World Heart Day is a reminder to each one of us about this life sustaining organ and Marking this day globally aims to increase public awareness and promote preventive measures to reduce the global incidence of cardiovascular disease (heart disease and stroke). To achieve this, Students must be educated and be aware of how they can lead a heart healthy lifestyle. Dunes Interna- tional School marked this day with numer- ous activities; of which CPR session collabo- rated by Ahalia hospital impinged the stu- dents about the measurements one should take in case of any heart related emergen- cies. Replica of huge heart displayed in the reception area attracted everyone’s atten- tion, where the students stapled their mes- sages of the day. The morning assembly re- splendently showed the importance of heart healthy lifestyle. The students, staff and par- ents pledged to live a precautious life and avoid any admonitory actions that could prove a threat to our heart. 2

If students, in their early age, learn to make their own solar devices and use them, not only they will likely to be future users of the solar energy but they will also be promoting its usage in their own generations and become Student Solar Ambassadors. Keeping this in mind, as a part of IIT Bombay’s Diamond Jubilee Cele- bration- Student Solar Ambassadors Workshop is be- ing organized on the 150th Birth Anniversary of Ma- hatma Gandhi, 2nd October 2019. In this unique one-day training program 4,00000 stu- dents from different schools across the world united together learnt to assemble their own solar study lamps designed to help them to fulfill their study light needs. Dunes International School also joined this Historical Event by enrolling 100 students ranging the age group from 11 to 16. All the Solar Student Ambassadors assembled the So- lar Study Lamps guided by the teachers those who have taken special training in this program. Through this workshop, scientific curiosity of young minds will be piqued towards clean technologies for the future, by making them Student Solar Ambassa- dors. At the end of the event, students were allowed to take their solar study lamp and 2.5 W solar panel to home made by themselves. 3

The most coveted Awards evening for the teaching fraternity in UAE , the 6th Big Idea Amazing Teacher Award 2019 was held at Heriot Watt University, Dubai on Friday 27th September 2019. Based on the theme of “celebrating the nobility of the teaching profes- sion”, the Awards aimed to pay tribute to the teaching fraternity in UAE. Principals, Teachers and counselors across UAE have been honored and felicitated through this initiative. The initiative engaged students and parents from across 200 schools in UAE brought together teachers from Indian schools, International schools and local schools offering CBSE curriculum, ICSE, American, Australian curriculum, besides other curriculums; together for an emotionally charged evening where tears of joy re-confirm what it meant to the Teachers to be recognized for their untiring effort. Dunes International School proudly announce that, our honorable Principal , Paramjit Ahluwalia along with 42 teachers of our school has been honored and felicitated by Big Idea UAE in the 6th Edition of Amaz- ing Teacher Award Ceremony. Roots and Shoots encourages children to implement practical positive change for people, animals and the environment by providing them with free resources and a place to share their success stories with the world. Jane Goodall’s Roots & Shoots recently announced their new twinning program between schools in the UAE and schools in the United Kingdom. Through the program students will have the opportuni- ty to learn about another group’s homeland, environ- ment, wildlife, culture, religion and languages. They will be able to use technology such as email and video conferencing to give the students a personalized look at partner school and its students and activities. The perspectives they gain from another culture will en- courage students to express themselves clearly. As part of twinning program, Ms. Tara Golshan, Execu- tive Educational Director of Roots and Shoots, UK visit- ed Dunes International School on Tuesday 1st October 2019. She empowered our students to use their voice and actions to make compassionate decisions, influenc- ing and leading change in their communities and Chal- lenge of making the world a better place for people, other animals and the environment we share. No matter the issue, being a part of Environment means choosing to be a change-maker and making the differ- ence we want to make. 5

Students of Grade 1 A spoke about World Heart Day. They spoke about · When it is cele- brated. · Importance of the day. · Diseases associated with heart. · Agencies involved and activities organized · Risk Factors · Promise for the future. The students were confident and were able to con- vey the message properly to oth- ers students of the same grade. They also sang a group song on ‘I Can Feel With My Heart’ Theme: World Heart Day Objective: To create awareness on the importance of Cardio vas- cular diseases and risk factors. Learning Outcome: To under- stand the risk factors and take preventive measures. Explanation by the teacher: The teacher spoke to the students about the thought for the day and it was linked to the World Heart Day concept so that the students could relate the value of patience to heart as a feeling. The teacher also explained the importance of World Heart Day and how to keep the heart healthy. Distribution of Certifi- 10

Students of Grade 1 B presented a short assembly on Honesty. The students enacted a story with the moral ‘Honesty is the best policy.’. Theme: Honesty Objective: To make children un- derstand the importance of be- ing honest. Learning Outcome: To under- stand the importance of being honest and be honest in life. Explanation by the teacher: The teacher spoke to the students about the thought for the day and it was linked to the story en- acted by the students. 11

Keeping rhythm in music is like walking with coordina- tion. Students learn how to keep beat with shakers, cabassa and tambourine. This is a fun routine where children learn different instruments as well, which increases their learn- ing capabilities. 12

Students practiced the Trance tribal steps with music. 13

“Continuous improvement is better than delayed perfection.” Students were actively engaged in class revision on the topic- Verbs. They learned to identify helping verbs from daily life actions. They chose helping verbs for the sentences given from the chits given to them. They were able to express their learning and understand- ing through speaking. 14

Every Hindi vowel has its own different signs. Letter plays an important role in Hindi learn- ing. In this activity students drew different types of pictures and did matching according to the given letters and coloured it . This activ- ity helped them to gain self confidence, en- riched their vocabulary and presentation skill. 15

Students learn faster and better through ‘Learning by playing’ The teacher put footprints on the ground for students to stand up and read the words from the board. Whenever the student reads the word correctly, he/she walks a step to read another word In this activity students learned how to spell and read by confidently. 16

One of the goals of science educa- tion in the classroom is to help stu- dents recognize how scientific explo- ration can contribute to the wellbe- ing of humanity and natural world. Students of Grade 1 drew their fa- vourite animal and coloured it. They also identified the habitat of their favourite animal. 17

A quiz was conducted for grade 1 students as a part of revision. Students were divided into groups and were given various ques- tions to solve. Quiz encourages team work. It gives them an opportunity to hone their teamwork skills and promotes critical thinking. Students partici- pated with enthusi- asm. it was fun , learning through game and revising the topics. 18

Students are allotted an individual ac- tivity. They are asked to identify the displayed map and locate the capital city. Name the neighboring countries and water bodies on it. They will express their feelings about living in the country of UAE. 19

Receiving respect from others is im- portant because it helps us to feel safe and to express ourselves. The best way to teach respect is to show respect.  When a child experiences respect, they know what it feels like and begins to understand how important it . Through this activity students were able to write the name of people they show respect on a hand print. Students were able to understand the importance of respect in their life. 20
