SBC ranks 4th in Social Worker Licensure Exam 2021; SW graduate in the top notch BY: JADE KATHLEEN A. DOLOR, BSED 4 St. Bridget College radiated brilliantly as Bridgetine Social Workers reaped laurels in the Social Work Licensure Examination (SWLE) held on August 24-26, 2021. Based on the result that the Philippine Regulatory Commission (PRC) released on September 2, St. Bridget College ranked fourth in the list of Top Performing Schools in the said Social Work board exam. Among the 100 Social Work schools with board takers, SBC was included in the top in terms of overall performance as it garnered 83.33% passing percentage for its 12 examinees. Moreover, a Bridgetine Social Work graduate, Angel Grace A. Atienza, emerged as Top 10 in the roster of top-notchers and successful examinees. Atienza, an academic achiever and active leader of their batch, graduated cum laude and recipient of other awards including the SBC Bayanihan Award for Active Participation in Extra-Curricular Activities, SBC Leadership Award, and St. Mary Euphrasia Award. Nine other Bridgetine Social Work graduates of Batch 2020 and 2006 made it in the licensure exam. These include Ariane Joy P. Anoñuevo, Rose Marie F. Bayeta, Dondon E. Borbon, Ederlyn M. De Chavez, Richelle B. Evangelista, Vanieza Joy S. Galario, Iea Joy M. Lira, Gingerlyne D. Panganiban and Angela M. Cay of Batch 2006. A total of 1,621 examinees took the licensure exam but only 612 successful examinees passed with a 37.75% passing percentage. Recognizing the achievement of Atienza, she was awarded with certificate of recognition and Php 10,000 cash as monetary incentive. The said reward also serve as additional motivation for other board exam passers to give their best in order to bring pride and honor to the program and the entire institution as well. Sr. Mary Clare Bagot, RGS, school president, presented the awards together with Dr. Amor Borbon, college dean, Mr. Sherwin Bagon, BSSW Officer-in-charge, and Mrs. Eugenia Marites Quinio, college registrar. Meanwhile, Dr. Amor Borbon, college dean, also expressed her joy as she congratulated the Social Work board passers. With the theme “Mind Matters: Coping Skills and Strategies for Bridgetine College Students in the Now Normal”, Mr. Brinson James Franco facilitated the event as he presented concepts, levels of anxiety and tools in managing it. Mr. Franco highlighted five tools in managing anxiety, emphasized the use of worry lists in countering worry that would lead students in productivity and added the other tools that students might use such as the Pomodoro Technique and cognitive reframing which would help the students in creating a different perspective on the situation they are currently experiencing. Furthermore, another tool discussed was countering negative self-talk where Mr. Franco tackled the different negative self-talk and used positive counter statements to combat it. “Yourself will be the first person to recognize your worth,” he emphasized. In addition, he further tackled the other tools which are the reintegration process and the importance of visualization.
