HEALTH AWARENESS 2
Healthy Screen Time With screens virtually everywhere, controlling a child's screen time can be chal- lenging. They can't imagine a world without televisions, smartphones, tablets, and the internet. Whereas, some screen time can be educational for children as well as support their social development; excessive screen time can overstimu- late and distract the brain. While digital devices can provide endless hours of en- tertainment and they can offer educational content, unlimited screen time can be harmful. If we teach a child to use television or tablets as a method to calm or rest, we are teaching them that the only way to calm their bodies is to overstimu- late their brains. Their brains get used to this type of over stimulation and, over time, the children can get less and less interested in experiences that are not as stimulating. Thus it is important to teach children to manage screen time as it is associated with many behavioural issues. A workshop was conducted by the school counsellor and children were intro- duced with the screen rules to develop self-regulation. 3

Easier Arm Recovery & Injury Prevention Lie in a flat position on your front and try recovering your arms over the ground like you are swimming. Even if you are very flexible in the shoulder it's very hard to do this. You're going to struggle to clear the water's surface when you're swim- ming. This awkward action puts stress on your rotator cuff muscles as you perform it. The hand has to lead the elbow to get round - this swinging path has momentum and when you enter the water at the front of the stroke your hand will want to cross the center line. Cross-overs put even greater stress on your shoulder and are a leading cause of shoulder injury. 18
