Although Noah and Saby are fictional characters, Noah was lucky to have a magical lion cub and a guardian angel on his side. Real children with cancer don’t have a magical lion cub on their side, so it’s up to us to help keep them alive. In the U.S., an estimated 15,780 children under the age of 19 are diag- nosed with cancer every year, and some of these children live in our area. Unfortunately, ¼ of them will not survive the disease. While researchers are hard at work trying to find a cure, we at Friends of Rick Daniels are trying to bring joy to their faces while they wait. Our goal is to give every hospitalized child with cancer in our area a free autographed copy of Noah & Saby’s Magical Storybook Adventure and their very own Saby, the magical lion cub. To complete our mission of goodwill, we are asking for help from kind people like you. When you make a donation or purchase our books, we are one step closer to bringing that joy to as many children as we can. A note from the author This book is important to me because I have a rare blood disorder called Polycythemia Vera and I understand the daily struggle for children with cancer. Thank you for your support Rick Daniels
This is the real Saby. He was a Christmas gift from my girlfriend in 1986.
This is Rick & Saby in 2018.
In a city in the state of Maryland, lives a little boy named Noah. Noah loves going to school and playing with his friends.
One day, Noah goes to the hospital for his yearly physical exam and he is diagnosed with cancer. Noah now spends most days and nights at the Johns Hopkins Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center, where he is being treated for childhood cancer.
It’s a beautiful summer day. Noah is sitting in his bed waiting for his breakfast, when a hospital volunteer enters his room. She says, “Good morning Noah” and Noah says, “Good morning to you.”
She then asks Noah, “Would you like one of these cuddly stuffed animals I have on my cart?” Noah’s eyes light up with excitement! He looks them all over and says… “I want the lion cub!” The volunteer asks, “What are you going to call him?” Noah says…, “I’m going to call him Saby!” She says, “Good choice.” As she hands Noah his new friend, she watches the joy on Noah’s face.
The volunteer tells Noah, “En- joy your new friend” and leaves his room. As Noah is playing with Saby, Saby starts to talk. Noah stutters, “Y-y-you… you can talk! How did you do that!?” Saby says, “It’s magic!” Saby asks Noah, “What would you like to do today?” Noah says, “I… I would like to go to Six Flags America!”
Saby tells Noah, “All you have to do is hold me tight, close your eyes, and think happy thoughts.”
When Noah opens his eyes, he and Saby are at Six Flags America. The two are having so much fun!
They ride on the Wild One! ROAR! and Firebird!!!
After a long day of having so much fun, Saby tells Noah, “It’s getting late and we should leave now.” Noah asks Saby, “How do we get back to the hospital?” Saby says, “Hold me tight, close your eyes, and count 1, 2, 3.”
When Noah opens his eyes, he and Saby are back in his hospital bed.
The next day, Noah’s mom and dad come to visit him. He tells them, “Th-th- th this is my new friend, Saby!!! Yesterday we went to Six Flags America and we had so much fun!!! We rode on The Wild One!!! ROAR!!! Firebird and so many more!!! Noah’s mom and dad look at each other and say, “Yes Noah, sure you did.” “N-N-No, It’s True!!! Saby has magical powers a-a- and.. he can talk!!!” Noah’s parents say, “Sure Noah.”
After a long visit, his mom and dad tell him, “We have to leave now, but we will be back tomorrow.” Noah is already asleep by the time they leave.
The next day, Noah is in his bed with his mom and dad by his side. Noah is still asleep.
The volunteer enters Noah’s room. She tells him, “Noah, wake up! Wake up Noah!” Noah, stutters, “B-b-but Saby didn’t wake up!” She tells Noah, “Saby put his magic in you so you could always think happy thoughts.”
The volunteer then tells Noah, “Saby will always be with you. Remember the secret?” “Hold him tight, close your eyes, and think happy thoughts.” Noah stutters, “B-b-but how did you know the secret?” She tells Noah, “It’s magic.” Remember, always think happy thoughts! The End. To be continued...
