NEWS Watch Again Live Streamed Music Events https://www.qub.ac.uk/schools/ael/events/WatchAgainLiveStreamedEvents/ Call for Participants My name is Georgios Varoutsos and I am a 3rd year PhD student in Sonic Arts part of the Sonic Arts Research Centre at Queen’s University Belfast. I am currently looking for participants on my project titled “Share Your NI Covid-19 Lockdown Story”. I want to hear the voices and stories of people living across Northern Ireland during the pandemic. This is an opportunity to share your personal viewpoints and experiences over the past few years. Your voice will be used in an artistic audio project that aims to capture the thoughts, feelings and sounds of COVID-19. This project is about you and having your voice heard. I am particularly interested in hearing observations of your everyday soundscape during the pandemic. For more information please send an e-mail to: [email protected] NERC Funder Liaison Group’s (FLG) I wish to draw your attention to the NERC Funder Liaison Group’s (FLG) plan to target strategic NERC awards by submitting ideas to NERC for future highlight topics calls. Strategic research is not subject to demand management.

Highlight topic calls are annual strategic funding opportunities, requesting proposals for large-size grants to address one of a defined list of strategic topics. They provide funding of up to £4 million over 4 years duration. NERC run a call eliciting ideas from the NERC research community to develop Highlight Topics. The NERC Scientific Committee consider these ideas, and their current strategic priorities, to recommend which highlight topics NERC should pursue.

Submitting ideas for future Highlight Topics Queen’s will enhance the profile of QUB and researchers will be prepared for, and competitive with submissions to these calls, as the topic will align strongly with their own research area. Ideas can be developed by an individual or group within the research community. The NERC Funder Liaison Group invites researchers across the University to generate Ideas with a goal to submit one or more highlight topic Ideas to NERC to shape their strategic research plans. Collaboration is key to these submissions and Research Development will facilitate any meetings with internal and external partners to develop topic Ideas. If you have an idea for a highlight topic, please email Evelyn Keaveney or Susannah Gray by 4 March 2022, with a short summary (max 500 words) of your proposed highlight topic. They will then work with you to support the idea development, and facilitate highlight topic idea workshops where appropriate. NERC Guidance on developing and submitting Ideas for strategic research highlight topics can be found here: NERC Highlight Topic guidance. A Highlight Topic Idea Workshop will also take place in early April 2022 in order to discuss these Ideas with the Queen’s NERC community, and to develop Ideas that will be submitted to NERC. NERC Guidance on developing and submitting Ideas for strategic research highlight topics can be found here: NERC Highlight Topic guidance. Additional information is in the attached document. Please contact us for further information and find general guidance on our internal NERC website. Dr Evelyn Keaveney MRSB Research Development Officer – Medicine, Health and Life Sciences Research & Innovation Conference Fund If you haven’t already done so, I would be grateful if you could circulate the below information on our new ‘Research & Innovation Conference Fund’ amongst academic and research staff in your schools and research centres. This fund has been launched as part of the R&I strategic priority in Strategy 2030, and it replaces the ‘Academic Staff Conference Fund’. The criteria and application process for the new Fund have been revised to ensure that we endeavour to support all applications with the potential to enhance the academic reputation and reach of the University. Please note the following points in particular:  The Fund is now open to all academic and research staff, including postdocs  The Fund will now support a broader range of activities, so long as they demonstrate alignment with the purpose of the Fund  The Fund is intended to enable activities that would not otherwise be possible due to a lack of funds; however, applications must affirm that they do not have access to alternative funds that could be used for the purposes of their attendance at the conference  Eligible costs include travel, accommodation, fees and subsistence only and there is no upper limit to funding per application; however, applications must provide evidence in the form of a quotation from the University’s approved travel provider Research and Innovation Conference Fund

We are pleased to announce the launch of a new Research & Innovation Conference Fund as part of the Research & Innovation Strategic Priority of Strategy 2030. The Fund will cover eligible costs to enable eligible academic or research staff to attend conferences where they have been invited to participate in an activity that could improve the quality of their research portfolio; enhance the academic reputation of the University; and initiate or develop partnerships that enable wider reach and profile for their work. To apply for the Fund, applicants must satisfy all of the following criteria:  Currently employed as a member of academic or research staff at Queen’s, including fixed-term postdoctoral staff whose contract does not expire before the date of the conference.  Invited to present or showcase their own research at an academic conference through an activity of significant profile (e.g. presenting a paper, leading or participating in a seminar/workshop/panel etc.).  Do not currently have access to any alternative funds that could reasonably cover the cost of their attendance at the conference (e.g. their own funding, their PI’s grant, start- up funds, or other internal enabling funds). Full details on the new Fund, including eligibility criteria, eligible costs, and the application process, are available here. Applicants are strongly encouraged to read this information carefully before applying and, if in any doubt as to their eligibility or the application process, to contact Research Policy Office at [email protected].
