PAST TENSE Past Tense คือ รูปแบบของคำกริยาที่แสดงถึงเหตุการณ์หรือ การกระทำที่เกิดขึ้นในอดีต แบ่งออกได้เป็น 4 รูปแบบ Past Simple Past Continuous Past Perfect Past Perfect Continuous

1. Past Simple Tense S + V.2 Subject + Verb 2 หรือ Verb เติม ed ใช้กับเหตุการณ์หรือการกระทำที่ เกิดขึ้นและจบลงในอดีต มักมีคำหรือกลุ่มคำของอดีตมากำกับด้วย เช่น ago (แต่ก่อน) once (ครั้งหนึ่งในอดีต) yesterday (เมื่อวานนี้) last night (เมื่อคืนก่อน) last month (เมื่อเดือนที่แล้ว) when he was young (เมื่อตอนที่เขายังเป็นเด็ก) after they had gone (หลังจากที่พวกเขาไปแล้ว)

1.I went to the beach yesterday. 2.She studied French in high school. 3.They visited London last summer. 4.He watched a movie last night. 5.We cooked dinner at home yesterday. 6.The concert started at 7 PM. 7.He played soccer with his friends yesterday. 8.She finished her homework before dinner. 9.They traveled to Japan last year. 10.The museum closed at 6 PM.

2. Past Continuous Tense S + was,were + V.(ing) 1. ใช้ร่วมกับ Past Simple Tense เมื่อมีเหตุการณ์หรือการกระทำ 2 อย่าง เกิดขึ้นไม่พร้อมกันในอดีต โดยให้ใช้ Past Simple Tense กับเหตุการณ์สั้นๆ ที่เกิดขึ้นทีหลัง และใช้ Past Continuous Tense กับเหตุการณ์ที่เกิดขึ้นก่อน และกำลังดำเนินอยู่ในขณะนั้น เช่น While I was watching the football match, I had a headache. (ขณะที่ฉันกำลังดูการแข่งขันฟุตบอลอยู่นั้น ฉัน ก็ปวดศีรษะ)

2. Past Continuous Tense S + was,were + V.(ing) 2. ใช้กับเหตุการณ์หรือการกระทำ 2 อย่างที่กำลังดำเนินอยู่ในอดีตในเวลา เดียวกัน เช่น We were playing while they were studying. (พวกเรา กำลังเล่นกัน ขณะที่พวกเขากำลังเรียน )

2. Past Continuous Tense S + was,were + V.(ing) การใช้ When, While When ใช้นำหน้าประโยค Past Simple While ใช้นำหน้าประโยค Past Continuous

1.While she was reading, he was playing the guitar. 2.They were having a picnic when it started raining. 3.I was studying at the library when I received his call. 4.We were dancing at the party when the music suddenly stopped.

3. Past Perfect Tense S + had + V.3 ใช้กับเหตุการณ์หรือการกระทำ 2 อย่างที่เกิดขึ้นและสิ้นสุดลงในอดีต โดยเหตุการณ์ที่เกิดขึ้นก่อนให้ใช้ Past Perfect Tense ส่วนเหตุการณ์ที่ เกิดขึ้นทีหลังให้ใช้ Past Simple Tense

3. Past Perfect Tense S + had + V.3 เช่น I went to work after I had eaten breakfast. (ฉันไปทำงานหลังจากที่ได้ทานอาหารเช้า) We had learnt Japanese before we went to Japan. (พวกเราได้เรียนภาษาญี่ปุ่นก่อนที่พวกเราจะไปประเทศญี่ปุ่น)

3. Past Perfect Tense S + had + V.3 การใช้ Before, After Before ใช้นำหน้าประโยค Past Simple After ใช้นำหน้าประโยค Past Perfect

1.She went to the store after she had finished her work. 2.He arrived at the party after the cake had been cut. 3.I realized I left my keys at home after I had left the office. 4.After we had finished dinner, we went to see a movie. 5.By the time we arrived, the concert had already started. 6.She had already left for the airport before I arrived at her house. 7.She had prepared all the documents before the meeting started.

4. Past Perfect Continuous Tense S+ had + been + V.(ing) มีวิธีการใช้ที่ไม่แตกต่างจาก Past Perfect Tense แต่มีจุดต่างกันตรงที่ Past Perfect Continuous Tense จะเน้นความต่อเนื่องของเหตุการณ์ หรือการกระทำได้ดีกว่า Past Perfect Tense เช่น I had been sleeping for two hours when he came in. (ฉันได้นอนหลับต่อเนื่องมาเป็นเวลา 2 ชั่วโมงแล้ว เมื่อตอนที่เขาเข้ามา)

1.When he arrived, she had been waiting for over an hour. 2.After they had been hiking for hours, they decided to take a break. 3.By the time I got there, the party had been going on for a while. 4.She was tired because she had been working in the garden all day.

สรุปการใช้คู่ Past Tense ในการเล่าเรื่องราวในอดีต 1.Past Con. + Past Sim. เมื่อมี 2 เหตุการณ์ที่เกิดขึ้นไม่พร้อมกันในอดีต เกิดก่อนใช้ Past Con. (ใช้คู่กับ while) เกิดแทรกทีหลังใช้ Past Sim. (ใช้คู่กับ when) While I was having dinner, my dad came home. She was walking to school when it rained.

สรุปการใช้คู่ Past Tense ในการเล่าเรื่องราวในอดีต 2.Past Con. + Past Con. เมื่อมี 2 เหตุการณ์ที่กำลังเกิดขึ้นพร้อมๆกันในอดีต While Jenny was singing, I was dancing. I was reading a book while my brother was playing games.

สรุปการใช้คู่ Past Tense ในการเล่าเรื่องราวในอดีต 4.Past Perfect Con. + Past Sim. เมื่อมี 2 เหตุการณ์ที่เกิดขึ้นและจบลงไปแล้วในอดีต แต่จะเน้นความ ต่อเนื่องของเหตุการณ์ที่เกิดก่อน เกิดก่อนใช้ Past Perfect Con. เกิดทีหลังใช้ Past Sim. I had been listening to music for 2 hours when the power went out.
