Peter Smith, Secretary and Vice President Secretary Good afternoon to you all and welcome to Mayfield Stadium for this afternoon’s game against Lordswood, we extend a warm welcome to the Officials, Management, Players and supporters of Lordswood and hope you enjoy your time with us and have a safe journey home. We also extend the same welcome to today’s match officials. Well we are three games into the new season with all the new regulations brought about by the global pandemic! It has made things different but so far it seems to be working fairly well. As we become acclimatised to the new rules and regulations, I’m sure, it will become second nature. We, as humans, don’t like change. We seem to be happy to do things the way we always have even if the changes make a difference! Today the big boys begin their 2020-21 seasons behind closed doors. I found it difficult watching when last season was finished with no crowds. The piped crowd noise sounded very false. Even watching the snooker or the test and T20 cricket games the crowd noise didn’t sound right. Even with crowds of 300 or under you get an atmosphere. Sport thrives on having spectators. When you think back to the cricket you have to feel sorry for Zak Crawley and Jimmy Anderson when their milestone performances were only seen by team-mates or the opposition or the ground staff and TV commentators!
Peter Smith, Secretary and Vice President There was one thing that made me chuckle. I “Well we are three watched the last few minutes of a Bundesliga games into the new match. Borussia Dortmund were playing and season with all the winning 4-1, when the final whistle blew the new regulations Dortmund players all ran to the stand where their brought about by the noisiest fans sit to applaud them! bIf I’d been global pandemic! ” one of the players I’m sure I’d have felt an idiot! “Luckily, at the moment, we can still Luckily, at the moment, we can still operate with operate with a a maximum of 300 spectators so we will have maximum of 300 some atmosphere in our grounds, you could say spectators” for us things are almost normal. The question is will we ever get back to normal. Please make sure that you abide by all the regulations that are in place. They do apply to everyone and they are intended for your safety. The worst thing that could happen would be to see the season interrupted by another lockdown and we can do our bit to make sure that doesn't happen. Well enjoy the game and have a safe journey home. We now face two away games, first on Wednesday we are at Erith Town before our FA Vase campaign with a trip to Wick which is near Littlehampton. We hope to see some of you there.
Kevin Rayner - First Team Manager Rayner “We conceded in the Today we welcome everyone to Mayfield Stadium second half but for our first Saturday home League game of the should have won the season and welcome all those connected with game late on.” Lordswood FC. “The youth section is thriving this year On Tuesday night we had our first home league and will stand the game of the season and it was good to have some of club in good stead” the injured players return whichj improved our squad and saw us compete in a good game of football with Erith and Belvedere. We had six changes to last weeks depleted squad at Punjab United and it soon showed as Nahum Green scored to give us a half time lead. We conceded in the second half but should have won the game late on. All in all a good point on the board and a bit of confidence going in to today’s game. We still have a couple of players struggling and lost Jack Clarke to injury on Tuesday. We are in a better shape and those that returned on Tuesday are all fit for today’s visit of Lordswood. Lordswood are yet to register and we will do our upmost to keep it that way. all games in this league are difficult so we will need to be at our best and will look to improve on Tuesday’s performance to get anything from today’s game.
Kevin Rayner - First Team Manager It has been disappointing to lose so many players before the opening two games however four were back on Tuesday and I’m sure the other four out will return over the next few weeks to strengthen us further. I am hopeful that we have some of our younger teams in supporting today. The youth section is thriving this year and will stand the club in good stead with new teams added and a new partnership with Tom Kavanagh and KR Sports Academy really pushing things forward in a positive way. Following today we don’t return home until Canterbury City on Saturday 26th September and are on the road to Erith Town next Wednesday and Wick FC in the FA Vase next Saturday. Before our next home game our U18s are at home to Faversham Town in the FA Youth Cup on Monday 21st and it would be good to see some of you here to cheer them on. Be great to see as many of you as possible today and again if anyone fancies travelling next week to support, it will be appreciated by the team. Enjoy the game .

Season Tickets News Coronavirus The Government announced new measures that come into effect on Monday that will create limits for gatherings. This is as a result of an increase in the number of cases. Naturally, we urge everyone to abide by the new restrictions. Nevertheless, organised football for Steps 3 to Step 6 is amongst those matters that are currently exempt so we shall continue with the measures that are in place. It does mean that we must make sure that our measures are observed and seek your cooperation. FA Vase The Buildbase FA Vase gets underway next week with our trip to Wick FC. However, last year’s competition is still to complete. Corinthian FC completed their semi-final 2nd leg last Saturday but finally succumbed on penalty kicks. It means they miss out on a trip to Wembley which will now host the all north-east final between Consett and Hebburn. Our commiserations are extended to Corinthian on getting so close but also congratulations on the achievement. FA Youth Cup Our U18s are back in action on 21st September with a home FA Youth Cup tie when they entertain Faversham Town U18 in the 1st Qualifying Round; the action gets underway at 7.45pm. Stewards With new measures in place it means that we have had to deploy extra volunteers as stewards in the ground for our first team games. We extend our thanks to those volunteers, Kenny, Kevin, Peter and Ben who have all helped so far.

In the opening exchanges of this season they have started with two defeats, 0-3 at home to Bexhill United and 1-3 at Billingshurst. Driving to Wick’s Crabtree Park ground is straightforward. Meet Today’s Opponents FC Year Formed: 1968 Club Nickname: The Wood Ground: Martyn Grove North Dane Way Chatham, ME5 8YE History Lordswood FC were formed in 1968 and played out their early years in Cliffe Woods playing in the Rochester and District League. In the early 1970's the football club and cricket club formed the Lordswood Sports and Social Club, acquiring the land and building the foundations of the facilities that are present today. The clubhouse was built in 1977 and since then the Rugby club and Petanque club have also joined the Social club. Lordswood's highest league position is 4th which was achieved in 2015/16. They have reached the Semi-Final of the Kent Senior Trophy 3 times and the final once (losing 2-1 to Tunbridge Wells in 2012/13, and the League Cup semi-final once. The 2012/13 season was arguably Lordswood’s most successful ever, reaching the 4th round of the Carlsberg FA Vase (losing to the winners Spennymoor Town), and the semi-final of the Macron Premier Division Cup. Lillis returned to the club but left again less than a year later in March of the 2014/15 season. James Collins came in to steady the ship at the end of the 2014/15 season and took the role permanently for the following season leading the Lords to their highest ever league finish of 4th. His achievement didn’t go unnoticed and he departed for Cray Valley. Former player Richard Styles was appointed the club manager for the start of the 2016/17 season in his first managerial position and he struggled in his first term, with the club languishing at the wrong end of the table it took a turn of form in the last few months for the side to draw clear of the bottom to finish in 16th place. The following season saw a much improved performance, finishing a respectable 8th in the league and reaching the semi-finals of the SCEFL Challenge Cup (losing to eventual winners Whitstable Town on aggregate over 2 legs) and enjoying a run to the 3rd round proper of the FA Vase. Hopes were therefore high for an improved season during 2018/19, however a number of inconsistent performances resulted in a somewhat disappointing 10th placed finish. Styles left the club in June to take up the vacant manager's post at Tunbridge Wells and a number of players from the Lordswood squad followed him. Darren Anslow was appointed as the new manager for the 2019/20 season and helped the club consolidate itself within the league until the season was unceremoniously halted by the Coronavirus pandemic. All fixtures and results were declared null and void and Anslow departed due to personal reasons. Neil Hunter had joined the club in early 2020 to assist Anslow and he was handed the manager position, bringing in former player Michael Dodsworth as his assistant.

AFC Croydon Athletic and K&R Sports Academy Development K&R Sports Academy was established with the aim of providing young children and adults with the opportunity to develop both as a player and as a person through the power of sport. We pride ourselves on taking a holistic approach to coaching both in schools and our academy where the person's personal development is as important as their sporting development. From the start of the 2020/21 footballing season we are excited to have partnered with AFC Croydon Athletic.
