About Our Company - A Tradition of Accuracy and Enjoyment Revell and Monogram companies have been entertaining, inspiring and educating modelers for over 70 years. The longevity of Revell Group brands is a testament to the popularity of detailed plastic models that are affordably priced! Launched in 1943, Revell initially produced a wide range of products, including ladies’ compacts, train sets, scale buildings and “action pull toys” recreating some of America’s most popular automobiles. However, the brand found its niche with a line of fast-building “Highway Pioneers” plastic model car kits in the early 1950s. After their success, Revell focused exclusively on making models that were as authentic as they were enjoyable. When Monogram was founded in 1945, the industry was revolutionized with models featuring prefabricated wood parts for easier assembly. Ships and airplanes were the brand’s most popular subjects. In the early 1950s, Monogram shifted gears to all-plastic construction with a lineup of car kits. They sold like gangbusters, establishing Monogram as the brand to beat for automotive models. Revell and Monogram were competitors for the next three decades, providing the industry with a rare, friendly rivalry. In 1986, something unexpected happened—both brands were united in a merger. Bringing the Revell and Monogram names together was a no-brainer, as evidenced by the continued popularity of our kits. In 2007, Revell Inc. was purchased by Hobbico , one of the world’s largest manufacturers, distributors and retailers of model hobby products. It marked the start ® of an exciting new era. Today, Revell is committed to creating new and exciting products for its customers. We are the only model kit company with a line designed for hobbyists as young as age six—SnapTite Build & Play kits. We also team with numerous licensed ™ ® entities, including Star Wars . Our continuing initiative is to develop new tooling that is suitable for hobbyists of all skill ™ levels, from the youngest to the most advanced. Revell carries on the tradition of accuracy in plastic models and providing a challenging and enjoyable pastime for all model hobby enthusiasts. About the Revell brands: Model kits produced by the Monogram company. Monogram merged with Revell in 1986 and the model kits are still released under that brand today. The Monogram continues to be a name that the model building enthusiast, as well as hobby dealers, can depend on for unique subject matter and high quality model kits. These kits feature recessed panel lines and bagged clear parts for added protection. They include multiple sets of authentically matched silkscreen decals along with a comprehensive instruction booklet containing historical facts and detailled finishing techniques. In 1957 Ed Roth, along with Tom Kelly and Bud “The Baron” Crozier, opened a shop in South Gate, CA and began pin striping cars. He was also hard at work making his first all-out show hot rod. Once Ed started winning awards at car shows, he caught the eye of Revell, who thought they would make a great subjects for model kits. Revell felt that Ed needed a catchy nickname.
