Peter Smith, Secretary and Vice President Secretary Good evening to you all. We extend a very warm welcome to the officials, management, players and supporters of Fisher. We also extend a warm welcome to this evening’s match officials and anyone making their first visit to Mayfield Stadium. To me the two clubs today will always have a close association. They like us are a phoenix club having gone through similar troubles. Also when we reformed it was Fisher who welcomed us to the first ever friendly game we played. Although, they didn’t show us too much charity on the pitch, as they won by 4-1. They, like us, are a members club put together by supporters who had a love of their “deceased” former club. Unlike clubs like FC United of Manchester and others, who was set up because they didn’t care for the owners of the club. They, like us, have no millionaires to help pay bills or players wages but again, like us, they have passion for their club and stay competitive even if they can’t attract the money grabbers who ply their trade in non-league football!

Peter Smith, Secretary and Vice President In my experience it has always been the same at “it was Fisher who non-league level. When I was a young lad I welcomed us to the followed both Dulwich Hamlet and Corinthian- first ever friendly Casuals, as they shared Dulwich’s ground, game we played” which I could see from my bedroom. I even “we and, I dare say, watched their first floodlights being erected. Fisher will carry on They both played in the Isthmian league which trying to buck the in those days was one division and no automatic system” promotion or relegation. Every season the bottom 3 places were always a fight between Dulwich, Casuals or Clapton for who would finish bottom and why? Because they were the sides that didn’t pay. It has always been that way, people will find a way of getting around rules or laws. Read Jimmy Greaves book. He tells of when he signed for Spurs during the days of the maximum wage and how a Spurs director put him on his companies payroll without ever doing a day’s work. It will carry on but we and, I dare say, Fisher will carry on trying to buck the system. I say good luck to them apart from when we play. Enjoy the game and remember Rams fans it’s another home game on Saturday against Corinthian

Kevin Rayner - First Team Manager Rayner “won the last 44 Good evening all and tonight we welcome Fisher minutes 3 2 all be it FC and everyone attending the Mayfield Stadium 46 minutes too late.” for our League game today. “We know we will need to be at our Thankfully we are now home for the next two best to pick up games as we had improved greatly with players something tonight” returning, until we had a blip at title-favourites Chatham Town on Saturday. There’s no secret in Chatham’s budget and one of their players gets more than our whole weekly budget so you can imagine we were up against it. That said and done, I thought we could have done well but all our work and preparation was undone in an opening ten minutes where we made three bad errors and Chatham Town scored each time. The game was over. To the boys credit we regrouped at half time and needed to not lose the second half. After conceding in the 46th minute we then showed some qualities and won the last 44 minutes 3 2 all be it 46 minutes too late. Chatham are a good side and will win the league. They didn’t need our generous gifts to help them on their way and it was totally frustrating watching the opening 30 minutes. we did well in the second half achieved the aim at half time not to lose the second half and take that forward to tonight.

Kevin Rayner - First Team Manager The errors were something that we had cut out of the game recently but possibly a couple of changes didn’t help and I’m making no excuses for the opening shape as it wouldn’t have mattered if we were playing a 4-6-0 formation; gifts like that throw the game away. Still that’s gone we learn and move on. We did get the best goal of the game with a Jermaine Green SCREAMER and restored a bit of credit and pride with a battling second half. We were in improved form particularly at home and tonight we a have chance to get back on track against a good Fisher team. We welcome Danny Carpanini who is doing well in goal for Fisher and hopefully we can send him home unhappy as we will look to get a result tonight. Both teams will fancy they can win the game so it should be a good encounter. We will have Liam Harwood, Jack Clarke, Jack Marney and Del Akpofure all back in contention with most of the squad available for the next two home games. We know we will need to be at our best to pick up something tonight and we have the incentives to do that. Enjoy the game and hope to see again on Saturday at home to high-flying Corinthian FC.

Upcoming Away Travel Road Wednesday, 4th November 2020 Southern Counties East Football League, Premier Division v Welling Town At Sporting Club Thamesmead, Baylis Avenue, Thamesmead, London, SE28 8NJ Welling Town is our next trip. They got off to a great start to the season and topped the fledgling league table winning 4 and drawing 1 of their opening five game. Since then they have had a run of defeats but remain in mid-table. They also had to contend with playing their opening games away from home but they are back playing at their Baylis Avenue ground for this one. To get there, head onto the South Circular Road although don’t take the Woolwich Ferry! From there pick up the A206 and head into Thamesmead and follow the Western Way before you pick up the A2401. Turn left onto Crossway and follow this until you reach Baylis Avenue and the ground. The nearest station is Abbey Wood from which you will need to get a 229 bus or make the 30 minute walk. Robert Earnshaw has scored a hattrick in all of the top four divisions, the FA Cup, the League Cup and in an International!

Meet Today’s Opponents FC Year Formed: 1908 (original club) Club Nickname: The Fish Ground: St Paul’s Sports Club Salter Road Rotherhithe, SE16 5EF History Originally formed in 1908, the Fish have a chequered history, including highs of taking on Bristol City in the 1st round of the FA Cup in 1984, playing Conference Football and towards the end of Fisher Athletic, winning the London Senior Trophy. The final few years of the old Fisher Athletic turned sour as the ground was lost and finally, in 2009 (five years after moving in with Dulwich Hamlet), the club was wound up by the high court. A week later, following a successful meeting, a supporter’s trust was set up to take control of the club. Renamed Fisher FC and continuing to play at Dulwich’s Champion Hill, the club entered the Kent League and finished their debut season in 13th under the guidance of Gary Lisney. Various managers (including Billy Walton, Martin Ford and Steve Firkins) have come and gone in the last few seasons bringing varying levels of success to the club (the most notable success being reaching the Semi-Finals of the Kent League Cup under Billy Walton in 2013/14, eventually losing 6-4 on aggregate to Beckenham, who went on to win the competition). In December 2014, former Beckenham assistant manager Dean Harrison (the mastermind behind Becks’ 2014 League Cup and Kent Senior Trophy double crown) took the reins. He brought with him a host of new faces and achieved the main task of maintaining SCEFL status with four games to spare, with impressive performances against more established sides turning more than a few heads along the way. The club returned home to Rotherhithe just in time for the start of the 2016/17 season, with Gary Abbott taking over following Harrison’s surprise departure in the summer. Abbott struggled to get things going on the field and was relieved of managerial duties in November. The club moved quickly to bring Harrison back to the dugout for the survival fight. Despite a valiant effort, the club were relegated to SCEFL Division 1, and finished third in 2017/18 season, and were awarded promotion by the FA Leagues Committee, so will once again compete in the SCEFL Premier Division for the 2018/19 season. A superb first season back at Step 5 saw the Fish finish 3rd in the league, having sat at the top of the tree mid- season. The club also reached the Semi-Final of the SCEFL Challenge Cup, and the Quarter Final of the Kent Senior Trophy. Another shock departure from Harrison has seen the majority of that squad picked off to move on. After a brief spell under the leadership of Allan Fenn at the beginning of the 2019/20 campaign, AJ Ashanike has now taken charge, bringing a wealth of experience and an extensive contact book to guide us forward.

Tony Ford U18 League Cup AFC Croydon Athletic U18 v Fleet Spurs U18 At Mayfield Stadium Monday 23rd October 2020, ko 7.30pm Admission £3 Covid 19 Track and Trace applies to all attendees It is back to back defeats as Beckenham Town came to Mayfield Stadium and left with a win by 2-0. It leaves the Rams rooted to the foot of the table although with so few games played it is still very early days. This Thursday away game at Balham FC here at Mayfield Stadium has been postponed due to a positive Covid 19 Test in their team. We wish them a speedy recovery. This has been rearranged for February. The draw has been made for the League Cup and we have a home tie against Fleet Spurs on Monday 23rd November, our next home game. Between now and then we have three away trips starting with a visit to Sutton United on 30th October.

AFC Croydon Athletic and K&R Sports Academy Development It was a busy weekend last weekend with most of our teams due to be in action. Sadly a couple of games were postponed due to unavailability of the opposition but there were some good results for our teams in league action. The U14 Falcons won their first league game of the season with a 3-0 win over Old Wilsonian’s Nairne inflicting their first defeat of the season. Also at home was the U12 Eagles who had their second draw in a row. Last week it was a 6-6 thriller whereas this week the game finished 0-0. Away from home the U13 Hawks beat Afewee Urban 4-2 although having lead 4-9 they were disappointed to have conceded a couple of goals. It means they sit joint top with Old Wilsonians Brecon who they play next week. Finally, the U12 Falcons got back to winning ways with a 6-1 win over West Wickham Sapphires to sit mid-table. Other teams were in action. Amongst those were the U10s who played at home to Peckham Town and had an exciting 2-2 draw that could have gone either way. They were pictured before the game. With half-term starting next week there are just a handful of games although the U15s will be keen to get back to playing and will look to make it 3 wins out of 3 when they take on Petts Wood Redwings before their second round League Cup tie the following week. The Under 13 Hawks play their second game against Old Wilsonians Brecon with both sides top of the table. Hawks lost the first clash so will hope to overturn that result and make it to the top of the table.
