Vol. XXX No. 1 NEWS 3 AUGUST - december 2020 College Bridgetine families strengthen faith and hope MARY JOY DE CASTRO, BSED 3 Strengthening faith and Hope, College Bridgetines, together with their families, prayed the Holy Rosary in their homes, in line with the celebration for the month of the Holy Rosary, October 30, 2020. After consecutive predicaments that happened in previous days resulting to dismay and loss of focus of some College Bridgetines, YOPE Club facilitated a culminating activity to strengthen their faith and restore hope in the midst of uncertainty. Through the Daop-Palad Student Council (DPSC) Facebook page, YOPE Officers posted details on how the activity should be done and reminded students with five things before they proceed to praying of the rosary. These reminders included encouraging family members to be with them as they pray the Rosary. No definite time was scheduled as they were instructed to pray the Holy Rosary in their convenient time. Students were also reminded about setting up a mini altar and having a Rosary guide while offering the prayer. Moreover, they were instructed to take a photo with their families and send it to the DPSC Facebook page for the documentation. Lastly, they were asked to intercede their prayers to Mother Mary to bless their family and their loved ones. The activity ended by uploading the photos of the students with their families while they are praying the Holy Rosary. She also said that they were the first case from their barangay, and so, the flounder of their lives began. They struggled in the first evening as they ran out of stocked foods. They couldn’t ask for help because they were told by the City Health Office not to notify their neighbors to avoid disturbance. But as expected, the locale eventually knew their condition. The issue of the virus was very fresh by that time and their family had to deal with the discrimination of their neighbors. She narrated that when- ever people pass by their house, they were afraid of them and thought that they might catch the dis- ease even though they did not try to go outside. THE FIGHT Despite their situation, there were also Samaritans who gave them food after they found out their case. The disease was confirmed when her father got positive from the swab test and after the release of result, his business firm, as well as their barangay officials and nearby residents, helped them by giving food donation. In an interview, I asked her, “how did you cope with this circumstance?”, she replied, “We took vitamins, steamed our body, and we also drunk plenty of water every day and took stewed horseradish.” Just Breathe businessmirror.com.ph HOPE FRIDA D. Vol. XXX No. 1 FEATURE 11AUGUST-december 2020 Tour De Destin THERESE ANN MARIE PEREZ, BSED 3 Moira Rachelle Bustamante Cruzado Dela Torre, or simply, Moira dela Torre, has become one of the most phenomenal and influential women everyone looks up to. Aside from being a singer-songwriter, the 27-year old Moira remains a devout Christian where she considers writing and performing worship songs as her passion. Last January 14, 2019, she tied the knot with her bestfriend, Jason Marvin Hernandez. Because of her parents’ wit, individual destiny is the real meaning of her first name. Passionate about honing her craft, she first started as a voice artist where she commissioned corporate jingles and theme songs. She had been given the opportunity to sing McDonald’s “Hooray for Today”, Surf’s “Pinalaki” and Johnson & Johnson’s “Signature of Love”. Moreover, she tried to audition for The Voice Philippines last 2013. During the blind audition, she sang her rendition of the song: “Hallelujah” where she became part of Team Apl De Ap. Unfortunately, her The Voice journey comes to an end when Penelope Matanguihan won the battle round. As a butterfly starting to metamorphose, Moira created her first single titled “Love Me Instead” through “Moira”, her de- but album. She even had her first concert “Tagpuan” wherein tickets were sold out in four days on its first night. It was directed by an astounding actor and now director, John Prats. Last December 2018, she was proclaimed as Spotify’s No. 1 most streamed artist in the Philippines. Her successes didn’t stop there for last 2019, she became part of Idol Philippines. Later that year, she had her second major concert titled “Braver” at the Araneta Coliseum. Unaffected by fame, she remained very down to earth. Despite winning the Himig Handog 2017, using her interpreta- tion of the Libertine Amistoso’s song “Titibo-tibo”, she didn’t forget her purpose – to share her music. She even had her merchandise, a sweater, and shirt imprinted with her name, in association with Stork.ph to help the victims of typhoon Ulysses. A portion of the proceeds will be donated particularly to those living in Cagayan, Marikina, and Montalban, Rizal. Braver than ever, she wasn’t afraid to tell her “ritual” before performing in public. “Before performing, I just go the banyo or restroom and poop. Otherwise, I’ll just fart, which I’ve done several times”, she says. Moreover, she re- vealed that she underwent a botched nose job which caused her excruciating pain. She’s even at high risk of being blind, of an aneurysm, heart attack, and stroke because of the said operation. Despite all of this, she had forgiven her surgeon and chose not to file a complaint. Another plot twist happened when she was hailed as the OPM artist with the most digital platinum certifications in the world last October. In her Instagram post, she thanked Daniel Padilla, Erik Santos, Ben&Ben, I Belong to the Zoo, Iñigo Pascual, and December Avenue for giving her the opportunity to collaborate with them on her albums. With over 7.7 M listeners and 154.2 M streams across 92 countries, she was the “Most Streamed Local Female Artist” not only this year but three consecutive years. It was given by Spotify with a hashtag, #2020Wrapped. Yearning for a movement that aims to help bring and light to those who need it, 17 women from different parts of Southeast Asia, were together for a song collaboration entitled: “Heal”, for the benefit of those affected by Covid-19. Aside from her, some local artists like KZ Tandingan, Jayda, Jona, and Kyla were part of this movement. She was even asked to sing her rendition of “Reflection” from Disney’s Mulan which was shown in Cinemas last March 25, 2020. Ablaze by her first-ever international collaboration, the singer-songwriter posted on her Instagram ac- count a sneak peek of her conversation with Maximillian, a Danish singer, about a special treat to their PH fans. A day after, they released worldwide their new version of “Beautiful Scars”, a famous song of Maximillan’s. “Thank you so much, Max, for making 2021 so special already”, her Instagram caption, which was eventually commented by the said international singer. PAUBAYA, her latest single with over 30 million views on Youtube and over 19 million streams, brought businessmirror.com.ph people to reminisce and be in pain and tears. Aside from this, she had 31 more songs, some with colla boration on local artists, and some were used for teleseryes. Her career ceaselessly outshines as time goes by. One of the reasons why she was admired by many is that she’s undeniably mesmerizing, so as her personality. For some, she may be an underdog, but through her music, she can dive right into you and captivate your soul. Pares: The Greatest Pair Located Everywhere LOU AUSTIN D.
