You cannot swim for new horizons until you dare to lose sight of the shore.” Hardships and pain are a part of life but very few dares to ac- cept them and do something meaningful with their lives. Facing the harsh realities and challenges that life throws at you shows who you are. Be it in your personal or profes- sional life, the only thing which makes you stand out is your determination and perse- verance. His life was never easy. Childhood was not something he enjoyed much. He was taken to his maternal uncle's house in Delhi when he was six months old. His mother used to own a confectionery shop. Soon he found himself cleaning the shop's utensils at an age when he was supposed to play with toys. From childhood until adolescence, carrying out obligations was all that he knew and amidst all this, he couldn't even recall when he had lost his innocence. GLOBAL ACHIEVERS MAGAZINE JUNE , 2022 | 3

His elementary education was not proper. He used to open books and read whenever he had the opportunity, as well as earn money by peddling prod- ucts. He sold taffy, lemon juice tablets in various colors, marbles, kites, and crackers. He worked as a laborer at times and did odd jobs at other times. Growing up he couldn't afford to attend school hence, went to night school and received education till eleventh grade. In this manner, he completed his schooling. He strived alone to survive and make a name for himself defying the discouragement society put him through. GLOBAL ACHIEVERS MAGAZINE JUNE , 2022 | 4

He worked hard no doubt but made the best of the opportunity when it pre- sented itself in front of him. He started property work, cut plots, and earned some money. To try his luck, he relocated to Mumbai. He tried getting roles in movies with whatever he had earned up to that point. But alas! All of the money on hand was squandered. He was back to square one. The days of poverty had returned. Again, he worked hard and started from scratch, and kept moving forward. Soon by god's grace, he opened a welding & Safety business by work- ing day and night. GLOBAL ACHIEVERS MAGAZINE He spent a lot of time in the factory and soon started making industrial safety devices. Along with this, he began pro- ducing electric welding equipment and its components. Now he has 2 manufac- turing units named Paras Polycab pri- vate limited and Prima Weld Safe private limited. He believes in Dharma and Karma works. He had recently contributed in building the roof of a temple in Trinagar, as well as a cham- ber and a Dharamshala. JUNE , 2022 | 5

Even during the pandemic he volunteered and did whatever was in his power to help the people. From distributing free masks to giving full salaries even though some people were unable to work to provide them food, he did every bit of it. He believes all of this is a gift from God and he is thankful for his grace upon him. He is also part of a few social groups which help people in need. All this not only helped him prove himself worthy but also helped him become a better person. He received the Atal Samman award from the Parliament for his impeccable contri- butions to the society and nation. His principle was simple, just believe in yourself and be kind to others. He is Dr. Ashok Kumar B. Gupta, who teaches free of cost to those who can’t afford it while providing free study materials and uniforms. Born in 1973, he is a teacher with 30 years of experience, excelling in the subject of maths. He arranges outings to places with historical significance and provides children with general knowledge along with physical. He also spreads aware- ness of the benefits of gaining edu- cation to adults, mainly parents. He started his mission to provide education to children while study- ing to earn his diploma in educa- tion, placing First in all of Mumbai. He graduated from Vivekanand Ed- ucation Society and has a Degree in Science, Postgraduate in Hindi, and Mathematics from Mumbai University with first position. JUNE , 2022 | 7

He tried his hand in the textile industry, completing his studies at Sasmira In- stitute of Man-Made Textile, Worli, Mumbai, but found his calling in the field of education. He completed his B. Ed from Chembur Comprehensive College of Education with second position and earned a PH.D. in Education Manage- ment from Swahili University, Panama, USA. He is a Vocational Speaker, a Mo- tivational Speaker, a Business Speaker, and an International Speaker, helping children all over in making headway towards their dreams. Dr. Ashok Gupta is a maths pro- fessor at college and held classes after school where he provided free schooling to those children of families from below the poverty line while taking a nominal fee (₹350/month) from those families who can afford it. Many raised ob- jections to his way of doing things yet he prevailed and continued his mission of educating the children. The earned money is used towards furthering the coaching of chil- dren as well as to buy materials and uniforms. The field trips that are planned, are always educa- tional in environment, and history. Ashok also put emphasis on phys- ical education along with mental. With a noble goal in his heart and his parents’ support at his back, he moved forward and built a school in slums, Mankhurd, Mandala (Mumbai -43) in 2000. With over 450 children under his wings, he hired teachers and continued giving remedial lessons to those in need after school. Simultaneously, Ashok Gupta balanced his day job and school in tandem, living his dream of changing India for the better, of making a change. Every year, students, together with Ashok, plant 100 oxygen Trees around the school. For his pure intentions, he received many awards. In 2015, his name was registered in the Guinness Book of Records for holding a drawing compe- tition for 1 Lakh poor students simultaneously. In 2021, he was named in the O. M. G. Book of World Records as well as got a training organized by ISRO, providing an opportunity to impart knowledge to children. He is quite active in govt. projects relating to cleanliness as well, such as Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. He also takes part in public awareness campaigns like Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, organizes street plays with children to Make Society To- bacco Free, Plastic Free India, etc. He also started an educational newspaper called ‘Vidyalaya Darpan’ which consists of information regarding the environ- ment, general knowledge, children’s projects, etc. During the Pandemic, he provided free education to chil- dren Online and Offline while helping clean the garbage of the streets. Spending his full expenditure turning India Clean & Green. He also planted trees to better the cli- mate. He also wrote a book, ‘Nau Ratan’ meaning 9 Gems. Dr. Ashok Gupta chose 9 inspiring people of India, whose impact has made signif- icant changes, and wrote the book. Dr. Ashok Gupta plans on keep ex- panding his mission to provide free education to all. He wishes to build colleges and hostels for children to provide them all a chance that they june never have gotten due to circum- stances. PRAVEEN KUMAR VERMA SOCIAL SERVICE “BE SOMEONE’S SUNSHINE AND YOU NEVER KNOW IT TURNS TO BE A RAINBOW SOMEDAY” Persistence, Perseverance, and Polite- ness are the 3Ps needed to rise above those challenges and begin the change. There is such a person, who started with nothing and earned everything, he is Praveen Kumar Verma, Director of Verma Path Labs, Sonipat. He com- pleted his schooling at S.M. Hindu, Senior Secondary School, as a straight- A student, as well as, is a Delhi Univer- sity Graduate with a Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology with a full scholarship. In an English medium college with no basis, Praveen went full force into his studies, learning the lan- guage at such a fast pace, that soon enough his classmates were asking for his help in translating notes. Ever since childhood, Praveen Verma has been quite fascinated with helping others, he would visit different slums and volunteer himself for projects. Ac- cording to him, “A child born on the sidewalk does know anything nor does he owe anything, whereas a child born in the mansion has everything. GLOBAL ACHIEVERS MAGAZINE JUNE , 2022 | 20

If the child born in the mansion held out his hand to the child born on the sidewalk, help them gain skills that will help them make a living, give them an opportunity to improve their lifestyle, to provide their family with stability then no one would ever sleep hungry neither would there be a need to beg.” With this thought in mind, Verma started a Mission to help the people of the slums, named “Hath Fela Ke Nahi, Hath Chala Ke,” where he would lend a Sewing Machine to the women for 6 months, during which he would teach them, provide the business, and help them build a clientele. Praveen Kumar Verma led a difficult life, thus now when he sees a person struggling, he cannot help but relate to them, wanting nothing more than to ease their pain. He does not wish for children to struggle as he did in life, to have difficulty in obtaining a job. He wants children to know kindness before cruelty. His first job at Chauhan Hos- pital, where he earned ₹1000, which after two-year services was increased to ₹1500. With his mother’s declining health, he soon married and decided to take on a Govt. Job. With a stable job, Praveen became complacent in his role for a while, the one to disparage him of the notion was his fa- ther, who suggested to him to open his own testing labs. Despite recent success, the labs were at loss, thus Praveen decided to take an- other step to further his clien- tele. About 6 months later, a rather reputed doctor opened his own hospital nearby. With his preparations and fore- sight, he won over the doctor, who helped his labs become great and dependable. “EVERY PERSON LIVES ONLY ONCE, SO JUNE AS WELL LIVE A MEANING- FUL LIFE, SHARING THE HAPPINESS AND SHOUL- DERING OTHER’S SOR- ROW.” With this motto in his heart and his family, acquaintances, and well-wishers at his back, Praveen founded Safe India Foundation, an organization committed to serving the people and the nation, to help the needy and motivate them to stand on their own feet. He also joined more than 50 religious and social organizations, as well as is an active member and trustee in over 10 organizations. Always willing to lend a hand in need. In times of crisis, the Safe India foundation has fed more than 200 fami- lies’ stomachs. Those in need of medical help do get assistance from the Govt. but what about when their body does not have the nutrients to heal. Poor families have a hard time obtaining food, thus to support them, for the last 4 years, they have been providing 3 meals per day to those admit- ted into Govt. Hospitals along with destitute and needy. During Covid Lockdown, they fed more than 6 lakhs people, further- more, the labs were provided to the researchers free of cost for the RTPCR Tests. This founda- tion also contributes to girls’ marriages in abundance, with- out any credit. For all Praveen Verma is content with his achievements till now, there are still many milestones to overturn. With a promise to al- ways help if asked and never turn away a person in need, he vows to keep working to new horizons and help even more people in every possible way. DHARMENDRA SHAH NATURE CAGE-FREE BHOPAL “BHOPAL HAS BECOME THE FIRST CITY IN INDIA TO BE CALLED CAGE-FREE. SOON, THERE WILL BE NO CAGE IN INDIA” Did you know? Bhopal had the biggest market for birds in India; it closed last year with Bhopal becoming the first city in India that said ‘NO’to cages. This is the result of years of hard work and determination. Late. Laxmi Shah started a thought that no bird should have its freedom stolen, living inside a cage. She would buy these poor creatures and set them free. Watching this, grew up, her son, Dharmendra Shah, born on 1st June 1985. He is a business- man, owner of Chain Restaurants in Bhopal, fa- mous for their authentic food. After his mother’s death, he started a project focused on rescuing these birds trapped in their cages, named “Mis- sion Pankh”. Many people have helped him on his journey. His mentor, Shri Vinod Kumar Jain, has been by his side, every step of the way since this project started. His wife, Jay Shri Shah, went together with him, shop to shop, rang the doorbell of every door, to spread awareness of the wrongdoing that is putting birds in cages. He also has three brilliant successors, Raj, Laksh, and Jay, who also work hard for this mission and will be taking this mission even further. His childhood friend, Sajan Mathew, who started the second branch of this cause in Hyderabad Dharmendra Shah has also only used the profits from his business to further this cause, never accepting a single rupee from anyone else. Regrettably, there are some birds which are can- not return to wild, due to age or injury. For this tragedy, they try to make the cage more comfort- able, by making it bigger and educating their fam- ilies about their care. “CAN YOU BUY LIFE? YOU CAN’T. THEN HOW CAN YOU PUT A PRICE ON ANOTHER BEING’S LIFE?” – Vinod Kumar Jain Now, he is not calling these owners bad or doubt- ing their love for their pets. It is not a matter of love but freedom and while decorated, a cage is a cage. For ex- ample – Par- rots. They are highly demanded pets due to their ability to mimic the sounds they hear. Yet, a par- rot only lives up to 10 years inside the cage, de- spite having a lifespan of 45 years. Every person who joined Mission Pankh has worked tirelessly for its high purpose and has saved over 30,000 lives in the last 25 years alone. Mission Pankh has been recorded in over 48 World Records and has over 200 awards to its name, including being felicitated by CM Shiv- raj Singh Chouhan and Governor Anandiben Patel. Mission Pankh has a following of over 7 million people, including Ravish Kumar, Senior Executive Editor of NDTV India, as well as, CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Governor Anandiben Patel, joined together to save these innocent creatures. Many clinical studies across the world have proved that Angioplasty/Bypass Sur- gery gives no extra benefit compared to medical treatment in many patients with Blockage in Heart and that its results are almost equal to that of medical treatment or sometimes even inferior to that of medical treatment. This is the only reason American heart association & American college of cardiology have made some guidelines in favour of medical treatment which every doctor should follow. Due to these Guidelines only recently in America, Angioplasty/Bypass Surgery has been reduced to the tune of 40% which is a remarkable figure. Dr. D. K. Gupta was the Cardiologist & Physician of Sahib Singh Verma, Chief Minister of Delhi. He was awarded National Medical Award by Shri Prakash Jaiswal, Ex-Union Minister of Govt of India by Manav Utahan Seva Samiti (MUSS), as well as an Award of Senior Research Associate, Award of Panel Doc- tor, and Distinguished Humanity Services Award by Delhi Medical Association (DMA).
