Parachute games encourage cooper- ative play and reinforce turn-taking and sharing. While most gross motor activities for young children develop muscles in the lower body more than the upper torso, parachutes strengthen primarily shoulder, arm and hand muscles. When children work together to make the parachute billow, they also refine perceptual motor skills and develop a sense of rhythm. Grade 1 students enjoyed the activity a lot with their friends. 4

Not wider than that, not way out to the side; not narrow, not above the head. Just in line with the shoulder. This puts the hand in a po- sition that allows you to just flex the wrist a bit, then the elbow, and drop right into a good catch position. No moving the hand left or right, just swinging it down. 13
