F irst-time buyers Emmie and James Sutter had been looking for a renovation project locally that would fit their budget for 18 months. Eventually they found a four-bedroom Edwardian property that they could make their own. HOME NOTES WHAT LED YOU TO THIS PROPERTY? WHO LIVES HERE? ‘Both James and I are drawn to period properties for their proportions and character, so we had focused our search Emmie Vincent Sutter, an around our local area. After 50 viewings and several rejected inwteitrhiohredrehsuigsnbearn, dlivJeasmheesre offers we realised the market had boomed beyond our reach, Sutatnedr, wthheoirwfoourkr-syienafir-noaldnce, so we broadened our search to other parts of Newcastle. Our patience was finally rewarded when we found this Cockerpoo, Charlie. Edwardian property. We had the whole house rewired, a new boiler and radiators installed, and upstairs the small bathroom and separate toilet were combined into one. en slowly and methodically we worked through every room, stripping each one back to its bare bones before replastering and decorating, reinstating period features and fitting new flooring.’ WHAT CHALLENGES DID YOU FACE? ‘As an interior designer, I was confident in my design choices and I felt I had a good overview of the renovation. However, neither of us had anticipated how messy and chaotic a live-in renovation would be. T he London terraced house that Charlotte and Charles bought in 2019 was certainly ripe for a radical renovation. But the project became even bigger than they had ever imaged once the builders had surveyed the property… HOW DID YOU FIND THIS HOUSE? ‘We had been living with my parents while we saved up to buy our own property and spent two years looking around London before we just happened to find something we liked on the same road.
