HOW DID THE COLLABORATION WITH VUUQA COME ABOUT? I connected with the co-founder of Vuuqa, Horesia Nyawade through Queer Women In Business—a platform empowering and advancing African queer women, trans and non-binaries through ACCESS. I wanted access to African made/owned brands for a photoshoot and so a perfect collaboration with Vuuqa was born. WHAT DOES THE COLLABORATION WITH VUUQA, AND AFRICAN BRANDS MEAN TO YOU? Working with Vuuqa to achieve a shared goal was very rewarding. I am passionate about African brands and have always used my platforms to promote Cameroonian brands however, my collaboration with Vuuqa took it a step further. I was able to touch, feel and wear these amazing designs created by young Africans. \"We need to be more confident in our own creative self-expression\" - Kiki Bandy 5

HOW DID IT FEEL LIKE COMING BACK TO THE MOTHERLAND AFTER 8 YEARS? It felt amazing! I was a little apprehensive given how long it’s been since I left Africa. Travelling to South Africa was a blissful experience I must say, it felt like home even though it was my first time in the country. Johannesburg’s vibe brought back some cheerful memories, the hot weather, the vegetation, the people, the townships. Visiting Mandela’s House, the Orlando Towers and finally trying out a yummy plate of the famous Shisa Nyama was definitely the highlight of my trip. kiki bandy kiki bandy \"Creating a website and posting products ELYTSEFIL AQUUV is not enough. To strive in the UK or global market, our brands need better user experience, great customer service, quality products and an aggressive marketing plan.\" Kiki Bandy on African Brands selling abroad. 6

HOW DID YOU MANAGE TO GROW A HUGE I think global attention is FOLLOWING ON IG? increasingly being drawn to African brands now more than I grew my social media following by ever and it can only get better. African brands are the future. being authentic and consistent. I However, Africans need to take advantage of Africa. Our culture understood from the very beginning has the largest proportion of art, music and design. This needs to that perfect is overrated and my brand translate into the uniqueness of our brands. We need to be more is not for everyone. Storytelling around confident in our own creative self- expression. my struggles and victories seemed to have resonated with a lot of people who now follow me. I also used a few growth hacking tricks which we will be sharing as an online course via Kikum Consulting soon. 7

WHAT IS THE UPTAKE AND GENERAL EYLTSEFIL AQUUV FEEL OF AFRICAN BRANDS, PRODUCTS AND BUSINESSES IN THE U.K? From my experience, most African Small Medium Enterprises in the UK are struggling with poor user experience and customer service, especially African Restaurants. Young African millennials are taking advantage of the internet and birthing promising vibrant African brands. However, creating a website and posting products is not enough. To strive in the UK or global market, our brands need better user experience, great customer service, quality products and an aggressive marketing plan. 8
