IE2 NEWSQUARTERLYMAGAZINE JUNE 2016 ISSUE

“I appreciate LETTER FROM all that you are doing. THE PRESIDENT Go out there and continue The first half of the year is almost over, and it is a good time for some reflection to build our and some praise! We continue to build our backlog with some exciting projects. brand and We’ve had some unexpected wins and are in line to land a few more. There’s no make this time for complacency though, and our team is working hard to ensure we keep the best the right amount of work in front of us all. We’ve also been strengthening our construction staff to handle the workload with experienced PM’s and Superintendents. Most company of our hires have come from referrals from you and that is the best reference of a in Central prospective team member we can have! Texas!”   In 2016 we’ve expanded the office, rolled out company trucks, appointed Jarrod1 Indesign magazine template Dyer as CFO, are narrowing in on a new accounting system, and continue to look for land to house an eventual warehouse.   I have told everyone for two years we were locked in a lawsuit with an opportunistic doctor looking to take advantage of my trusting personality. We decided then not to stand up for ourselves in the face of injustice. I’ve never been sued before and I’ve never sued anyone myself, so this has been a weight on my shoulders and caused many sleepless nights. The arbitration is finally over and I’m happy to report the arbitrator has denied all of the claims against us! Tom Mravle has stood by me every step of the way and Joe Brooks provided wise counsel during the last year, and for that I am very grateful. I couldn’t have carried this burden without them.   We have also submitted for our first award ever, and have won the Austin Business Journal’s Best Place to Work! We’ll find out June 24th where exactly on the list we land. Regardless of where we land this is a proud moment in our history. I’m humbled by your support and I have a big shout out to Casey Lilley for initiating the submission. Even though we have won, I see lots of improvement we can make to make ourselves even better. I am excited to make this a better place to work tomorrow than it was yesterday!   I appreciate all that you are doing. Go out there and continue to build our brand and make this the best construction company in Central Texas!   Mike Nieft

“We deserve it. Everyone Good Evening San Diego, works hard and has a good I’m Ron burgundy. time doing it. It’s time for BREAKING NEWS: President and Owner of IE2 Construction, Inc., Mike Nieft, has turned 40 and other people to see what the company’s Tesla mascot is now back in action! We will now go to Veronica Corningstone we’ve got around here.” who is live at the IE2 Office: Mike Nieft “Thank you Ron. Ladies and Gentlemen I am here at the IE2 Office where tensions seem to be higher than normal. Busy as ever, the employees at IE2 have been in need of the team spiritCHANNEL 4 that comes along with the Tesla mascot and the enthusiasm of a 39 year old owner. NEWCAST Owner and President Mike Nieft is here with us now - “Texting and driving: It’s not a good idea.” Compelling stuff ladies and gentlemen. With Channel 4 news live, I’m Veronica Corningstone. Back to you Ron” Thank you Veronica, A channel 4 exclusive: Marketing Manager Leah Kenney has now undergone extensive training on operating the new company drone and has been deemed the nickname “broken wing” for breaking the drone before it was even airborne. Though it is a very exciting time for IE2, Kenney still has her doubts about operating this high tech machinery. The good news is Kenney has yet to kill anyone with the drone and claims she “hopes to keep it that way.” IE2 will now be able to take hi definition pictures of projects and company activities from an aerial angle - that is if Kenney can manage to keep the drone in working condition. More on this as it evolves, in the mean time – a hard hat at your desk or constantly on your head might not be a bad idea when the device finally goes air borne. In other news, two new summer interns have joined the IE2 team – even though their innocence and youth will be stolen from them through the actions of the employees at IE2 Construction, they still seem to be interested in what IE2 has going on. Jeffery Carlson and Sammy Jackens are learning day to day operations, how IE2 functions as a company and getting a feel for what the real business world is like. They are definitely drinking the punch over there – literally. The three pack is back! Project Managers Fey Carroll and the slightly impressive Bert Schnoebelen are working together to train new assistant project manager John (JJ) Lawrence. The three pack can be found strategizing together, learning new things and handling issues that arise - holding hands all the while. JJ has learned to take direction fairly well through sitting beside Carroll and taking advantage of her knowledge gained from the commencement of the strenuous and – for lack of a better word – complicated job in downtown Austin off of South Congress Avenue. This particular project drove one superintendent to the point where he hid inside a squirrel suit for an entire day wearing nothing but an IE2 t-shirt. The exclusive video of this can be found on IE2’s digital newsletter. None the less, the team strives for greatness daily and is learning how to work as a well-oiled machine. THE IE2OURNAMENTS HAVE ENDED – INDEFINTELY! After a few forfeits and with Senior Project Manager, Steven Hesch winning most of the games, participants were intimidated by his intelligent strategies and overwhelmingly large muscles – this played a big part in forcing a win over his opponents. The IE2ournaments will continue at a later date. A huge congratulation is in order for the entire IE2 team for winning Austin Business Journals “Best Places to Work” – We had an exclusive interview with President Mike Nieft who was simply over the moon, “We deserve it. Everyone works hard and has a good time doing it. It’s time for other people to see what we’ve got around here.” Well that’s all for tonight everyone – from all of us here at Channel 4 news, I’m Ron Burgundy, you stay classy San Diego.

MEET OUR SAMMY JACKENSNEW INTERN • What led you to an internship at IE2 Construction?  Greg introduced me to the construction industry a few years ago when we were talking at a dinner party of his. He told me about his previous work and what his job entails. I was immediately intrigued and wanted to learn more, which is what led me to change my major to Construction Science & Management. More recently, we were talking about his job here at IE2 and how much he enjoyed the company. He told me to email my resume to him and said he’ll try to set up an interview with Mike. Everything worked out perfectly and Mike was generous enough to offer me a summer internship. I wouldn’t be where I am without Greg, and could not ask for a better company to work with. • What is the most important skill or experience you are hoping to gain from your summer internship with IE2?  To gain a better understanding of the estimating and operations side of the construction industry. • What would you say is your favorite part about working with IE2 so far?  The people that work here. The office is a very fun environment and everyone seems to get along really well. Everyone has been patient with me and are willing to take the time to answer any questions I may have. • What’s your favorite sports team if you have one? Dallas Cowboys • Tell us something that might surprise us about you?  I played golf with Jordan Spieth my junior year of high school at regionals. • What is your personal philosophy?  Only work ethic stands between you and your dreams. • Who has been your biggest mentor?  John and Tim both have been great mentors. They have taught me a lot about estimating and have kept me involved in every step of the bidding process. • Favorite motto/quote?  “Strength does not come from winning. Your struggles develop your strengths. When you go through hardships and decide not to surrender, that is strength.” – Arnold Schwarzenegger

MEET OUR JEFFREY CARLSONNEW INTERN • What led you to an internship at IE2 Construction?  I met Mike through my Dad’s architecture firm (Cornerstone Group Architects and after catching a glimpse of IE2  I wanted to come learn from the company. • What drew you to the construction field?  Growing up I loved walking the job sites of my dad’s designs. After learning how architects think I’m gonna steer completely clear of that. (Seeing the buildings actually come to life than trying to draw them up was a much better option.) • What are you objectives/ goals/desired outcomes for this internship?  I would love to walk away with some experience in various trades, as well as try to help the team out in the field in any way possible, even if that means pickingup nails on the pavement or washing cars. • What’s your favorite sports team if you have one?  Growing up in Austin there’s only one team to root for, but Mike might say otherwise. Since grade school I’ve been an avid UT sports fan. Going to school there is just a perk. • Tell us something really interesting about yourself?  I’ve been to almost every national park in the country and hope to complete the list by the time I graduate. Is that interesting? I guess so... I’ve also never broken a bone in my body *knock on wood* (though that might change after this summer haha). • What do you like to do in your free time?  Anything outside- golf, run, hike, wakeboard, etc. I also really like reading an seeing movies. • What does true leadership mean to you?  True leadership to me is not exactly one definition, but rather an action. An ongoing action of taking initiative and being an example for those who choose to follow you.
