1. Embroidery Embroidery is the craft of decorating fabric or other materials using a needle to apply thread or yarn. Em- broidery may also incorporate other materials such as pearls, beads, quills, and sequins. Embroidery is available with a wide variety of thread or yarn colour. The basic stitches are running,back,satin,chain,fish- bone, blanket, frenchknot stitches. SUSHMITHA N | TEXTILE DESIGN | PORTFOLIO
2. Tie & dye Tie and dye is an ancient resist dyeing technique. The pro- cess of tie and dye typically consists of folding, twisting, crumpling or pleating a fabric and then dying it, that pro- duces different textures through dyes. Thefabrics are tied through threads or rubber bands; and these manipula- tions prior to the application of dyeing, are called resists. These resists partially or completely prevent the dye from coloring the fabric. SUSHMITHA N | TEXTILE DESIGN | PORTFOLIO

3. Patch work The theme of patch work is inspired from sea- shore, where the land meets water. As patch work is all about joining two pieces of fabrics , and bringing a flow in the textile. So i thought of rec- reating the seashore as patch work beacuse the seashore is a natural patch work initsef..The sea- shore has different layers of water , its gradation , sand , sea spray , texture and the waves .These different layers can be interpreted in fabrics and combined together. The shapes and layout of the patch work will be taken from the elements of seashore like lines ,layer ,waves ,seasprays ,water and sand texture ,swirls. 4. Fabric manupulation The aim of the project is to bring the texture of the tree bark on to the fabric by manupulating it . I used the trees in my college campus as an inspiration and tried to manupulate it in the fabric by using different techniques. The techniques used to bring the textures are tucking , pleating , slashing, shirring ,cording , stuffing and reverse applique. Both 2D and 3D structure are made using these techniques. The fabrics are selected according to the colour of the tree barks. SUSHMITHA N | TEXTILE DESIGN | PORTFOLIO
