CORONAVIRUS PRAYER Loving Lord, We pray for your love and compassion to abound as we walk through this challenging season. We ask for wisdom for those who bear the load of making decisions with widespread consequences. We pray for those who are suffering with sickness and for all who are caring for them. We ask protection for the elderly and vulnerable to not succumb to the risks of the virus. We pray for misinformation to be curbed that fear may take no hold in hearts and minds. As we exercise the good sense that you in your mercy provide may we also approach each day in faith and peace, trusting in the truth of your goodness towards us. Amen. Spirituality and Dementia Care: A Gospel Message of Hope. In early March we were delighted to welcome Sister Siobhan O’Keeffe to Lund for a day of reflection. Sister Siobhan is an RGN; she has a degree in Applied Theology as well as a Diploma in Person-Centered Dementia Care. She has worked in Outreach Dementia Support Services and Nursing Home Management. She currently works in Community Palliative Care. Today an increasing number of people are living with dementia and the purpose of the day was to help us respond to the social and pastoral issues this raises. During the morning sessions we were given a comprehensive overview of the clinical aspects of dementia. This factual part of the day was peppered with many examples and lively anecdotes from Sister Siobhan’s own experiences. During the lunch break a number of the participants enjoyed a leg- stretch around our grounds whilst some visited the church. 6 | St John the Evangelist, Lund | April 2020

Sister Siobhan began the afternoon by telling of a visit to Australia where she was a speaker at an International Dementia Conference. Before the conference began, she spoke to the local police to let them know that there would be people attending the conference who had dementia and who might get lost when they left the venue. In the course of this tale, Sister donned a baseball cap with the word MISSING emblazoned on the front. She wore this for the rest of the day. In considering the teachings of the gospels and how these can be applied in everyday situations, she led us in discussion, in prayer, and in periods of silence. Everyone who attended the day found it to be most worthwhile. “Powerful”, “informative”, and “thought-provoking” were typical comments overheard on the way out. Many of those who attended from outwith Lund hope to be able to arrange a similar day with Sister Siobhan in their own parishes and services. Helen Bushe THE FACTS OF LIFE This is a story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody and Nobody. There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it. Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it. Somebody got angry about that, because it was Everybody's job. Everybody thought Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn't do it. It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done. From Marilyn Eckton April 2020 | St John the Evangelist, Lund | 7

Composed in Latin, in the fifth century, and preserved in manuscripts dating from the 800's onwards, these are the oldest extant texts written in Ireland. One of these documents is his Confessio or “Confession”, which is a testimony to Patrick’s personal faith and trust in God, to whom he attributes the entire success of his mission in Ireland.
