นิทานเรื่อง แอนโดรเคิลกับสิงโต (Androcles and the Lion) A slave named Androcles once escaped from his master and fled to the forest. As he was wandering about there he came upon a lion lying down moaning and groaning. ทาสคนหนึ่งมีนามว่า อันโดรเคิลส์ ครั้งหนึ่งเคยหนีเข้าไปหลบอยู่ในป่า ในขณะที่เขาเดินเตร่ไปมา อยู่แถวนั้น เขาได้ไปพบกับสิงโตตัวหนึ่งกำลังนอนร้องครวญครางอยู่

He pulled out the torn and bound up the paw of the lion, who was soon able to rise and lick the hand of Androcles like a dog. เขาดึงหนามนั้นออกมาจากอุ้งเท้าของสิงโต แล้วพันแผลที่อุ้งเท้าของ สิงโตเอาไว้ ซึ่งในไม่ช้ามันก็ลุกขึ้นได้ และเลียมือของอันโดรเคิลส์ ราวกับสุนัข

Soon the lion was let loose from his den and rushed bounding and roaring toward its victim, but as soon as he come near to Androcles he recognized his friend, and fawned upon him, and licked his hands like a friendly dog. อันโดรเคิลส์ได้ถูกนำออกมาที่กลางสังเวียน ขณะนั้นสิงโต ก็ถูกปล่อยออกมาจากคอกที่ขังไว้ มันวิ่งออกมาในสนาม พร้อมกับคำรามใส่เหยื่อของมัน แต่เมื่อมันได้เข้ามาใกล้อัน โดรเคิลส์ มันก็จำสหายเก่าของมันได้ มันจึงกระดิกหางเข้า คลอเคลีย และเลียมือของเขาเหมือนหมาที่เป็นเพื่อนกัน

The Emperor, surprised at his, summoned Androcles to him, who told him the whole story. พระเจ้าจักพรรดิซึ่งจึงสงสัยในสิ่งที่เกิดขึ้น จึงเรียกให้อันโดรเคิลส์ เข้าไป หาพระองค์ ซึ่งอันโดรเคิลส์ได้เล่าเรื่องทั้งหมดให้พระองค์ฟัง Whereupon the slave was pardoned and freed, and the lion let loose to his native forest. เมื่อพระองค์ได้ฟังดังนั้น ผู้เป็นทาสจึงได้รับการอภัยโทษ และถูกปล่อยตัว ให้เป็นอิสระ และสิงโต ก็ได้ถูกปล่อยให้กลับสู่ป่าอันเป็นถิ่นฐานของมัน
