Underground Turnstile Cover2016/17 01
Commissioned by one of the world-leaders formobile ticketing, this project was a redesign ofthe underground turnstile top-cover for a majorcity in the United States. Responsible for themechanical design, this challenging andcomplex project involved working closely withthe electronics engineering team, to design aunit that enclosed and supported theelectronics and robust LCD display consideringchallenging DFM and cost targets. Thisinvolved extensive, complex plastic and alloycomponent-level CAD design and the full CADassembly of the turnstile top. Responsible forregular client design reviews, progress reports, liaison with the customers supply chain andensuring the project remained on cost andschedule targets.
Bus Ticket Validator2017 03
Following the success of the Underground Turnstile Top project, themobile ticketing company commissioned PDC with the Bus Scannerdesign. Involved from the outset my responsibility was Project andDesign Manager. Initially I worked closely with the client to capturedesign requirements, establish budgets and project timescales.Project management responsibility included monitoring progress andcosts against plan and providing weekly progress reports.Responsibility extended to supply chain coordination includingleading a trip to Shenzhen, China, to identify, audit and negotiatewith potential suppliers and tool rooms whilst also ensuring suppliershave a full appreciation for the design and specifications. Headingup the design team, I was responsible for the enclosure designachieving all client design requirements including minimising partcount and complexity relative to the original design concept toachieve cost targets.
JCB - Weighloader2016 05
The ‘Weighloader’ project wascommissioned to PDC by Prolec for JCB.The device allows drivers to safely operateheavy loads. Project responsibility washanded to me at the start of the toolingstage with responsibility of coordinating thesupply chain between the tool room and theend client, whilst also maintaining toolingdrawings and 3D models in SolidWorks inresponse to tooling improvements. As tooltrials were taking place, I was responsible forthe Quality Assurance to ensure that theparts conformed to contractualspecifications and quality requirementsincluding dimensional tolerance and surfacefinish.
GURU Systems - Energy Meter2014/15 07
The Guru Systems product is a pay-as-you-go smart energy meter, with which Iwas involved during my industrialplacement year with PDC. My role in theproject was to adapt and develop theCAD drawings after having conferred withsenior colleagues. Once tooling wascomplete, I had a pivotal role inmaintaining Quality Assurance andcarrying out ISIR Reports. I was theninvolved in sub-assembly of the plasticcomponents, for which I was required toadhere to assembly procedures. Thisenabled me to truly appreciate theimportance of design for assembly.
FoodClip2016 09
As part of my final project in my BScHonours Product Design degree, Idesigned the Food Clip. The principlebehind the Food Clip was to minimiseday-to-day food waste in the averagehousehold, through a series of digital clips, which allowed the user to catalogueperishable food items. The clips wouldthen communicate via Bluetooth/mobileinternet with an application on thesmartphone, reminding users of upcominguse-by dates in their refrigerator orcupboard. It was necessary to follow theUniversity’s stringent end-to-end designprocess, through concept generation, ideation and prototyping.

I led the projectfrom PDS to final product in under three months, which developed my skills in budgeting and keepingto stringent time scales. A challenging aspect of theproject was positioning sensors in specific locations, whilst adhering to plastic design guidelines.
Valves & Fittings2014/18 13
Throughout my time at PDC, I have successfulcompleted a variety of small design andtooling design projects including valves, adaptors, bungs and fittings for various repeatcustomers. I was able to work with a widerange of materials for an assortment offunctions, which developed my skills inpolymer materials and moulding capabilities.
Development Injection-Mould Tooling2014/18 15
During my time at PDC, I have workedon numerous prototype injection mouldtools, which were run in-house toprovide clients with small batches ofparts in the real material. I personallydesigned multiple injection mould toolsincluding ejection systems and spruedesign, checking parts and tools fordraft, thickness and undercuts, as wellas running mould flow simulations toensure the tools would fill correctly. I alsohave experience running the mouldmachine, which developed my thoroughunderstanding of injection moulding, anddesign for injection moulding, to apply tolarger projects.
LED Christmas light2017 17
The LED Christmas light was a small projectcommissioned by Sancho, an authentic Japanesehome ware manufacturer, whose aim was to convertmains-powered lamps into modern battery poweredLED lamps. I was responsible for developing andadapting the existing design of the lamp to create atwo-part casing and wire frame design, from initialspecification through to final product.
