Nacéra Chergui Contact details Current position Environment and Climate Senior Meteorologist Responsible for Training Programs Change Canada [email protected] Career path Between Nacéra has been a meteorologist for more than 20 years. She 1pm-6pm holds a degree in electrical engineering and two master’s degrees in atmospheric sciences, including one from UQÀM. She began her career as a meteorologist in Algeria at the Office National de la Météorologie (ONM), and then worked in Montreal at Enviromet International (private company) for 4 years before joining the Meteorological Service of Canada in 2005. Originally, Nacéra is an electronics engineer. Her engineering thesis focused on the influence of meteorological parameters on solar panels. She completed her thesis by working at the National Meteorological Office in Algeria (ONM). It was there that she fell in love with meteorology. This pushed her to start studying atmospheric sciences only 2 weeks after graduating as an engineer! Nacéra is currently working as a Senior Meteorologist responsible for training programs with the Meteorological Service of Canada. She has been training meteorologists on new tools, technologies and developments in atmospheric sciences since 2015. Prior to 2015, Nacéra worked at the Aviation Weather Centre (CMAC), at the Threatening Weather Laboratory, the CMC National Forecast Development Division, in climatology and at the 1-900 service (Weather One-on-One). Subsequently, Michael became Program Supervisor in charge of marine, public and air quality programs. Now, as an Operational Coordinator, his duties are varied. He solves problems related to operations and contingencies. He coordinates the installation of new software. He responds to clients and public requests and works a few shifts for weather forecasting at the Quebec Storm Prediction Centre. After being an operational meteorologist, he has managed regional and national atmospheric and climate science programs, regional field operations in the area of weather prediction and atmospheric and hydrometric monitoring and the development of national weather and environmental prediction systems. Since 2014, Michel has been tasked to establish a new organization, the Canadian Centre for Meteorological and Environmental Prediction, whose objective is to provide Canada with the best human, science and technology infrastructure to analyze and predict atmospheric, ocean and ice conditions for decision-making.
