I benefited from The Reach Method in a number of ways. First, I think the Reach Method can definitely help make it easier for people who are introverted by nature to move outside of what is “normal” for them. I also thought it was interesting to listen to some of the other participants in our group talk about various challenges they encounter. It’s helpful to know that others face common challenges in different settings. Finally, the one idea I found most helpful was finding your point of conviction as a means of overcoming a feeling of lack of authenticity. I think at the core of our profession is the idea that we are here to help people, in whatever practice area that might be. I think that can get lost in the many stress points of private practice. Holding onto the conviction that engaging in business development as a means of offering to help people is an appealing way of looking at it. Overall, the program was very helpful. As a quality and development manager for a school group that runs two private schools, I’ve observed that I tend to micromanage the heads of department and their staff when I am initiating and following up on projects they’re doing. If I kept doing this, it would be fatal for the for both me and the organization. The Reach method became a powerful tool for me to diagnose what roadblocks stood in the way of me making the change in approach. A fine-tuned course that gets you right to work in a clear and concrete way. When completing the steps in the module, I found myself on reflecting and creating solutions to the challenge I was facing, without really realizing it until the end of the module. It truly created an “aha-feeling.” For me, the Reach method got me to do big changes with small but powerful tweaks.
