editorial note …  As rightly stated by Arianna Huffington,   “  We all need to be reminded to stay connected to the essence of  who  we  are,  to  take  care  of  ourselves  along the way, to reach out  to  others,  to  pause  to  wonder, and to connect to that place from  which everything is possible.    WELCOME  to  our  first  issue  of  “Wander”-  a  travel  and  tourism  magazine  for  the  students  by  the  students.  “Wander”  is  a  compilation  of  the  tremendous  effort  put  in  by  the  team  and  also  an  immense  amount  of creativity to bring you a  unique and thoughtful experience.  “Not all who wander are lost”-J.R.R Tolkien.    It  is  believed  that  traveling  is  a  way  for  people  to  spend  their  free  time  when they  have  nothing  to  do  but  this  ideology  is  what  keeps  young  minds  from  doing  extraordinary  things.  Traveling  has  never  been  considered  an  ideal  goal  but  we  often  forget  that  going  to  new  places,  talking  to  new  people  and  learning  their  history  and  culture  would  broaden  our  knowledge and give us a new perspective on  life.  The  world  offers  everything  that  we  seek,  only  we  need  to look in the right place  for  it.  Even  though  traveling across the globe is in pause for some time, we can still  travel in our own country and discover various experiences India has to offer.      This travel and tourism magazine is an attempt at opening windows to our beautiful  world  out  there  for  all  of  us.  This  issue  is  filled  with  diverse  options  and  ideas  related to traveling for experiences and tales.    We hope that you will enjoy reading this magazine and share it with others as well.    Happy Reading…..

must visit attractions in India India is a diverse country. Just as there are thousands of languages spoken in India, there are zillions of  tourist attractions which behold travellers. While many are downright astonishing, some are as quirkier as  a  myriad  of  lizards.  If  you  are  up  for  unraveling  the  most  unusual  tourists’  attractions,  this article is  meant  for  you.  Take  a  glimpse  to  our incredibly miscellaneous India which will astound even the most  intrepid of travellers.  1. A bridge out of LIVING TRUNKS! Have  you  ever  imagined  walking  on  a  bridge,  not  made  out  of  bitumen  but  natural  roots  of  a  tree?!  Located  in  the  Scotland  of  Eastern  India,  Meghalaya,  these intricate living creatures took about 15-30  years  to  outgrow.  This  rubber  bridge  was  initialized  by  the  Khasi  tribes  as  an  attempt  to  link  isolated  villages,  with  an  ingenious  way  to  traverse  across  the  turbulent  waterways  via  living  root  bridges,  locally  known  as  jing  kieng  jri.  This marvel  of  Mother  Nature  can  live  up  to  several  decades, withstanding a total weight of over  1000  kilograms  at an instant- a remarkable  feature  which  no  man-site  can  ever  duplicate.   2. A hill that defies gravity! This  lockdown  has  definitely  made  people  a  plump,  but  let  me  tell  you  a  dark  secret.  You  could  just  easily  lose  your  weight  in  a  split  of  a  second!  Don’t  you  believe  me?  Take  a  glimpse  to  the  Magnetic  Hill  of  Ladakh,  where  instead  of  things  rolling  downwards,  it actually goes uphill. A car set  stationary with its engine off on this small stretch  of road, leaves you startled! The vehicle is attracted  with an approximate speed of 20km/hr. Due to this  unique outright defiance of gravity, it has been prominently known as the “Mystery Hill” or the “Gravity  Hill”.

3. A Floating Land Imagine  yourself  being  a  buoyant  without  having  to  climb  a  boat!  Well,  you  could  explicitly  do  this  in  Loktak  Lake  in Bishnupur  district  of  Manipur.  Universally  known  as  the  “Floating  Lake”,  it  is  the  largest  freshwater  lake  in  northeast  India  and  also  the  only  floating  national  park  in  the world. It provides  shelter  to over 233 aquatic plant species, 425  animal  species  and  over  100  species  of  birds.  Covering  an  area  of  300  square  meters,  it  houses a bunch of floating phumdis, which are  nothing  but  floating  patches  of  vegetation,  soil  and  other  organic  matter.  It  is  a blissful appeal that  sets off the sereneness of a human's vision to a buzz.  4. A monument without legs! Bara  Imambara,  situated  in  Lucknow  is  a  historical  structure  aging  over  300  years.  This shrine was built by the Shias to perform  Muharram  rituals.  Its  architecture  exhibits  both European and Arabic cultures with black  walls  engraved  in  white  with  religious verses,  as  if  those  concrete  barriers  were  willingly  crying out their own stories to people. One of  the  most  peculiar  features  of  this  ancient  structure  is  that  the  roof  of  this  hall  hangs  upright  without  any  support-  neither  any  beams  nor  any  pillars!  This  gravity-defying  feature  has  attracted many tourists across the world. Besides this, it even has mazes, renowned as baoli, a mosque  and verdant gardens.

5. The Mysterious Skeleton Lake This place is not for the faint of heart! Set within  the munificent mountain ranges, the Roopkund lake  remains  in  limelight  for  its  unsolved  mystery.  This “Mystery Lake” dates back to the skeletons of  humans  and  horses  of  the  Palaeolithic  Age..  Roopkund remains frozen for almost all time of the  year. It is captivated by snow-laden mountains and  rock-strewn  glaciers.  To  take  a  sight  of  this  uncanny  view,  you  need  to  trek  your  way  through  various historic villages rich in pahari culture and glacial valleys- it is indeed a challenge up your sleeves!  must visit attractions in the world Nature  can  do  bizarre  things  and there are some seriously strange places that people could have never  even dreamt of in their wildest fantasies. Whilst travellers are up for an escapade to the most beautiful  places in the world, pinpointing those greatest hits of Mother Nature could take a lifetime. From a well  that  sprouts  to  a  lake  with  bloats  of  spots, we’ve got 5 eeriest places to prove you’ll that apart from  the bliss of nature the world is also filled with some extraordinary places.   1. A Natural Hole that swallows the Sea! Sitting  on  the  edge  of  the  Oregon  coast  near  Cape  Perpetua,  this  bottomless  sinkhole  breaks  the  stream of seawater. However, Thor’s  Well,  the  wonder  of  Nature,  is  actually  not  bottomless  but  it  can  surely turn into a mishap for the faints of the hearts! This drainpipe  of  the  Pacific  is  most  spectacular  during  the  times  of  high  tides,  creating  sudden  torrents  which,  regardless  of  being  dangerous,  are  fascinated  by  nature  theists  to  take  a  glimpse  of  the  aggressive  waters  sprouting  out  to  live  up  to  their  stormy  personality.  To  see  the best of both the worlds, arrive at the sightseeing before an hour  of high tide to view it without waters and then gradually witness the  violent waters filling up to their Godly attire.

2. The Pink Lake! Everyone has learnt in their geography classes that water  bodies  are  marked  with  blue.  But  nature  likes  to  mess  with  us  and  create  oddities  just  like  the  Lake  Hillier  of  Western Australia. This eye-striking view, lying beside the  Pacific  Ocean  is  a  stunning  swath  of  solid  bubble-gum  pink  whose  remarkable  color  still  remains  an  unsolved  mystery.  It  is  presumed  that  this  color  actually  is  obtained from a microscopic salt-loving algae species, yet  these  theories  are  not  proven.  To  unleash  your  bills,  obtain  a  perfect  contrast  between  the  Pacific  blue  hue  and rosy hue via a helicopter view during the winters and  summers.    3. A Different World- where the weird things are! The  alienated  Socotra,  220  miles  from  the  mainland  Yemen  is  home  to  a  splendor  of  eccentric  plants  and  animals  which  are  supposedly  not  found  anywhere  else  on  the  Earth-  particularly  weird  are  the  ancient  twisted  dragon’s  blood  tree  and  bulbous  bottle  tree.  It  is  estimated  that  this  island  was separated from mainland Africa for more  than  6  million  years  ago.  Instead  of  roads,  this  archaeological  island  is  home  to  several  caves  and  even  a  number  of  shipwrecks.  An  incredible view only witnessed in sci-fi films.

4. A beauty out of trash Have  you  imagined  your pet dog to actually transform into  a  wolf  supernaturally?  No  right?  But  a  miracle  has  surprisingly  led  into  a  transition  of  rubbish  to  a  beautiful  island of glass in California. The place was meant to dump  garbage  but  a  series  of  ceaseless  Pacific  waves  weathered  the  discarded  glass  in  trash  into  smooth, beautiful colored  trinkets  of  pebbles  that  cover  the  beach  today.  However,  this tourist attraction is now under threat due to travellers  taking away the glass as souvenirs. 5. A polka-dotted Lake! Located  between  the  Okanagan  and  Similkameen  valleys  in  British  Columbia’s  desert,  the  Spotted  Lake  is  an  oddly-patterned  body  of  water.  It  is  researched and proven that during the summers the  water  in  this  lake  evaporates  leaving  behind  small  mineral  pools,  each  of  a  different  color  to  the  adjacent  one.  It  is  miraculously  even  possible  to  walk through these pools around the edges of their  dry sections. Moreover, it is believed that this lake was used as a hub to manufacture explosives during  World War I. However, today both Canada and the United States consider this lake as a sacred spot for  medicines.

Century Egg, China Considered as a delicacy in China, these preserved eggs with instead of white appearance actually have a striking translucent dark exterior with a greenish-black oozing yolk that is unusual from a normal yellow one. However, it completely defies its name - it is neither a century nor a millennium ago old, yet these eggs are rotten! The mixture of clay, ash, salt and rice hulls are preserved for months, these eggs, regardless being rotten, taste miraculously delicious. The ritual of preserving eggs in China goes back to the Ming Dynasty which later led people into consuming nutritious food for health, heavily on demand at times of wars.        3. Snake Wine, Vietnam Made from venomous snakes and alcoholic rice wine, this unusual specialty of Vietnam has rendered people from across the globe. It is something even the locals haven’t tried yet. Derived and emerged from the beginning of Western Zhou dynasty, this liquor even has its name listed for medicinal purposes. Hákarl, Iceland Ever had a fantasy to eat the species that eat humans? Well, its true. Why miss such an opportunity to feel superior huh?! Hákarl is a dish cooked from the flesh of sharks. It undergoes through a process of several months to finally have the venoms edible to us. This rotten shark meat is buried and left to decompose, after which it is hung to drain out all the poisonous internal fluids, leaving only white edible flesh. The aroma is described as ammonia-rich with a hint of ‘fishy-flavor’. If you are brave enough to confront a shark, seemingly a dead one of course, just give it a shot! 6. Travel Hacks and Tips   Tip 1 : Goodbye messy suitcases  We all would love to carry our entire wardrobe along with us if we had the chance. So, we end up cluttering our bags making it really messy. Rolling the clothes gives more space, looks organized and will really save you from carrying extra luggage. Tip 2 : Just a scan might get you home Passport is the most important way of identification while traveling abroad so losing the passport is a big deal and there is a hefty procedure to get a good one too. Having a scan of your passport can save you from getting stranded abroad. But in simple words, never lose your passport. Tip 3 : Handle with care  Waiting at the luggage drop to collect bags takes a lot of patience and is really irritating. Having a fragile sticker will ensure that your bag comes within the first few minutes. Mostly all fragile items are placed on top so making it the first to come out, which saves time and keeps your luggage safe. Tip 4 : Fool pickpockets by buying a dummy wallet Pickpockets are almost everywhere so it's hard to avoid them. However, outsmart them by having a fake wallet in your pocket and main money in your bag. Also don't forget to laugh while imagining their disappointment. Tip 5 : keep a pen in every pocket Pens usually come in handy while traveling abroad to sign and note details and borrowing it from a stranger can be quite infuriating and time-wasting.

Tip 6 : Avoid getting lost by typing in \"ok map\"  Google Maps is no doubt a blessing in disguise for all of us. Without it we would easily get lost. However, Maps most of the time operates online so it is a bummer when there is no internet. Having google maps downloaded offline might be one of the best inventions to date. Tip 7 : A converter / power-bank your new best friend  Having a low battery on your electronic device can be pretty annoying and not being able to charge it is another headache. Many countries have different power sockets so a converter would definitely help in this hard time and with power-banks you are never out of power. Tip 8 : Know what to expect  Traveling to a totally new destination might make you a bit nervous and so you must have some basic knowledge about the destination and its citizens. This would help you to not accidentally offend culture and also to know what you must expect. Tip 9 : Avoid the cash  It is safe to not carry much money in cash unless you think your stash is very well kept. Travelers always consider having bank debit & credit cards or forex cards instead of cash. Tip 10 : Stop when they warn  Language barriers might make you wonder what the messages mean. However, looking at the signs might help you comprehend what it means. Signs would help you to not do something that is prohibited in the destination. Hence, keeping you from falling into trouble.

Stepping into the airport, we were greeted by a myriad of stunning colours, new sounds, new experiences, and the friendliest locals I have met in any country I had ever been. Five minutes out of the airport, the ocean was visible in the horizon and I felt at home already. We stayed at a tiny little hotel off the beaten path, run by two friendly Indian gentlemen who had gone away and made a life for themselves in this new country. Every day they recommended new experiences to us and everyday we embarked on a new adventure, being thankful to come back and rest our wear bodies somewhere warm and inviting. As a lifelong child of the ocean, the wide variety of water related activities delighted me. We went snorkeling, speedboating, played in a real coral leaf, and even though we skipped swimming with sharks – suffice to say my parents aren’t quite as attracted to potential danger as I always have been! – I did find a tiny, adorable water snake whilst paddling at a resort one day. I observed it respectfully from a distance; although I would have loved to play properly, I suspect to such a small creature I was more likely to appear a predator. Even when we stayed entirely dry, we found plenty of entertainment. We traveled miles below sea level in a real submarine, tried all varieties of fascinating seafood – I learned that octopus has a very similar texture to chewing gum! – explored the various pretty seaside towns, and sometimes, we just sat by the ocean, watching clouds float by and quietly enjoying our time together as a family.

The district is usually crowded at night, so it was packed with so many people. The next day we went to an amusement park called ocean park. To reach there we took a cable car over lush green forests close to the beach. Ocean park was filled with so many rollercoasters and fun games, it also had an aquarium and a zoo. I had so much fun in Hong Kong, I would definitely go back again and visit many more places.

There were many ups and downs but I would say that the overall trip was great. The people there are really helpful and humble, but many of the locals there warned us from going out at night due to the high crime rates there, luckily nothing had happened to us. The place has an entirely different feel, from the smell of the open clean air to the fresh unpolluted sea waters. The local food there was delicious but mostly non-vegetarian. One other problem that we had faced there was navigation, as most of the places didn’t have proper network coverage, but we had worked our way around it by asking directions from the locals. The time that I spent in the game reserve of Johannesburg watching the wildlife in all its glory, was certainly a once in a lifetime experience.

We went on a road trip. We reached at the crack of dawn to witness as people jostled around to destinations they had to reach. It is an immensely cultural place, perfect for people that seek tradition and values. We visit Rajasthan almost every now and then, as the place feels like home. It has a certain warmth that can be felt by anybody and everybody there. The people are very intriguing, and prepare scrumptious food indeed! Rajasthan makes me feel a certain peace of mind that is very divine.

Cuisine tried Ghevar, Moong Dal Halwa, Khandvi. Paintings, puppets, Souvenirs, if any carpets and decorative pots. My Experience: I went to Rajasthan; it is one of the biggest states in India. I went there with my family; I went in the month of December. I stayed at the Umaid Bhawan Palace in Jodhpur, Shama desert camp in Jaisalmer, Marriot hotel in Jaipur, Narendra Bhavan in Bikaner. It was worthwhile spending my time and witnessing the fineness of the structure and the colourful cities. Rajasthan is most famous for the Hill Forts or the Palace in Rajasthan, some of which are on the world heritage list such as : ➤Hawa Mahal at Jaipur ➤Jaisalmer fort at Jaisalmer ➤Mehrangarh fort at Jodhpur ➤Junagarh fort at Bikaner Jodhpur has lovely fort and a museum which had the collections of weapons which they used in their militia during combat. The museum also has the collection of ancient cars. Jaipur has many factories of handmade accessories used in our daily life but two of the famous forts present there are; Hawa Mahal and Amer fort. Jaisalmer is a place where the off-road safari takes place. We got to live in the tents here and did some camel riding. Bikaner is a bustling place with many medieval grandeur place orchards. There is also a famous temple called Karni Mata Mandir. It is an astonishing temple full of rats There is also a horse farm in Bikaner. The farm contains all the breeds of horses.

TRAVEL TRENDS POST COVID-19  Demand  Evolution:  Traveller  preferences  and  behaviours  have  shifted  toward  the  familiar,  predictable,  and  trusted. Domestic vacations, extensive planning, and the outdoors will reign in the  short-term, with tourism businesses and destinations already adapting.

Health & Hygiene: Health, safety and trust are paramount in this new era. Personal experiences, the  fear of being stuck in another country, and concerns for distancing will guide consumer behaviour in  the  short-  to  mid-term.  Businesses  will  have  to  collaborate  even  more  closely  with their extended  value chains to ensure readiness.               Innovation & Digitisation: COVID-19 is proving to be an unexpected catalyst in the Travel & Tourism  sector’s  quest  for  innovation  and  the  integration  of  new  technologies.  Amid  stay-at-home  orders,  digital  adoption  and  consumption  are  on  the  rise,  with  consumers  now  expecting  contactless  technologies, among others, as a basic prerequisite for a safe and seamless travel experience.   Sustainability:  From  widespread  unemployment  and  anti-racism  movements  to  the  restoration  of  natural  habitats,  the  world  has  been  reinvigorated  to tackle social, environmental, and institutional  sustainability.  In  particular,  heightened  public  awareness  of  wildlife  markets  and  poaching  has  boosted advocacy for wildlife protection.

THE WAY FORWARD :  The following suggestions have been recommended on how the Travel & Tourism sector can ensure  a more seamless recovery. These include:  ● Border openings and repatriation: A harmonised approach to remove travel restrictions, with  a  previous  risk  assessment  in  place,  as  well  as  standardised  contact  testing  and  tracing  requirements at departure. ● Define  common  health  and  safety  standards:  The  public  and  private  sector  should  jointly  agree  on  the  implementation  of  health & safety standards across industries within Travel &  Tourism. ● Strengthen worker support schemes: Provide payroll protection and wage subsidies as well  as general consumer stimulus cheques and tax payment deferrals. ● Incentivise  travel:  Introduction  of  consumer  incentives  for  travel  spending,  starting  with  domestic  travelers  and  expanding  to  regional  and  international  as  quickly  as  possible  and  appropriate. ● Promote  tourism  starting  with  domestic  and  regional  travel:  To  capitalise  on  the  initial  recovery, governments, tourism boards and organisations should direct their early marketing  and promotional efforts to incentivise domestic and regional travel. Importantly, they should  also prepare and provide early marketing and promotional incentives to stimulate the earliest  possible regrowth and recovery of internal travel and tourism. ● Extend  digital  infrastructure  to  rural  destinations:  Investment  in  digital  infrastructure  of  emerging  destinations  and  remote  areas  will  be  critical,  as  well  as  enhancing  digital  skills  within local communities. ● Integrate digital identities: Accelerating the adoption of digital identities and solutions will be  key  to  maximise  accuracy  for  health  and  safety  protections  while  reducing  bias  in  border  control and expediting the movement of passengers. ● Rethink  the  workplace:  The  rapid  shift  to  remote  work  will  require  the  public  and  private  sectors to come together to determine how to optimise the new working arrangements. ● Stimulate  sustainability  practices:  Develop  and  provide  incentives  to  encourage  the  implementation of sustainability measures within the private sector.
