His passion for civil rights also included his volunteering with the well known organization of The Black Panther Party of the Southern California Chapter. This journey would later pave the way to his po- sition as a Polling Site Field Operator, during which time he experi- enced one of the most memorable events of his life, the historic 2008 election of President Barack Obama. His proudest accomplishment was his family. His hours of story- telling with his children as well as his grandchildren would be con- sidered precious moments as he constantly reminded them of their worth and his unconditional love. He was an avid student of the Bible, searching and learning the scriptures, sharing the goodness of God and the beauty of the Holy Spirit. He walked in humility, always mindful and thankful of the ul- timate sacrifice and the gift of salvation through Jesus Christ. At the onset of his illness and the disabilities affecting his speech, we witnessed his strength as he made every effort to communicate with loved ones. A true soldier, as he fought his greatest battle. On the afternoon of January 13th, at 12:50pm, the Lord whis- pered, \"Billy, it's time to come home. Well done thy good and faithful servant.\" William is preceded in death by his beloved grandmother, Martha McGowan, mother Carrie McGowan, father Wilson Tillis, brother Larry Malbrue and sister Carrie Malbrue. He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 43 years, Bette Tillis, sisters Martha (Skirt) Cammack, Julia Ellen Gordon; Four daughters, Demetria Tillis- Turner (husband Jerry Turner), Adrianne Bradley (husband Jerry Bradley), Sabrina Tillis-Brown ( husband Shaun Brown) and Angela Morgan (husband Daniel Morgan); Two sons, David Tillis (wife Barbara) and Harold Tillis (wife Michelle); 18 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and a host of nieces, neph- ews, cousins and friends. We consider it an honor and privilege paying homage to our fallen soldier and are comforted in the promises of the scriptures, the blessed Hope of Glory, that we will one day be reunited.

MY DADDY MY HERO I thought of you today but that is nothing new. I thought about you yesterday and days before that too. I think of you in silence I often speak your name All I have are my Beautiful memories and your picture in a frame. Your memory is my keepsake from which I’ll never part. God has you in His loving arms and I have you in my heart. You will forever be My Hero, Daddy! Your Loving oldest daughter Affectionally Detri

\"So much to say and so little time, I'll begin by saying thank you Daddy for loving us unconditionally, and teaching us that the word 'can't' doesn't exist/apply to us, instilling in us at an early age that whatever we choose to be in life, be the best. I already miss our chats whenever we were together, never wanting them to end. I can't help but smile at the thought of how you always showed me off to everyone you knew, and how proud you were. But inside my heart and soul, it was you who I was most proud of, and I'm grateful for having the opportunity to tell you that. I promise to look after my sisters as you would always drill into me. I love and miss you Daddy, till we meet again, and we will, it's God's promise...rest well in the Lord's loving arms...\" THE GREATEST OF ALL TIME Your Loving Son, David Daddy Is Not Gone Ease your grief, he is not gone, For in your heart, he lingers on. His smile, his laugh, his voice his music, Will comfort you, from day to day. You’ll feel his presence in the breeze, That dances gently, through the trees, And it’s his face that you shall see, When you’re in need of company At any time, you can recall Those conversations you shared…. You saved it all. And in time, more than anything, You’ll find peace in remembering. Love You Forever Daddy, Your Daughter Adrianne

Remembering Our GrandDaddy We will not forget our Granddaddy since no one will ever take his place in our hearts, souls, and minds. Throughout our lives, we will treasure two memories that are so dear to us, your company and your infectious smile. Even though our Granddaddy is no more, we will always be to- gether in spirit until the day we will meet in Heaven. We miss your Love, Hugs, and being Happy with you! Even though the sun will still rise on tomorrow, it won’t shine as bright as before being with you. Your Loving Grandchildren MY ANGEL I have an Angel In Heaven and I call him My Grandpa.
