Hi, Welcome to nanta’s second issue! Traverse this month’s release with inspiration from mishan- dled youth and hesitation turning into explora- tion. We also tried to incorporate midsummer ambience through our film and music recom- mendations. We hope you find your own individ- uality flipping through these pages. Have fun.

CLAY Very little information out there I’ll hand you that - Clay is a band I’ve been listening to since 2015/16-ish - discovered with YouTube’s impressive algorithm (I thank the algorithm everyday). With only a few thousand views, they have to be the most underrated band out there; granted, only a few tracks produced in the first place, but I can guarantee those meagre pieces, are of the highest quality. I had lost track of them after sedentary activity but stumbled upon them again a few days ago - and boy did I end up having fun.

“By the time you read this letter, I may be dead.” If we were asked to describe Letter From an Unknown Woman in a few words, it would be: an elegantly orchestrated definition of forgotten love. This film entrancingly captures a simple plot, yet intricate and raw emotions interlaced. Criticized upon its release for being nothing more than a sentimental soap opera, the film is now considered one of the finest american romances of all time. Thanks to Academy award winner Howard Koch’s amorous screenplay, Mise-en-scène, period settings and carefully curated characters indulge in Max Ophuls’ intimate storylines. Narrated through the eyes of Lisa Berndle, the film follows her budding infatuation with her next door neighbour, Stefan Brand, a famous pianist in old Vienna. She falls in love with his playing and pries from afar, her childish innocence and naivety overtaking her emotions leading to the expense of her future; we see Lisa growing, forced to choose what she needs in opposition to what she wants. The plot oversees both perspectives, intertwining their relationship, befogging the audience of whether we’re following one plotline or the other, leading to multiple interpretations of the film - their once cherished and fervid familiarity might never rekindle again, no matter how hard they strive. Although black and white, this film gracefully portrays their love in the most vibrancy. While watching this classic, you’ll be greeted with a sense of longing nostalgia of your first love, as well as the complex emotions that follow it.
