We very much hope that you enjoy the game. All the measures are for your safety and the safety of others and we hope that you will help us to help you.
Peter Smith, Secretary and Vice President Secretary Good afternoon to you all and welcome to Mayfield Stadium. We extend a very warm welcome to this afternoon’s visitors, Bearsted FC. We hope they enjoy their short stay and have a safe journey home. We extend the same welcome to the referee and his assistants and to any making their first visit here. We continue to play our football under the cloud of Covid 19 and much has been written and spoken by many people about the impact having no spectators at football matches. Of course, at our level we are allowed spectators, with a sealing of 300 customers although a lot of teams at our level don’t have crowds at that level, ourselves included! What I find interesting and a little confusing is how the powers that be came to that decision and how there are anomalies in this. Take for instance the case of Welling United (who play in the National League and, their ground-sharers, Erith & Belvedere. When Welling are at home there are no paying spectators but when Erith play they are allowed up to 300 paying spectators. The stadium doesn’t change and does Covid19 know the difference between the National league and the Southern Counties East League? Strange isn’t it.
Peter Smith, Secretary and Vice President Also I read in a newspaper this week that Prime “much has been Minister, Boris Johnson, was advocating that written and spoken people should go to the cinema! We all know by many people that lockdown affected a lot of people, sadly about the impact causing some to lose their jobs but surely it is having no spectators safer to watch outdoor sport than to be cooped at football matches” up in a cinema. Don’t get me wrong I’m not taking Covid19 lightly and we should be taking “observe the all precautions that we can to stay safe but I just precautions that are want an explanation of why it’s safer to sit there to keep us indoors in a cinema rather than sitting or safe” standing at a sporting event. Still, while we can, let us enjoy the football we can watch, observe the precautions that are there to keep us safe and, hopefully, we may return to a form of normality in the very near future. I hope we all enjoy the game, stay safe and can continue to attend. To all Rams fans remember next we have a trip to one of the promotion contenders in Chatham Town. They, like Sheppey United, have an FA Cup tie in mid-week and we wish them all the luck in their difficult ties. Stay safe and see you at Chatham or at the next home game versus Fisher.
Kevin Rayner - First Team Manager Rayner “It was good to be Good Afternoon to all as today we welcome disappointed at only Bearsted FC and everyone attending the Mayfield drawing the game” Stadium for our league game today. “As we write these notes I think we are Our form has improved as we start to get players still the last team to back having suffered from an unbelievable injury beat Corinthian in crisis over the early part of the season. With only the league” one defeat in the last four games things have looked better and there will still be room for improvement as the last on the list return. On Tuesday night we welcomed Beckenham Town and we should really have won the game. We controlled the second half and had three great late chances with Billy Murphy and Nahum Green not converting and Emiliano skying a ball over the crossbar in the 93rd minute after a good cross from Timmy Babington. It was good to be disappointed at only drawing the game as it shows the improvement and expectation when we get players back in. We are still yet to have any player that has played in all games or play the same eleven twice this season. Things are improving well, However, today unfortunately, we have lost a couple of players for the game so our shuffling of players continues.
Kevin Rayner - First Team Manager Bearsted have had a couple of good results and as always Kevin will have their side well prepared and organised so we will expect another tough game and will need to be at our best to get anything today. Following Bearsted we have another tough game away to Chatham before we entertain Fisher and Corinthian FC at home. As we write these notes I think we are still the last team to beat Corinthian in the league and lets hope we can repeat the feat on Saturday 24th October. A special welcome to all the Ladies attending today as the club have promoted the day as Ladies Day. My thanks and all of the Management Team and players go to all those at the club; Carol, Barbara, Tara and Keira and a special mention to our superfan Beth Arzy for her fantastic support for the first team and gestures which are gratefully appreciated. Lets hope we can put on a good performance today and I’m sure it will be a tight contest as both teams will fancy they can grab the points.

147 and counting... Green Appearance 147 for Nahum Green on Tuesday night saw him make the most appearances for the Rams since the club formed in 2012. He overtakes Tony Martin (146) and looks set to become the first player to make it to 150. Nahum made his debut in the FA Cup tie at Colliers Wood United at the start of the 2016/17 season. In that time he has scored 38 goals which is the fifth highest. He is one of nine players to have made a century of appearances and now leads the way. Congratulations to Naham and we look forward to you make it to the next milestone.
Ladies Day at Mayfield Stadium Day Today is the Club’s first “Ladies Day” where we look to celebrate women in football and to offer our thanks for the work that goes on, not sure for AFC Croydon Athletic, but in clubs up and down the country. As part of that “thank-you” we are giving free entry to all women coming to the game. It is hoped that this will be repeated every year. It is part of our commitment to the diversity of football that enriches our beloved game. This season we have our first girls team under their Coach Emily Cefai and that is something we hope will develop and grow over the coming years. However, every week dozens of Mums support their children playing for our junior teams. Making sure they get to training and their games are just as important. It is appropriate that our celebration coincides with the Breast Cancer Awareness Month which takes place in October and the Pink Ribbon Day which is on Tuesday. Breast Cancer Now estimates that almost a million women may have missed their mammograms due to the programmes being paused due the Covid 19 pandemic. Breast Cancer awareness is more important than ever. Wear the ribbon… give generously… save lives
