the lesson.

Teacher's Day @TNPS At TNPS, we would like to affirm the hardwork of our teachers. It has not been an easy year for them as they had to adapt to many changes and at the same time, ensure the well-being of our students are taken care of and learning continues. Truly, our teachers are our champions. Their hardwork and care did not go unnoticed. To thank their teachers, our students designed a bookmark for their favourite teacher. The designs depicted their heartfelt gratitide and immense appreciation. Thank you, TNPS teachers! You are our champions! Our Prefects as the MCs for the live virtual celebration! Students designing bookmarks for their teacher.

MODULAR CCA To continue providing our students with the CCA experience that is essential to their holistic development, modular CCAs were conducted for our Primary4 & 5 students in Term 3. With safe management measures in place, CCA took on a new form in our school hall. Our students, who were not able to attend the traditional CCA, were thrilled to be back in action. Not only did they learn new skills, but they also reconnected with their teachers and fellow classmates. During the sessions, our students learnt drawing skills in the Manga Drawing Art module and had lots of fun grooving to the beat in the Hip Hop dance module. The modular CCAs were very well received by the students, who found it a refreshing change to the usual CCA format and experiences that they were used to. “HoffiuphnAaHidtar!odr”n-ip,adAbniIrsuaietsk, sniPiantj5odi.ys3 “Let us teCyxCppAeessrioteofnMgcieovmeduuolsraear varied EethxpaenrTieannc,eP”5-.4 “I want to have another dance lesson because it is cool!” - Yang Yifei, P4.4

ENDING ON A HIGH NOTE! Students getting their moves on with virtual dance coaches! 2020 was a challenging year for everyone. To make the last day of school memorable for the students, we ended the year with a mini carnival. Keeping all the safe management measures in check did not deter us from injecting the element of fun into the carnival. Fun-filled art activities and interactive games were planned for our students Our students got to make their own photo frames and self-created paper planes or ninja stars before they participated in the exciting games using their hand-made paper planes or ninja stars. Bring on the next challenge! All masked up and ready to play!

Aiming for the best (Quoit Bocce) Fly the plane or kick the ball like we always do! ......just do both...flying kick! Taking a shot to fame! Time to put their creation to the test as our Never give up! students challenged their peers. They threw their paper planes and ninja stars with all their might and with bated breath, watch how far they flew. Kick bowling and quoit bocce were also some other fun games that our eager students got to enjoy and laugh heartily. To end off the eventful day, everyone watched some of our students showcase their wonderful talents in our “TNPS Got Talent” segment. These students went through online auditions and emerged as the top three winners. Their performances ended the carnival on a high note with everyone appreciating their talents through the thunderous applause and cheering that resonated across the classrooms. Launching their handmade paper planes at rocket speed - not to be missed!

Student Achievement 2020 TNPS' Budding Writer Everyone can imagine. Everyone can come up with good ideas and stories. But it takes passion and commitment to put those ideas and imaginative stories into words on paper. Caitlynn Mah (Primary 6.5) has demonstrated that ability with her recent win in the “Little Red Dot Write Away” Competition. Sreya and Jayavardhan from Primary 6.3 took the opportunity to have a quick chat with Caitlynn to find out more about her interest in writing. A diary given to her by her father started Caitlynn on her writing journey many years ago but her key inspiration came from her brother. Watching him write countless poems, plays and songs sparked her interest and she realised how much she enjoyed writing too and the rest, as they say, is history. The writing style of her favourite author, \"1Tg.ooDo2pod. M\"n3owatokTcerirdpaeasdmvsaednryftydoorwuoptrohhmcrerdoapmscCleoopstauo..nIistttit.dliToyohnenisnwnknito:ht Michelle Cuevas, struck a chord with Caitlynn because her book, \"Confessions of an 3a.bTohuetreecaNhocaOnhstwrCtibooHurcAbdtaNee'rssGeamftEuco,ehllNatyahnOneignPsegtLoiaOnrnTytd.h! ehoswtority. She highly recommends that you read \"Confessions of an Imaginary Friend\". Remember, never be afraid to put pen to paper. Write away, readers!
