STYLE The up and up Miaou is having a serious moment Lovers of a killer co-ord, here’s the reason everyone wants to squeeze into a corset WORDS: SASKIA QUIRKE Dress PHOTOGRAPHY: ZORA SICHER; ANIS BELARBI; STEPHEN JAFFE. ALL COURTESY OF MIAOU £216.73 It’s safe to stay Miaou has had a pretty stratospheric rise to fame. Bursting on to the scene in 2016, founder Alexia Elkaim created a fresh aesthetic that stood out from the crowd thanks to a combination of playful prints and sexy silhouettes. Fast-forward to September 2022 and the cult label celebrated its first catwalk show in Paris (Miaou is French for Meow, after all), cementing its spot as the brand we’d most like to nosedive into right now. Its success has been sped along by a roll call of celebrity fans longer than the Met Gala’s invite list – Billie Eilish, Kim Kardashian, Dua Lipa, Barbie Ferreira, Hailey Bieber and Kendall Jenner. Miaou even made the cut on Euphoria, with Maddy showcasing the Azul Ginger dress in season two. Then came the collaboration with curve model and fashion goddess Paloma Elsesser in 2022. Seeing curvy bodies poured into these sensual designs sparked joy for women everywhere – even more exciting are plans to extend the size range. After initially dabbling in denim, it was the curve-enhancing corsets that really put Miaou on the map. Is it too much of a stretch to say they’re the reason ribbing is back in fashion on the catwalk (see page 106)? We might look to the big designers for inspo, but who are they looking at? If it’s emerging brands that are making waves in the industry, Miaou just had a tsunami of a year. Trousers £208.50 Corset £200.38 44 Cosmopolitan
