UPDATES: STAAR STAAR test is APPROACHING! English I and English II are during the first week of April and other content/grades are during the first two weeks of May. March 21st professional development allowed teachers an opportunity to review their data and make plans for student progress. Data also represented how students did last year on STAAR compared to STAAR Benchmark was also shared with you. This data is extremely important to determine at this point which students have regressed since last year and which have progressed. Remember that the key to STAAR is ensuring every student makes progress (and that no students regress). Please use this data to make plans to address student progress or lack thereof, conference with students and assist them in setting goals for the STAAR test. I have no doubt that with well laid out plans, ensuring bell to bell instruction and student engagement, working with students (and parents where necessary), and supporting student needs, KISD is destined to make the progress required this year! YOU GOT THIS! FAILURE RATES: The end of the 3rd grading period ended on March 25 and report cards were distributed on April 1. Principals will be receiving number of failure rates per content/per grade level, as well as student names, by content. Principals will be reviewing this information with teachers to determine recommendations for summer school and credit recovery opportunities. More info will be forthcoming on this topic. SUMMER SCHOOL Summer school teacher/para applications have been distributed. Deadline to submit applications is Friday, April 8. Summer School will be held from June 8-29, with a professional development/preparation day scheduled for June 7. CURRICULUM WRITING Curriculum writing has been scheduled from July 11-14 and July 18-21 from 8:00-12:00. We are looking forward to our continued work to improve our pacing guides and curriculum for your use. This summer we are wanting to continue to build on the pacing guides to include resources and assessments to allow for ease of planning and preparation for next year. Curriculum writing applications will be distributed in mid to late April and due no later than the end of April.
