Training can be adapted to suit your diary, but it is advisable to do full day training sessions to maximise your learning experience. We feel it’s important to split your training days. You could do one or two lessons every week, instead of cramming it in as an intensive course. This has been an extremely valuable and an important learning process for many of our customers, who have gone on to pass their motorcycle tests on their first attempt. If you don’t understand the process or know which route you should take, please get in touch. We offer flexible training programmes, which we class as pay-as-you-go. We steer you away from intensive courses because it puts too much pressure on you to pass your tests within a limited timeframe. Being on a bike for 5-6 consecutive days when you are not used to it can be taxing on your body and mind! If you do not take to riding that well, you will not be ready for the test and will have wasted your money. NB. *There are some loopholes and strange rules and regulations. If you have a query we will be more than happy to answer any questions. Important CBT Guidance It is a legal requirement to complete a CBT prior to riding a motorcycle, you must either hold a provisional or full car licence. You must be able to ride a bicycle and have done so recently, this is for balance and control. If you can’t ride a bicycle you must learn to ride one before you book in and attempt to ride a motorcycle. A CBT is at least a full one day course, it covers key areas and is a continuous assessment of your ability. If you do not reach the safe standard required in one day, you will need to book further training to complete the course (known as a Comeback). You can do a CBT from the age of 16 years old* but this must be done on a 50cc machine (geared or automatic). From 17 years upwards you are able to ride a 125cc bike. Once you have your certificate you are valid to ride for 2 years with L plates displayed, you can’t carry passengers and can’t ride on the motorway. If you don’t pass a motorcycle test within the two years, you must redo a CBT course. NB. *Please note if you are 16 years old we only have 125cc geared bikes so you would need to provide your own bike to train with us. CBT DAS & Test | Everything you need to know 7
Our CBT and Taster Courses Before you are legal to ride a motorcycle on the road you must complete the CBT course. Unfortunately the CBT course has been sold as an easy one day course by some training schools for many years. The truth is it is a demanding training course and requires you to demonstrate a good level of skill for each exercise. If you are a practical person or have prior riding experience, a one day course is within some people’s reach. However, if you have never ridden before, you should consider a two or two and a half day CBT. This slows the pace down meaning you get thorough guidance, this training is far more relaxed and bespoke to your individual needs. Learning to ride a motorcycle is not easy and not everyone is capable of learning how to ride in one day. Simon in action during a CBT PRE - CBT Taster Session If you are a novice rider and want to experience riding for the first time without any pressure, we recommend that you start with our 90 minute taster session. This will allow you to ‘try before you buy.’ You will also get to meet some of our friendly team and experience the quality of training we deliver before you commit to a CBT. This is a great way to start if you are nervous or have never ridden before. CBT DAS & Test | Everything you need to know 8
CBT - 1 Day Course Our one day courses are in line with the industry standard course. These can be extremely demanding for riders with no previous experience. If you do not learn new skills quickly or find practical skills difficult, we do not recommend this course to you. If you want to enroll on a one day course and do not have previous riding experience, please select to train on a weekday. Our weekday training site is extremely large and is ideal for novice riders to learn without any restrictions. If you have previous riding experience or are renewing your CBT you can book a weekend training date. Our training area on a weekend is ideal for riders who can already ride. The training area is much smaller. Please do not book a weekend CBT course if you cannot ride a motorcycle prior to attending (you may not finish and will have to rebook - which will cost you more money). One day CBT Training CBT - 2 Day Course Our two day CBT courses are for people who want to slow the process down and learn at a more convenient pace. This allows the skills to be taught, learned and set properly so that riding becomes second nature. When the skills are learned at a slower pace, there is less risk and a better standard of riding is achieved. This is because we can dedicate more time to develop your riding skills, this allows a more thorough training programme to be delivered. It gives you time to learn and think about things overnight before you return on the following day. These training courses run on a Sunday and Monday. CBT DAS & Test | Everything you need to know 9
CBT - 2 ½ Day Course This CBT Course is extremely popular for riders who want to take their time and really get the best out of a training programme. The extra half day training allows you to have a 4 hour pre-CBT training session to allow you time to learn without any pressure at all. You’ll spend the extra time riding and learning how to ride, without actually starting the CBT until the second day. This allows you to remove any self induced pressure and enjoy the day rather than feeling like you’ll never be able to do it. This really allows you to slow it all down to your own pace. The best thing about this course is that we separate the training days. This allows you to go away and do some home study or extra practice on a pushbike if necessary before you return to complete the course. 2-and-a-half- day CBT Training Training for the Motorcycle Tests If you want to ride without L Plates, you will need to continue with further training towards passing both motorcycle tests. We have been training learner riders over three decades and have thorough training plans in place that help to give you everything you need to pass. We use the Garretts Green test centre to practice Mod 1 test skills prior to you taking your test. This gives you confidence as you won’t feel like you have been dropped in at the deep end when we take you to test. You will be familiar with the whole test routine and it will feel far less stressful. The dedicated Mod 2 training that we deliver, will ensure you are test ready. We will cover all aspects of the Mod 2 criteria before the actual test day, so that you are mentally and physically prepared. CBT DAS & Test | Everything you need to know 10
HAzARDModule 1 Motorcycle TestACtICE You will take the Module 1 Motorcycle Test in an off-road Motorcycle Manoeuvring Area (MMA). You are allocated 30 minutes to do the test but it generally only takes about 20 minutes to complete and includes the following exercises: • Wheeling the bike and using the stand • Slalom, Fig-8, Slow control ride and U turn • Cornering and a controlled stop, an emergency stop and hazard avoidance exercise You must complete and pass all exercises to gain a Mod 1 pass certificate. Test nerves can play a huge role in not feeling ready but with our training programme you will know exactly what to do before your actual test. Being familiar with what to do is the reason our first time pass rate is higher than 90%. AvOIDAnCE PR MOD1 P R AC t I C E CBT DAS & Test | Everything you need to know 11
Module 2 Motorcycle Test After you have passed the Mod 1 test we will book you in for a specific Mod 2 training day. This allows us to dedicate a training session for you that will prepare you for the test. We will take you around the areas used on the test, show you where people have tripped up in the past and put you through a mock test to fully prepare you for the final leg of your journey. We do not advise you to book the Module 1 and Module 2 tests on the same day. If you fail the Mod 1 test you will lose your Mod 2 test fee. This will be a waste of your time and money. Even if you decide to train with another organisation, do not be talked into taking both tests close together and risk losing your test fee. The Mod 2 is a pursuit type test where the examiner follows you on a motorcycle to watch how you ride throughout the test. You are allocated 57 minutes to complete this test but it generally takes 40-45 minutes. The test includes an eyesight check, motorcycle and pillion passenger safety questions. You’ll ride on a variety of road types and in different traffic conditions that demonstrate your riding ability. This does not include the motorway but you will cover normal stops, an angle start, a hill start where possible and 10 minutes of independent riding. This is to assess your ability to ride safely whilst making your own decisions. Once complete you will receive a Mod 2 pass certificate, you will also get an email with a test report outlining any faults you may have made. You’ll be able to ride a motorcycle straight away without L Plates. Your pass certificate is proof that you have passed the motorcycle test, until your full driving licence arrives by post. Highway Code & Theory Test You must have a good knowledge of the Highway Code and understanding of how to use the road prior to booking any training. Your on- road training will be terminated if you don’t know how to use the road safely. Before you can take any of the Module 1 or Module 2 motorcycle tests, you must have taken and passed the motorcycle theory test. If you do not hold or have not booked a theory test, please start this process straight away so that you can arrange your training around the theory test date. To book a theory test contact the DVSA on 0300 200 1122 or make a booking online from the DVSA website. Clothing and Equipment Since Covid we do not provide any clothing or equipment for hygiene reasons. You will need to provide your own personal motorcycle helmet, jacket, gloves and jeans. Wear sturdy footwear such as walking boots, not metal toe capped as this affects gear changing. Should you experience inclement weather during your training, you could bring a change of clothes. We will provide you with waterproof trousers if it is raining. CBT DAS & Test | Everything you need to know 13
