SPRING 2021 / 185 LABYRINTH Most of my days are articulated by the same routes, the same roads, to go from one activity to another. I sub- consciously change course, nothing serious - an alley here or there, to meet something different. In vain! And though my city is an open place, without limits. My own life, my own way of being and my daily life is not only a repetition in the field of time, but also in the field of space. My movements constitute a closed geographical place, in which I act always returning to the starting point, at the same beginning. Space and time are twisted, converged, in a labyrinthine delimited place. Only my thoughts take me away, to the outside place. They look like birds traveling freely, but strange at- tractors, the result of a dark charm, trap them always in the same orbits, unable to give shape and place to new thoughts of another topology. Like a closed circuit of water, they constantly draw from the well of the thoughts of “yesterday”. My encounters with my known people are like meetings of people from another world. Impossible to pene- trate each other. This is betrayed by the embarrassment of words that confuse and prefer to give in to gravity before reaching their destination. The labyrinths do not communicate. In multiple ways trapped in a frantic vortex around the “self” axis, as another Sufi, a scream escapes me. a scream that paints the horizon deep red. Ariadne, gapes with her ears fully plugged.

TIMESILENCE PHOTOGRAPHY friends / 198 Tassos Schizas was born in Athens but he spent his childhood in Tasos Schizas Tripoli Libya. In 1982 he moved back to Greece and since then GREECE Thessaloniki has been his permanent residence. Since 1982 the art of photography has been his means of ex- FB: tassos.schizas pressing his artistic inclinations. He has been teaching in many INSTAGRAM: tassos_schizas private clubs and vocational schools. http://www.photoeidolo.gr/TassosSchizas.html In 1993, he published the “Gialino Mati” (Glass Eye), a black and white photographic magazine which was distributed to the public free of charge. Twenty issues were published between 1993 and 1996. In 1996, “Fotografiko Eidolo” (Photographic Idol), a new more professional, monothematic, artistic magazine succeeded the “Gialino Mati”. Twenty eight issues were published between 1996 and 2010. He leads the photographic groups “Fotoporoi”, “Group F”. He curates and organizes (with the above groups) the “Contrast - Thessaloniki Photo Festival”, All these years he has been orga- nizing exhibitions, lectures and seminars. He has written numerous reviews, he has published a series of articles and has also published three books (“The technique of analog and digital photography”, “True Lie”, “The idol of mu- sic”). His portfolios have been frequently published both in magazines and on the net. He has held 19 solo exhibitions and has taken part in 51 group exhibitions.
SPRING 2021 / 199 TELEPORTRAITS This idea for a series of “Teleportraits” was born during the quarantine, as a reaction to the isolation we all experienced and the all-encompassing use of digital communication. I attempted, through the digital screen, to relive the shared experience and the relationship between the photographer and the person being photo- graphed. All pictures were taken remotely, by photographing the computer screen during a videocall. I guided all those I photographed in terms of body positioning, expression, and use of light. The use of light in particular was a deciding factor! Employing basic light sources (torchlight, mobile phone screens, small desk lamps) and bringing them really close to the photographed person’s face yielded the necessary contrast, which, in turn, created the black background of the pictures. Our communication during the photo shoot reminded us of how such a session would unfold before the pan- demic, a familiar experience that was deeply missed. An essential element of the “Teleportraits” was the model’s active engagement and participation, so the pho- tographs that were the final product could carry in them the atmosphere of the photo shoot. During the photo shoots, I experimented with some of my favourite techniques, specifically with long expo- sure, zooming in, moving the camera, and double exposure. I found the end result impressing, since it com- bined all the imperfections of what the screen showed with all the techniques mentioned above. I concluded this process by editing, specifically by turning the photos black and white, correcting the bright- ness and contrast, turning them into square frames, and adding a grainy effect..
