Concept of Ratio and Proportion It is a well-known fact that math is in every form of art in one way or another. This is also the case in things as simple as creating a cartoon character. The ratio between the size of body parts in a cartoon versus an actual human is one of the most noticeable things cartoons. Cartoons are often drawn with completely different proportions to add a style and humour. Usually in cartoons the proportions are decided based on the personality of the character. For example, the bully guy has a combative nature, therefore has a small head but his chest is prominent. A child usually has a head larger than the rest of the body measurements. In the examples shown you can see the difference between human proportions and cartoon proportions. By Aditi Muthya 3

Concepts of Geometry in Warli Art Warli is a style of tribal art belonging to the state of Maharashtra, India. Warli art uses a set of basic geometrical shapes – circles, triangles, squares, and lines which came from the observation of nature. The concept of congruent triangles is used to create figures in this art form. Two triangles are congruent if their size and shape is same, i.e., if one triangle overlaps the other triangle completely. AB = DE BC=EF CA=FD /_ A = /_D /_B = /_E /_C = /_F Similar triangles, concentric circles and line segments are employed in this art form to exhibit nature, human figures, animals, and everyday activities.
