DUNES INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL Volume 6, Issue 2 ACADEMIC SESSION 2019-2020 10th to 14th November 2019 SNEAK PEEK Glimpse of this week CHILDREN’S DAY Children's Day is celebrated across India to increase awareness of the rights, care and education of children. It is celebrated on 14 November every year as a tribute to India's First Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru. Fondly known as Chacha Nehru among children, he advocated for children to have fulfilled education. During this occa- sion Teachers conducted a special assembly with various programmes. During assembly Atiksh Acharya of grade 2B is awarded with yellow belt which he achieved during SEP activity Karate training. As part on Children’s day school is organising Jamboree 2, A Grand Carnival, students of grade 2 witnessed the carnival parade practiced by senior grade students. Grade 2 students performed a flash mob and enjoyed music and movement to make this day a memorable one. Reminder: Science weekly test will be conducted on 17-11-19. PT 2 portion and schedule is uploaded on portal. Take care of your child’s health, if he/she is not well do not send to school. 1

ENGLISH Completing the story The purpose of a story is to enrich student’s experience. A story is a form of transportation. It lifts one person from where they are reading and carries them to another time and another place. Grade 2 Students wrote a story in their own words to showcase their experience in story writing in their own creative way keeping in mind the elements of a story writing. 5
MATHEMATICS Word problems take math understanding to the next level. They require children to use their reading and comprehension skills while also applying everything they’ve learned in math class . Students created a word problem in multiplication. They also represented the word problem in the form of draw- ings also. This activity developed the critical thinking and problem solving skills in the students 6
EVS A community helper is a person who performs some job that helps improve the overall well-being of the community. Community helpers are very important; they keep the community safe and healthy, make life better for the people in the community, and help the community function more efficiently. It was an awesome experience for students of grade 2 to present and enact their favorite community help- er. Students enacted as policeman, doctor, police- man etc. It was a wonderful experience for them, and they learnt the duties of each professions. 7
HINDI As a basis for all communication, language in the education- al set-up is of vital importance in putting across developmen- tal thoughts, information and data. ... A common language not only helps develop one's linguistic skills, but also expands the cognitive (thinking) abilities of an individual. As a part of learning chandra bindu words grade 2 children colour the pic- ture of a camel which is called in Hindi and discussed com- mon features of it . This kind of activity will help the children to recall the words as well as matra In Hindi . 8
MORAL SCIENCE Good manners help us to develop good habits which im- prove the physical, mental, spiritual and social well-being (thus overall development of the society) of person. A well behaving man, having all the good manners, is becomes the important citizen in the society as he never hurts the feelings of others. During this activity children list out good manners that they should follow in their life. 9
ARABIC A healthy diet is a diet that helps to maintain or improve overall health. Healthy eating means eating a variety of foods that give you the nutrients you need to maintain your health, feel good, and have energy. During this activity children brought healthy food, they learned the names of the food in Arabic and shared with their classmates 10
MUSIC Singing comes from within and keeps one happy and joyful. Students learn a new song with singing techniques and breath control. They focus on the pitch and tone and also learn the lyrics of the song. Morning assemblies are a very important part in a student’s life. Singing songs to start the day has a positive effect on one’s life. Here, students learn a new assembly song with vigour and enthusiasm. 11
ART Creativity is simply connecting new dots in new ways. Water colour is a painting method in which the paints are made of pigments suspended in a water based solutions. We in Dunes international school believe that art encompasses values, ideas and helps enlighten one with what the imagination is capable of without minimizing thought and the power of creation. The students created magical expressions with their imagination and aesthetic exploration using water colours. 12
Year of Tolerance BIRTHDAY CELEBRANTS His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Na- 2A-Krishna Sri Tumpudi 2A-Satvik Kanti hyan, President of the UAE, has proclaimed the year 2019 to be the \"The Year of Toler- ance\" in the UAE, highlighting the UAE as a global capital for tolerance, and emphasiz- ing tolerance as a universal concept aimed at entrenching the values of tolerance, dia- logue, coexistence and openness to differ- ent cultures. The Ghaf tree was chosen as a symbol of the Year of Tolerance because of the great significance that the tree bears as an indigenous tree. It is associated with pop- ular and environmental heritage.
