SAMPIRUHAN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL Cluster 3, Division of Calamba City Grade Learning Activity Sheet CONTENT STANDARD The learners demonstrate the understanding of grouping different materials based on their properties; changes that materials undergo when exposed to certain conditions. PERFORMANCE STANDARD The learners should recognize and practice proper handling of products; evaluate whether changes in materials are useful or harmful to one’s environment.

INTRODUCTORY MESSAGE Welcome to Science-Grade 4! The Learning Activity Sheet is self-directed instructional material aimed to guide the learners in accomplishing activities at their own pace and time using the contextualized resources in the community. This will also assist the learners in acquiring lifelong learning skills, knowledge, and attitudes for productivity and employment. For the learning facilitator: The Electronic Learning Activity Sheet in Science helps you facilitate the teaching-learning activities specified in Most Essential Learning Competency (MELC). This will be made available to the learners who are at-risk in Science subjects from Grade 3 to 6 identified learners who are part of the project E- LAS and Gamified App together with Project PRISE. For the learner: The Electronic Learning Activity Sheet in Science is developed to help you continue learning. This learning material provides you with meaningful and engaging activities for independent learning. Being an active learner, carefully read and understand the instructions then perform the activities and answer the assessments. This will be checked by your facilitator on the agreed schedule. Gamified app of activities was also provided to help you go through the lesson. Enjoy learning!
Science Activity Sheet No. 1 Title: MATERIALS THAT ABSORB WATER I. Learning Competency Classify materials based on the ability to absorb water (S4MT-1a-1.1) II. Background Information for Learners Things around us have different characteristics. Each thing or material has its own color, size, weight, texture and smell. There are materials that when put into water absorbs it. It is because these materials are porous or having small or tiny holes that allow air or liquid to pass through. There are also non-porous materials which do not allow air or liquid to pass through. MATERIALS THAT MATERIALS THAT ABSORB WATER: DO NOT ABSORB WATER: cotton balls tissue plastic spoon floor mat rubber slipper basketball Materials around us can be classified according to their properties such as their ability to absorb water. Some materials can absorb water more than others.
III. Activity Proper Direction: Look at the pictures below. Select the check mark (/) if the material absorbs water and cross mark (X) if it does not absorb water. 1. t-shirt 2. 2. hangers 3. boots 4. sponge 5. mop
IV. REFLECTION In this activity, the learners will learn to classify whether a material can absorb water. Giving examples within learners' context can help them relate to the lesson and activity. V.
