DUNES INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL Volume 4, Issue 4 ACADEMIC SESSION 2019-2020 22– 26 September 2019 SNEAK PEEK Reminder Glimpse of this week  Encourage your ward to participate in MaRRs International spell bee competition.  Half yearly Revision Worksheet has been uploaded in the portal .  Payment of photograph should send to the re- spective class teacher on or before 10th Octo- ber 2019.  Encourage your ward to use handkerchief in school . Street Play Street play is a form of theatrical performance and presented outdoor public spaces without a specific paying audience. These spaces can be anywhere, including shopping centers, car parks, recreational reserves, college or university cam- pus and street corners. They are especially seen in outdoor spaces where there are large numbers of peo- ple. In Dunes International School grade 11 children presented a street play about the awareness about pollution for grade 1 and 2 children. 1

“Travel makes one modest. You see what a tiny place you occupy in this country.” World Tourism Day is celebrated on the 27th of September to raise aware- ness on the role of tourism within the international community and to demonstrate how it affects social, cultural, political and economic val- ues worldwide. The World Tourism Day celebration was started by the Unit- ed Nations World Tourism Organization in the year 1980 which is celebrat- ed every year at 27th September. This particular day was selected as at this day the laws of the UNWTO came into force in the year 1970 which is con- sidered as the big landmark for the global tourism as it aims to aware to people about the significant role of the tourism inside the international community as well as to exhibit how the social, economic, cultural, political values are affected by it globally. World Tourism Day was celebrated in Dunes to create awareness among students about the importance of Tourism and to give the feeling of travel- ing to different countries each classes represented a country. The students were dressed in Traditional attires of different countries they were repre- senting and also spoke about the different aspects of each country. It was a wonderful experience for students in Dunes to experience and explore the feel of different countries and know more about them. 2

Saudi Arabia Pavilion “There are no foreign lands. It is the traveler only who is foreigner.” Robert Louis “Tourism carries a tremendous potential that must be acknowledged as essential for the future of world heritage. But without proper management, we can easily get out of control.” Saudi Arabia is a land of the birth of Islam. In Saudi Arabia pavilion, the most Holiest Mosques were presented, students from Grade 1 were shown how Mus- lims doing Tawaf around Kaba. The culture of Saudi Arabia presented, traditional food, dress, historical places and festivals were presented effectively. The beauty of nature will leave you speechless once you start travelling, but it will make you a story teller once you finish travelling. Yes’ Travelling is fun... And this time it is the journey to Sri Lanka. The students of Grade 1 A represented the island country of Sri Lanka. The students dressed in various tra- ditional attires of Sri Lanka and spoke about the different geographical features, food, Dance forms, Dresses, etc. of Sri Lanka. They enjoyed representing Sri Lanka and also learning about the various facts about Sri Lanka. 6

Understanding and remembering the Hindi letters. Sequence is more im- portant for developing listening, speaking and reading skills. Through guess and write activity students were asked to read the sequence of letter carefully and guess which letter is missing. This activity encourages them to edit their work. Students were able to identify the missing letters. They were able to understand and recollect the sequence of “Hindi Letter” 9

Science “Knowledge is a treasure, but practice is the key to it.” A quiz can function throughout a course as an informative feedback device allowing both the instructor and the students to see where they are excel- ling or need more focus. In order to effectively create exams and quizzes, it is important to establish and understand the learning objectives that are being measured. To engage and enlighten the students, an Inter-class Quiz Competition on the topic” The World of Plants” was organized for class 1. It is very interactive way and the teams participated with great enthusi- asm . 11

Moral-science A man with good habits plays an important role in the devel- opment of the society. He is an asset to the society at large. It is important to understand that if you once allow a bad habit to grow, it becomes a part of our nature. A partic- ular habit is, and can be, acquired acting always in a particu- lar way. Students were given different sentences to read and they have to identify what are good habits and bad hab- its. They were given green and red stars . Students stuck green stars on good habits and red stars on bad habits. They enjoyed this activity and they were able to understand the importance of good habits. 12

Guided Reading is an instructional ap- proach that involves a teacher working with a small group of readers. During the lesson the students were provided with a text they can read with support to coach them as they use problem solving strategies to read the text. The outcome of the guided reading was that many of the students were able to read the text independently. 13

Revision activity was planned for grade 1 students on the topic ‘tens and ones’ so that they learn the place values better. Students were given a sheet of paper and were told to represent any number in form of ones and tens blocks. Students learnt the concept of place value through this activity. They decorated the sheet later by colouring the blocks. 14

Topic Wudu (Ablution) Able to perform wudu steps in order. Abu Hurairah (R.A) reported that I heard, the Messenger of Allah ‫ﷺ‬said, “The adornment of the Believer (in Jannah) will reach the place where the water of Wudu reaches (his body).” The students of Grade 1 enthusiastically par- ticipated in the activity conducted in the class. They pointed out the body parts, to be washed in wudu. They mentioned the num- ber of washing for all parts, to be clean in Wudu. 15

Playing the tambourine requires skill and atten- tion. Keeping the beat while playing is very im- portant and requires a lot of concentration. Stu- dents learn to play the tambourine while trying to keep beat, which keeps the mind alert and fresh. Learning musical instruments help in keeping a balance between studies and school work. Keeping rhythm is very important for staying calm. Students learnt to play shakers with rhythm which helps with concentration. They learn solo as well as how to play in groups with others. 16

“In crafting there are no mistakes but unique designs.” The students of Grade 1 were engaged in different craft activities for the World Tourism Day. They learned to make unique craft items representing the country they chose. 17
