Jane Goodall’s Roots & Shoots recently an- nounced their new twinning program be- tween schools in the UAE and schools in the United Kingdom. Through the program stu- dents will have the opportunity to learn about another group’s homeland, environment, wildlife, culture, religion and languages. As part of twinning program, Ms. Tara Gol- shan, Executive Educational Director of Roots and Shoots, UK visited Dunes Interna- tional School on Tuesday 1st October 2019. She empowered our students to use their voice and actions to make compassionate de- cisions, influencing and leading change in their communities and take challenge of mak- ing the world a better place for people, ani- mals and the environment we share. 2
SOLAR LAMP If students, in their early age learn to make their own solar devices and use them, not only they will likely to be future users of the solar energy, but they will also be promoting its usage in their own generations and become Student Solar Ambassadors. Keeping this in mind , as a part of IIT Bombay’s Diamond Jubilee Celebration– Student Solar Ambassadors workshop was been organized on 150th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, 2nd October 2019. Dunes International School also joined this Historical Event by enrolling 100 students ranging the age group from 11 to 16. Through this workshop, scientific curiosity of young minds will be piqued towards clean technolo- gies for the future, by making them Student Solar Ambassadors. At the end of the event, students were allowed to take their solar study lamp and 2.5W solar panel to home made by themselves. Gandhi Sahitya Vedi 2nd October 2019 International Day of Non– violence, observed in a grand scale all over the world as it coincided the 150th Birth Anniversary of Gandhi Sahitya Vedi, Abu Dhabi has taken keen initiative to celebrate the 150th birth anniversary of Father of our Nation by organizing a special program on this day at Indian Social Center, Abu Dhabi. Dunes International School was delighted to be the part of the special event by the participation of ten students from our school. 3
Assembly “150 years of Mahatma ,the Father of the Nation”. To mark this occasion, Students of grade 2 D presented assembly on values taught by Ghandhiji. Values of honesty and cleanliness were presented in the form of short skits. The students also highlighted nonviolence as another important value of Ghandiji. The students also spoke about honesty, nonviolence and cleanliness. The need to follow these values were also highlighted. 4

ENGLISH ROLE PLAY Incorporating role-play into the classroom adds variety, a change of pace and opportunities for a lot of language production and also a lot of fun! It can be an integral part of the class and not a 'one- off' event. Role-play is any speaking activity when you either put yourself into somebody else's shoes, or when you stay in your own shoes but put yourself into an imaginary situation! It's fun and motivating Quieter students get the chance to express themselves in a more forthright way The world of the classroom is broadened to include the outside world - thus offering a much wider range of language opportunities 7
MATH The concept of addition with regrouping was revised by using number cards. Each group were given two number cards and students had to add the two numbers and write the an- swer. Then the students had to explain to other group about their answer. This activity helped the students to understand the concept of regrouping clearly. 8
Students learn faster and better through ‘Learning by playing’ To give opportunity to students to be with groups to enhance collaborative learning each group had a balloon in which some words had to be arranged and the groups rearranged the words to form correct sentences. Students cooperatively framed the sentences which created competitive 9
A concept map is a type of graphic organizer used to help students organize and represent knowledge of a subject. Concept maps begin with a main idea (or concept) and then branch out to show how that main idea can be broken down into specific topics. It is also called mind mapping. Grade 2 students were asked to choose any one of their favorite topic and create a concept map with maximum information about the topic which can be with or without illustration. Students learnt one strategy to assess their knowledge using this strategy. This was a good learning experience for them. 10
Revision involves making improvements to all aspects of a lesson , It is sometimes involves making ma- jor changes as well as help to recall the important points of a particular lesson . Revision might better be called rewriting. Spend plenty of time revising your writing. While all stages of the writing process are important, revising plays an especially important role. Here children were solved few important facts of singular –plural and gender by themselves. It will help to recall the main points and increase the vocabulary as well . 11
MORAL SCIENCE Kindness is defined as the quality of being friendly, generous, and considerate. Affection, gentleness, warmth, concern, and care are words that are associated with kindness. During this activity grade 2 students learned the importance of kindness and they created list of words that indicate kind gestures. 12
MORAL EDUCATION Artefacts are an object made by a human being, typically one of cultural or historical interest. It Include stone tools, pottery vessels, metal objects such as weapons, and items of personal adornment such as buttons, jewelry and clothing. ... Natural objects, such as fire cracked rocks from a hearth or plant material used for food. Artefacts of UAE is included in the moral education curriculum. Hence students of grade 2 explored the different artefacts of UAE and selected to illustrate four artefacts of their choice in A5 size paper. They learnt the name of these artefacts1i3n Arabic language.
Tribal dance is not a cultural, in fact one common dance that is rooted in tribal dance is belly dancing. Differ- ent types of tribal dance include classical Indian dancing, ceremonial dancing, folk dancing, fancy dancing, and sacred dancing. A ceremonial tribal dance is extremely popular. 14
Keeping rhythm in music is like walking with coordination. Students learn how to keep beat with shakers, cabassa and tambourine. This is a fun routine where children learn different instruments as well, which increases their learning capabilities. Morning assemblies are a very important part in a student’s life. Singing songs to start the day has a positive effect on one’s life. Here, students learn a new assembly song with vigor and enthusiasm. 15
Library plays a very healthy role throughout a student’s life. Library provides students a very healthy envi- ronment for learning as well as making notes or completing an assignment. Library provides a very calm and disciplined atmosphere which helps students to maintain a good concen- tration on their learning. Students of grade 2 were provided with access to a rich book for guided reading- promoting greater amount of reading. Increased reading frequency with more diverse experience among students will help them to attain a greater level of reading achievement. 16
SWIMMING Floating In Freestyle Swimming Increase competency in freestyle .It is very important when you flip to keep the front hand in a for- ward position in order to use it for pushing water with while returning the body and head to the wa- ter. The purpose of this swimming workout is to combine swimming freestyle with long breathing cy- cles. The immediate goal of developing a faster flutter kick is as basic as wanting to go faster. A strong kick gives you killer body position in the water. A strong kick launches you into your arm pull. A strong kick keeps your stroke together. 17
FREE TIME ACTIVITY Boggle is a Hasbro word game that requires 16 letter cubes, the cube grid with dome, and a 3-minute sand tim- er, all of which should be included with your game. Students will reinforce basic spelling skills, use critical thinking skills to create short words. During recess time students of grade to find time to create new words from the board displayed in the corridor. Students formed plural words and learned many short words .
