How is my opinion writing? Did I write like a fifth grader? YES! NO Introduction I clearly introduced my topic in an engaging way by asking a question, explaining why the topic mattered, telling a surprisingWriting Structure & Organization fact, or giving background information. I provided a strongly stated opinion or claim. Development & Organization I logically grouped information and related ideas into paragraphs. I Elaboration of Ideas Transitions I put the parts of my writing in the order that most suited my Conclusion purpose and helped me link my opinion with my reasons. Elaboration I used words, phrases, and clauses to connect my reasons back to my opinion. (e.g., for instance, in order to, in addition, consequently, specifically, another example.) I wrote an ending for my piece in which I restated and reflected on my opinion, perhaps suggesting an action or response based on what I had written. . I gave logically ordered reasons that convincingly support my opinions. I supported my reasons with facts and details from texts. I included evidence such as facts, examples, information, and/or quotations.Language Task Focus My whole piece stays focused on my task or prompt. Conventions & Word Choice Vocabulary I used strong words, phrases, and clauses correctly to bring my Punctuation writing to life. Before I wrote my final draft I checked to make sure I used punctuation correctly (capitalization, commas, quotations, etc.) Spelling Before I wrote my final draft I checked to make sure all my Sentence words were spelled correctly or I consulted references to help Fluency me spell words I wasn’t sure about.
